Iran's Armenian Christian minority began 2020 by holding a mass in Tehran's Saint Sarkis cathedral on Wednesday.
I hope 2020 will bring gratification and happiness not only for me but also for all people as I personally think that this year we have been preoccupied with economic issues. Moreover, I truly wish that all people, not only Iranian people, will have a good year, said local worshipper Angin Ebrahimi.
Economic stability, happiness and peace were among people's wishes for the New Year, for which some lit a candle and said a prayer inside the cathedral.

STORYLINE
Christian worshippers in the Iranian capital Tehran gathered in churches across the city to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christianity is a minority religion in Iran, where the majority of the population is Shiite Muslim, but Christianity of most denominations is accepted.
It is an officially recognised religion in Iran's Islamic constitution and its followers can freely perform their religious rituals.
Ryan Isa, an Assyrian Catholic priest at St Mary's church in Tehran said he was able to carry out the nativity ceremony without trouble.
Rituals are always held in a peaceful environment here and I am happy to say that we enjoy a calm condition and people can perform their religious duties in this tranquil and peaceful condition, he said.
Shops selling Christmas goods were doing a roaring trade in central Tehran on Tuesday, as Muslims too embraced the Christian festival.
Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) was the prophet of God and we like to share the happiness of our fellow Christian countrymen, said one local Muslim resident.
I like Christian New Year celebrations very much and have a tree from Christmas last year in my house.
But not all Iran's Christians are equally tolerated.
Protestants, and particularly evangelical groups, have repeatedly been harassed by the authorities in recent years, and Christian converts also face dangers, according to the campaigning organisation, Minority Rights Group International.
