Budva Travel Guide - Montenegro Charming Experience
Budva Travel Guide - Montenegro Charming Experience
Budva is a coastal tourist resort in Montenegro. It is often called Montenegrin Miami, because it is the most crowded and most popular tourist resort in Montenegro, with beaches and vibrant nightlife. Budva is on the central part of Montenegrin coast, called Budvanska Rivijera. It has developed around a small peninsula, on which the old town is situated. It is by far most visited destination in Montenegro, attracting mostly domestic, Russian, Serbian and other Eastern European tourists with an old town, bars and nightclubs, and beaches mostly consisting of small rocks. It is base for mass tourism, while in its near vicinity there are luxury resorts such as Sveti Stefan and Miločer.
There are as many as 35 beaches in the Budva area, mostly rock and a little sand (8 beaches are marked with blue flags). During the summer in particular, the day and night-life offers opportunities to enjoy theatre plays and performances, music events and entertainment programs.
Many nightclubs use go-go dancers to attract customers, and families might be offended by the open display of almost-naked girls in the street. There is mainly one street, the main promenade, where all the action happens. Budva appears to be undergoing poorly planned, unchecked growth with towering unattractive apartment buildings and hotels being built wherever there is open space - which unfortunately includes building directly on the beach.
Some tourists may find Budva disappointing and cheesy because of the over-crowded beaches filled with chairs, umbrellas and loud music in some places. Prices for food and accommodation are also well above what can be found in less popular resorts. The old town is adjacent to the marina, where the wealthy come to moor their luxury yachts. The old town is small but beautiful, with restaurants and boutiques selling luxury goods at high prices.
If you came to Budva with your own car, use it inside the city only when you have to. Traffic is terribly congested during the summer, and parking spaces around the old town are almost impossible to find, and very expensive when you do. There are many tourist boats that dock in Budva harbor which offer rides to nearby beaches, Sv. Nikola island, or one-day trips to various destinations on Montenegrin coast, but these are also expensive. Unlike other seaside cities, there are no €1 water taxis here.
There is a wide choice of places to eat at in Budva. In old town you will find almost anything: from pizza-places, bakeries to seafood and Chinese restaurants. Across the harbor, at the very coast, there are some premium fresh seafood restaurants, notably Jadran and Donna. Along the entire promenade there are many fast food places, offering barbecue, giros, pancakes, slices of pizza, icecream etc with affordable prices. A McDonalds seasonal restaurant is open on the promenade during the summer.
Accommodation in Budva is abundant, and varies from renting a room for €10-15 to handsomely priced five-star hotels. There are big differences in prices of accommodation - not only between types of accommodation but for same accommodation during different times of the year. For example, a hostel-like room that rents for €7 per person/per night during the off-season can rent for €20 and up per person/per night during July and August.

The Walled City of Budva's Stari Grad, Montenegro
Budva's Stari Grad (Old Town) lies on a little island that was linked to the land by a sandbar and in time turned into a peninsula. It is surrounded by ramparts originating from the XV century including a medieval fortification system with city gates, defense walls and towers. The Old Town consists of narrow streets and alleys and small squares with precious monuments of different Mediterranean cultures that have marked the development of this town. You can enter in Old Town from one of five entrance doors.
Much of the architecture in the Old Town is of Venetian design. Doors, hinges, windows, balconies and many other small but noticeable things seem to hold the Roman style of the Republic of Venice. There are also three main churches in the old town. The first is St. Ivan's which was built in the 7th century, second St. Mary's of Punta dating from 840 and the third, The Holy Trinity, which was built in 1804. The venetian walls of the Old town are a famous tourist attraction. The Old Town is also famous for the earthquakes it suffered in 1979, where the whole town had to be rebuilt; it took eight years (until 1987) for it to be finished.
10 Things to do in Budva, Montenegro Travel Guide
Join us as we visit Budva, Montenegro in this travel guide covering locals eats, top attractions and the best things to do in Budva during your trip. Visiting in the off-season meant exploring the Old Town was an uncrowded affair. We had the incredible Citadel to ourselves, wandered along the coast and got lost in the small maze of the walled city. For Montenegrin cuisine we grabbed food along the waterfront with great views and a bit of brisk breeze in late fall. Overall, we had a pleasant visit and would recommend taking a day trip here from Kotor or even stay a few nights if your schedule allows for it.

