Sailing Club Vietnam 25th Anniversary
Now the heart and soul of Nha Trang, Sailing Club started as one mans daring gamble. Now, it is celebrating its 25th year and proving that fun and success can go hand in hand.
What were you doing 25 years ago? I was at university in Brisbane, Australia, not really thinking much beyond skating through classes, chasing girls and what we would be getting up to on the weekend.
But it was at that time another young Australian, travelling back home from the UK, decided to make a stopover in Vietnam. There he came across a coffee shop for lease on the beach in Nha Trang. Peter Vidotto was only 26 years old at the time, but he had a vision to turn the place into the city’s only beach-front bar.
Back then, the beach was something of an afterthought. Beach culture was not a part of local life, and most business activity and socialising took place in the city centre, away from the water. So, building something like Sailing Club was seen as an anomaly at best.
After signing the lease Vidotto returned to Australia to sort out his affairs and gather some resources. By his own admission he says his family and friends thought he was mad to to want to set up a beach bar in this far flung place.
One of the first hurdles was getting approval from the local government, and this is how the Sailing Club got its name. “Back in ’93 when I approached the government, bars were sort of a taboo,” Vidotto says. “So we thought, well, it’s a club, a sailing club, and with that you were able to sell alcohol.”
From humble beginnings the business grew to also include additional beach clubs and the Mia resorts. The resort in Cam Ranh was recently sold and the other in Mui Ne rebranded back to Sailing Club, and an additional beach club recently opened on Phu Quoc.
Through it all, Vidotto says maintaining a spirit of enjoyment has been essential to his success. “We had one golden rule, and that was to try to make it fun. That enabled the bar to kick in and everything else just flowed from that.”
And for visitors to Nha Trang, that has made Sailing Club ‘must-go’ destination for the last quarter of a century, and will remain so for many more years to come.

HOW TO SPEND ONE DAY IN NHA TRANG, VIETNAM (K.o.travel Vlogs #9)
Nha Trang, Vietnam, is one of those places that gets mixed reviews. But I actually really like Nha Trang and for those of you who have the time, I argue that it’s most definitely worth taking a chance on.
If you’re not familiar with Nha Trang, it’s located on Vietnam’s south-central coast. It’s a bustling city of roughly 500,000 people set right on a beautiful stretch of beach and fringed by lush green mountains. The city centre is definitely geared toward tourists, meaning it’s full of restaurants, hotels, spas and tourists.
So I had 16 hrs to explore the city before my bus to Hoi Anand this is what I did.
The Trap Huong Tower (also known as the Lotus Tower) is a major landmark along Nha Trang's famous beach.
Po Nagar Cham Towers is probably one of the most touristy things to do in Nha Trang. The towers were built between the 7th and 12th centuries and still function as a worshipping site for Buddhists. It’s a small complex so all you really need is 30 minutes.
Long Son Pagoda is a really cool Buddhist temple located in the heart of Nha Trang. The original temple dates back to 1886. However, it was destroyed by a cyclone and was later relocated to its current location at the base of Trại Thủy Mountain in 1900. From the entrance, you can peek inside the temple, but also make sure to venture up the hill where you’ll find a giant reclining Buddha, a picturesque pagoda, a fascinating cemetery and then finally a giant white Buddha, which is located at the very top.

We visited Nha Trang as part of a Princess cruise from Singapore - Tokyo onboard the Golden Princess. Join me for a morning in Vietnam and an afternoon onboard the Golden Princess!
During this video we tender to shore, jump on a free shuttle to town before exploring the town and the beach. It was SO hot (37 degrees).
We headed back to the ship for lunch, followed by 'what the heck' trivia, a sail away party, dinner, evening swim and a tropical deck party! What a crazy day.

After coming back to HCMC from Phu Quoc, we had our flight on the same day to Nha Trang. Little did we know, that this not-so-famous place would amaze us so much. We loved this place for everything. Watch the full video to know Places to visit in Nha Trang or Things to do in Nha Trang and Where to stay in Nha Trang because we have also given the room tour where we stayed and we can't emphasize enough how much we loved it because it had cooking facility, we had washing machine. They did supply the raw material, you just need to cook yourself. It was a different experience altogether.
