MacDougall of Lorne Coat Of Arms St Conan's Kirk Loch Awe Argyll Scotland
Tour Scotland video of the MacDougall of Lorne Coat Of Arms in St Conan's Kirk on visit to Loch Awe, Argyll. The surname MacDougall was first found in Galloway, Gaelic: Gall-ghaidhealaibh, an area of southwestern Scotland, now part of the Council Area of Dumfries and Galloway, that formerly consisted of the counties of Wigtown, West Galloway, and Kirkcudbright, East Galloway, where they were descended from Dugall eldest son of Somerled, first Lord of the Isles, and his son Duncan who received the lands of Lorn. The Clan was a bitter foe of Robert the Bruce, who made a narrow escape during one battle with the MacDougals only by discarding his cloak. The brooch of this cloak, now known as the Brooch of Lorn, is a treasured possession of the Chief of the Clan. The Clan faced heavy retaliation and was stripped of their lands once Robert the Bruce secured the Scottish throne. The lands were restored to the Clan upon the death of the king, but passed to the Stewarts in 1388 when the last member of the senior branch of MacDougals died without issue.
Other spellings include, MacDougall, MacDowall, MacDowell, MacDugald, MacDill. Some of the MacDougall family moved to Ireland.
John MacDougall, arrived in New York, America, in 1816.
St Conan's Kirk, Taynuilt , Loch Awe, Argyll. 30/04/2016
It is situated on a crag high above the water amid vegetation which includes roses, honeysuckle, and ivy, and is surrounded by large trees. It was established as a chapel of ease by the Campbells of Innis Chonan. St Conan's Tower is 0.5 miles (0.80 km) away. It was designed by the self-made architect Walter Douglas Campbell, and built in 1881-6; with renovation in 1906. The heavy oak beams in the cloister are believed to have come from the (then) recently broken up wooden battleships, HMS Caledonia and HMS Duke of Wellington. An eccentric blend of church styles, from ancient Roman to Norman, it is built of local stone. It consists of a nave and chancel, with the chancel-stalls being canopied. Large, unsmoothed boulders of granite from nearby Ben Cruachan, form the piers which carry the chancel arch, and the transepts make the Sacred Cross. There is also a tower and spire.
Fittings include a small organ. One old window from South Leith Parish Church was re-used at St Conan's.
It is renowned for the fragment of bone that is rumoured to have come from Robert the Bruce.

Macnab of Barachastlain Coat Of Arms St Conan's Kirk Loch Awe Argyll Scotland
Tour Scotland video of the Barachastlain Coat Of Arms in St Conan's Kirk on visit to Loch Awe, Argyll. The surname MacNab was first found in Perthshire, Gaelic: Siorrachd Pheairt, former county in the present day Council Area of Perth and Kinross, located in central Scotland, where they joined with the MacDougalls in opposing Robert the Bruce and consequently lost many of the vast territories they had held. However, the Chief of the MacNabs finally became reconciled to the Bruce, and regained many of his lost lands when King David II came to the throne of Scotland. He also received the official charter for the barony of Bowaine dated 1336. Finlay MacNab, the 4th Chief of the Clan, added considerably to the estates toward the end of the 15th century, but in 1552 another Finlay, the 6th Chief, fell into financial difficulties and mortgaged most of the Clan lands to the Campbell of Glenorchy. The Clan, however, refused to acknowledge the superiority of the Campbells.
Spelling variations of MacNab, include; MacNab, MacNabb, MacKnab, Mac an Aba. Some of the MacNab family moved to Ireland.
Alexander W. Macnab, aged 65, settled in Toronto, Canada, in 1916.
Cyrus MacNab, aged 13, emigrated to the United States from Bridge of Weir, Scotland, in 1907.
Robert Macnab, aged 21, landed in America from Glasgow, in 1906.
Donald Macnab, aged 47, settled in America from Leith, |Edinburgh, in 1905.

From Antarctica to Saint Conan’s Kirk in Loch Awe: RND Diaries #006
I had the opportunity to catch up with a very good friend who was over here in Scotland on vacation. Karen is a marine scientist currently working at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. We decided to visit Saint Conan’s Kirk in Loch Awe, in Argyll for a catch up. Here's how we got on...
Many thanks to Karen for the photographs of her trip to Antarctica and of Hobart, where she is also a keen offshore sailor.
For those interested in such stuff:
- All the parts of the video talking to Karen were filmed with a GoPro 7 Black on a small selfie tripod using the ‘Hypersmooth’ function (no gimbal). Results were very good with all settings on ‘Auto’. I used a ‘Windslayer’ foam housing around the whole camera/case which seemed to cut down the majority of wind noise.
- The ‘B-Roll’ video inside the Kirk showing the roof etc. was filmed on a Crosstour 4K Action Camera, on a Zhiyun Smooth 4 gimbal.
- The additional Kirk photographs were taken in 2005 on my old Canon DSLR.

Ancient St Fillan Chapel by Doune Castle Scotland
Visit us on Facebook Doune Village and Doune Ponds
There are three St,Fillans in Doune one being the church in the main street built in 1875 and the other two are the Chapels of St. Fillan, one is situated within the castle of Doune and the other one sits on the banks of the river Teith.
This Chapel dates back to the 1400's but by 1568 records say that the chapel was lying in ruins and entirely disappeared apart from the east gable wall.
In 1876 the new chapel was erected by John Campbell using the original east gable wall. So I've been told the old gable was going to be pulled down but the builders walked of the job as they experience some ghostly goings ons,???? in the end it was decided to keep the gable wall and to build the new Chapel up against it and 143 years later it still looks beautiful.
The chapel is now a private mausoleum to the present family.
The Kirk of Scotland is greater than Almighty God, apparently....
The arrogant religious strike again. Absolutely stunning wickedness typical of godless religious church people.

SCOTLAND: An eye treat - Linlithgow, Scotland
An eye treat - Linlithgow, Scotland
A small county town, Linlithgow is a royal burgh in West Lothian, Scotland, 45mins drive from Edinburgh. The city centre is well-maintained with the 16th century ancient landmarks.
Linlithgow's patron saint is Saint Michael, a statue of the saint holding the burgh coat of arms stands on the High Street.
The name Linlithgow comes from the Old British lynn llaith cau meaning lake in the damp hollow. We've had a stunning view of the lake with beautiful ducks, pigeons in the loch! The palace on the banks of the lake gives it an amazing look.
Linlithgow is also home to a major computing centre owned by Oracle!
