A Perfect Sail to San Juan, Puerto Rico - Ep. 56 RAN Sailing
Let's be friends on Facebook!
We set sail north west towards Puerto Rico and the capital San Juan. But before doing that we had time for another visit at the beautiful Flamenco beach in Culebra. The sail to San Juan was perfect despite the calm morning and we loved to sail along the skyline. In San Juan we rented a car to go around town and do some errands and from what we've seen so far we like this city A LOT!
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

San Juan- Puerto Rico (MSC Seaside)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
San Juan is the capital and most populous municipality in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States. As of the 2010 census, it is the 46th-largest city under the jurisdiction of the United States, with a population of 395,326. San Juan was founded by Spanish colonists in 1521, who called it Ciudad de Puerto Rico (Rich Port City). Puerto Rico's capital is the third oldest European-established capital city in the Americas, after Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, founded in 1496 and Panama City, in Panama, founded in 1519. Several historical buildings are located in San Juan; among the most notable are the city's former defensive forts, Fort San Felipe del Morro and Fort San Cristóbal, and La Fortaleza, the oldest executive mansion in continuous use in the Americas.
Today, San Juan is Puerto Rico's most important seaport and is the island's manufacturing,[citation needed] financial, cultural, and tourism center. The population of the Metropolitan Statistical Area, including San Juan and the municipalities of Bayamón, Guaynabo, Cataño, Canóvanas, Caguas, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Carolina and Trujillo Alto, is about 2.6 million inhabitants; thus, about 80% of the population of Puerto Rico now lives and works in this area. San Juan is also a principal city of the San Juan-Caguas-Fajardo Combined Statistical Area. The city has been the host of events within the sports community, including the 1979 Pan American Games; 1966 Central American and Caribbean Games; events of the 2006, 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classics; the Caribbean Series and the Special Olympics and MLB San Juan Series in 2010.

WE Sail to Puerto Rico
Join the adventure of WE, as we welcome our family aboard in Puerto Rico. We sail the short 22 nautical miles from St. Thomas to Culebra and check in with immigration. From here we make our way to mainland and stock up and pick up the family for a 2 week adventure around the islands of Puerto Rico.
Just before we pick up everyone we witness a boating accident that luckily was not worse from what it sounded like. We quickly ran to the scene of the accident to asses the situation. With nothing we really could do, we left the rest up to SeaTow and the Coast Guard.
We later set sail to the largest southern island of Vieques. Visit the bio (because I'm not going to spell the whole word) bay and visit the small village to kick it all off. From here we sail to the small but incredible island of Culabrita. Here we practically have the place all to ourselves, anchored off in the turquoise bay, snorkel, hike to the old abandoned lighthouse, and soak in the natural baths that churn sea bubbles from the coastal break.
Thanks for watching the adventures of WE and be sure to join us next time, when we sail to the sister island, Culebra and then spend a day touring Old San Juan.
Stay till the end to enjoy some fun outtakes:)

MSC Seaside: San Juan, Puerto Rico Arrival & Departure on November 26th, 2018
On November 24th, 2018 the first Seaside Class cruise ship, the MSC Seaside, set sail on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean sailing to commemorate her 1st birthday. She made a visit to San Juan Puerto Rico on Monday November 26th, 2018. She wasn't alone though as the Celebrity Equinox who was directly behind her in Miami was waiting for her when she arrived. Spending the afternoon she arrived to the port later in the day just before the sun set. She then had a late departure scheduled for 1am, but actually departed slightly earlier just after the Equinox.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Miami, FL (11/24/18 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
Day 2: Day at Sea (11/25/18)
Day 3: San Juan, Puerto Rico (11/26/18 from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM)
Day 4: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas (11/27/18 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
Day 5: Philipsburg, St. Maarten (11/28/18 from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM)

Day 7: Nassau, Bahamas (11/30/18 from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM)

Sailaway Missed in San Juan, Puerto Rico - Celebrity Summit 2019 [Ep. 3]
Celebrity Summit 12 Night Lesser Antilles Caribbean Cruise January 29 - February 10, 2019 ||
Tuesday, January 29 - Sailaway Missed
The Celebrity Summit had technical issues that didn’t get resolved until late that evening. The sailaway from San Juan had to be rescheduled to after midnight. It had been a long day and we decided to retire for the night, and thus, missed the sailaway from the port of San Juan.

Arriving at the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico
Full HD video of what you see from a cruise ship as you sail in to the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
While recording the first segment, which lasts 52 seconds, I noticed that I had forgot to attach the external microphone to the camera. So, for the first 52 seconds of the video, recorded with the camera's built-in mic, the audio is crappy with a lot of wind noise. After the :52 mark, I've got the good external mic (with windscreen) attached... and the audio is a lot better.
You get a pretty good view of the walls of El Morro castle during that first 52 second segment. After that, you get a close-up view of the buildings of Old San Juan that line the harbor.
At about the 2:30 mark, I point the camera up a bit so that you can see the beautiful sunrise. This makes it hard to see the buildings, so I tilt the camera back down to the city after about a 30 second look at the sunrise.
I love the crashing waves at the 3:45 mark. U.S. Coast Guard ships (Puerto Rico is a U.S. Territory) are visible starting at 4:00. Note the CVS pharmacy visible in the first floor of the building at 6:15... this is an extremely convenient place to pick up a few supplies when you are on a cruise ship. The cruise ship terminal comes in to view at 6:23
I shot this video using a Canon EOS 70D, from the balcony of the Carnival Glory cruise ship.
Sail San Juan Bay, Promo
This is true real sailing!, under the power of the wind, engine off, to listen the beautiful background sound that nature provides, in San Juan Puerto Rico. Here, the only thing you'll miss, are the sound of little frogs (our coquis), but sometimes Dolphins show up.
San Juan, Puerto Rico Cruise Port Guide: Tips and Overview
Founded in 1521 by Ponce De Leon, San Juan Puerto Rico has two cruise terminals. Our guide focuses on the terminal in Old San Juan.
In addition to being the Capital of Puerto Rico and the oldest city in the US Territory, San Juan is known for its cobblestone streets, 16th century walls and fortresses, colorful architecture, expansive views of the water, and Bacardi Rum, all of which can be reached from the Old San Juan cruise terminal for little or no cost.

Sailing Puerto Rico: Tacos, Boat Jobs & a BIG Sailing Mistake! (Sailing Ruby Rose) Ep 15
Welcome to Episode 15!
This week we're in Culebra and Culebrita, Puerto Rico! We fall in love with this amazing country (may or may not have something to do with all the delicious tacos we feast on!) and spend a night in the wonderfully quiet anchorage in Culebrita.
On our way to the mainland we make a grave tactical error when we trust the weather forecast which states the max wind speed will be 8 knots. Thinking we've got a day of motoring ahead of us, we don't bother lifting the dinghy and instead simply tow it behind us, outboard attached and all.
When we're hit by a squall with 25 knots of wind and lumpy seas, our outboard nuts start to loosen under the strain and Nick has to jump in to try and save the outboard and dinghy!
Thanks as always for watching. Please comment, give a thumbs up and subscribe!