Our visit Budva travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Montenegrin), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting churches, parks, the old town, stari grad, citadel, coastal beach walks, quirky neighborhoods and museums. 10 Things to do in Budva, Montenegro Travel Guide (Будва) Video Transcript:
Good morning good morning guys. Greetings from Budva, Montenegro. Budva! So this is our second stop in Montenegro. Yeah. We left Kotor behind and what was it like 30 or 40 minute bus ride. Yeah, ridiculously close. Yep. Probably our shortest travel day. Yeah. So far. And we're also really close to the Old Town. Like our apartment is a 15 minute walk. Yeah. So we've just walked down here and we're going to show you some different things you can in Budva in this travel guide. But first breakfast. Breakfast of course.
Budva is a popular resort town that sits on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, so we started the morning off with a walk along the harbour where you can see everything from little fishing boats to luxury yachts. Though Budva is very close to Kotor, it has a very different feel so we’re going to take you on a quick day tour of the city and show you what it’s all about.
Budva Old Town Beach may not be the prettiest to swim in, but you do get some nice views of the walled city with St. Ivan’s Church peeking above the fortifications, but now let’s continue up the coast.
If you keep walking west along the coast, you’ll first come across the Ballerina Statue, also nicknamed Yoga Girl, keep following that path and it’ll bring you to Mogren Beach and Mogren 2, which are a bit sandier and less pebbly than the beach in the Old Town.
The Old Town of Budva is situated on a rocky peninsula, with the citadel located on the southern tip of the city. There isn’t a lot of information about the site once you enter, but it’s worth the visit for the views of the Old Town alone.
And that’s pretty much it for our tour of Budva. As you can see, the Old Town is quite small and compact, so you could easily cover it in half a day if you only had time for a day trip. We hope you enjoyed this quick tour and we’ll see you in the next video!
This is part of our Travel in Montenegro video series showcasing Montenegrin food, Montenegrin culture and Montenegrin cuisine.

Altstadt (Old Town) Budva in Budva, Montenegro
Budva is a Montenegrin town on the Adriatic Sea, former bishopric and present Latin Catholic titular see. It has around 60,000 inhabitants, and it is the centre of Budva Municipality. The coastal area around Budva, called the Budva riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism, known for its well-preserved medieval walled city, sandy beaches and diverse nightlife. Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast.
See the former city fortress, Altstadt (Old Town) Budva, a fully functional complex of antique structures filled with quaint restaurants, historical sites, and homes. As you approach the site from Budva's vibrant promenade, you'll observe its rugged walls, which preserve remnants of numerous cultures, spanning the 6th century BCE to the present day. Tour the narrow Venetian streets, see Roman baths, and visit museums that preserve ancient treasures, medical instruments, and miniature multicolored glass vessels where sailors kept their loved ones' tears, according to tradition.
The Old Town of Budva is situated on a rocky peninsula, on the southern end of Budva field. Archaeological evidence suggests that Illyrian settlement was formed on the site of the Old Town before Greek colonization of the Adriatic. While the site was permanently settled since Roman era, most of existing city walls and buildings were erected during the Venetian rule.
The entire town is encircled with defensive stone walls. The fortifications of Budva are typical of the Medieval walled cities of the Adriatic, complete with towers, embrasures, fortified city gates and a citadel.
Originally, there were gates on all of the four sides of the walled city. However, sea-facing gates were closed up over the years. The main city gate is Porta di Terra Ferma, the grand entry to the city from the west. It is also the beginning of the city's main thoroughfare, Njegoševa Street. There are also four more gates on the north wall, facing Budva marina (Porta Pizana, Porta Pizana 1 and 2, and Porta Pizanella), and one small gate facing the southwestern beach of Ričardova glava.
The layout of the town is roughly orthogonal, although many streets deviate from the grid, resulting in somewhat irregular pattern, with many piazzas connected with narrow streets. Today, the entire city within the walls is pedestrian-only.
The town citadel is situated on the southern tip of the city. Originally known as Castle of St Mary, fortification was continually rebuilt and expanded through Middle Ages, reaching its final form during the Austro-Hungarian rule. The sea-facing 160m long ramparts of the citadel, complete with eastern and western towers, are intricately connected to the rest of the city walls. Austrian stone barracks form the most prominent structure within the castle, separating the citadel from the rest of the walled city. Ruins of the Santa Maria de Castello church, after which the entire complex was originally named, are located within the citadel.
A large public square is located to the north of the citadel, containing all of the churches of the old town - St. Ivan church (17th century), Santa Maria in Punta (840 AD), and The Holy Trinity church (1804).
The Old Town suffered extensive damage in 1979 earthquake; repair and reconstruction took eight years (until 1987), but traces of the damage are now hardly noticeable. Today, it is a prime visitor attraction of Budva, packed with tourists during the summer months. Its narrow cobbled streets are lined with restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops.
Although Budva is notable for its long history and its well-preserved Old Town, it is not primarily known as a destination for sightseeing or cultural tourism. Unlike Kotor or Dubrovnik, Budva has an image of a crowded beach resort, with a lively and vibrant atmosphere and a very active nightlife.

Montenegro - A Bay of Saints - Trailer
This trailer presents the first 10 minutes of the CRTN - documentary A Bay of Saints.
Production Date: 2005
Duration: 58
Copyright : CRTN
Language: English, German, French, Czech, Spanish
Executive Producer: Mark Riedemann
Director: Mirela Cigić & Ivan Cigić
The 58-minute film considers the extraordinary, and to date somewhat hidden, pearl that is the Bay of Kotor in what is now the Republic of Montenegro. The films reveals that no less than 17 saints enriching the Catholic Church derive from this region.
The story also considers the historical hardship of the Croat Catholics and how, from a height of Catholic historical and architectural glory in this region, the Church has declined suffering greatly at the hands of communism. Today a hesitant revival of faith is underway.

Our trip in Montenegro:
Montenegro
The pearl of the Mediterranean, unique in many ways, is situated in the south of the Adriatic. Nowhere else can you find, so much natural wealth, beauty, mild beaches, clear lakes, fast rivers, and gorgeous mountains in such a compact area as in Montenegro.
Budva
Budva is the metropolis of Montenegrin tourism thanks to the great number of beaches and hotels that make this a most desirable tourist destination.Apart from its natural beauty, its bay islands and beaches for example, Budva is rich in historic monuments
Kotor
Wedged between brooding mountains and a moody corner of the bay, the achingly atmospheric Kotor (Котор) is perfectly at one with its setting. Hemmed in by staunch walls snaking improbably up the surrounding slopes, the town is a medieval maze of museums, churches, cafe-strewn squares and Venetian palaces and pillories.

The Old Town of Budva (Montenegro)
Enable English subtitle ! - Activați subtitrarea în românește !
The most important tourist destination of Montenegro is Budva, a resort located on the Adriatic coast. In turn, the crown of the tourist attractions of Budva shines through the most precious pearl, namely the Old Town, which is in line with the amazing fortress-cities located further north on the Dalmatian coast, namely Kotor, Dubrovnik and others. The present video is intended to be an introduction to the fantastic world of this millenary city seen through the eyes of a rushed tourist who sneaks through the maze of narrow streets bordered by tall stone houses, a legacy from the period of Venetian domination (15th-18th centuries), in good part now transformed into a tourist bazaar, discovering the main objectives, but also the life of the inhabitants invaded by the hordes of tourists.

???????? 발칸반도 여행, 몬테네그로 코토르&페라스트, 발칸 여행시 절대 빼면 안되는 나라, 발칸에서 피요르드를 보다. | Montenegro Kotor & Perast Trip
