Day Trip to Maastricht - Vlog (Video Blog) Travel Netherlands ????????
A day trip to Maastricht, we walked across the Sint-Servaas bridge overlooking the Meuse River to both Our Beloved Lady Square (Onze Lieve Vrouweplein) and Het Vrijthof. Watched the old watermill churn at The Bishop Mill bakery. Examined the Old City Wall along the Jeker River, strolled through the Stadpark to Fort Saint Peter (Fort Sint Pieter) where we missed our tour of the Limestone Caves.

Basilica of Our Lady, Maastricht, Netherlands
This sacred site is a destination for many pilgrims today as well as in the past for those who wish to venerate Mother Mary. She is known here as Our Lady of Maastricht or the Star of the Sea where 1700 lives were miraculously saved during a shipwreck. Possibly sitting on an ancient site of a Roman temple, this church as been a place of Christian worship for a thousand years. This video shows the entrance way in front of the statue where the public can visit, light a candle and pray. The actual statue and altar are situated in a room farther back that is not accessible by the public. Nevertheless, the energy in this room was quite palpable and one of the few sacred sites I've visited where the feeling of energy was quite strong.

The history of Maastricht to read. De geschiedenis van. 'T is drök op de brök.
Sint Servaasbrug bridge brug aw brök in Maastricht. Anti virtual reality version. First full good song with lyrics about the first real historical oldest bridges in the Netherlands, northern Europe BC, and history of Maastricht in short to read. The Sint Servaasbridge is a National monument of the Netherlands.
'T is drök op de brök by Ben Pachen.
I wrote this song in 1993 especially for the Sint Servaasbridge in Maastricht after seeing for so many years the carnival parade combined with about 3000 people on that bridge, in the Maastricht dialect. After diving into the history of the bridge I've discovered that the Romans ones build a first bridge on the place where now the Sint Servaasbridge is standing. Maybe the first north European (Septentrion) bridge ever. That roman bridge is the base of Maastricht and without that first bridge, Maastricht would never have being founded. The first bridge was fully build out of wood around 50 B.C. It was build because of a supply route that was needed from Bologne sur mer up to Cologne to eventually build Cologne and Trier. That first bridge collapsed around 25 A.D. The second roman bridge was done in the first part of the first century, around 25 A.D. partly out of stone and lasted up till the 13th century. The Sint Servaasbridge was build in 1229 combined with the walls around Maastricht after the second roman bridge collapsed because of bad maintenance during a procession and around 400 people died. This third bridge has being named after Saint Servaas who moved his bishop seat from Tongeren to Maastricht because the castelum in Maastricht was smaller and therefore cheaper to secure, against the threat of the rebellion troupes after the Romans left the north of Europe. That situation was very fortunate for Maastricht because Maastricht could remain populated and grow out into a pilgrimage place wich lasted up to the 17th century, till Louis the 14th burned in a jealous mude our history. All together I believe, going through our history up till now, this Sint Servaas bridge is a perfect symbol for our physical and spiritual maintenance in general. So I thought it was reason enough to write a song about this Sint Servaasbridge, that connected for so many years the East and West of Maastricht. As far as I know it's the first song ever, about the old bridge. Maybe it's the first time ever somebody has written a full song with lyrics about a real bridge in general but, I love to have some comment on that.
So feel free, if you disagree, to write me some words here bellow in the comment section. I've once made an English version, but the text is about a complete different subject. In English the text is about endorsement in sports, the titel of that song is ''We take what we want''. The mix of that version has changed from carnival in to rock. The text of this carnival version you hear in this video goose like this;
Chorus.
It's crowded on the bridge.
So crowded on the bridge.
So crowded on the bridge.
On the bridge it is heart-suffocating crowded.
Couplet 1.
From the shops, up til the man.
Who in wyck, says thanks to the people. Looking at the station, or maybe, at a woman. Couplet 2.
Look at them jump, see them go.
Hear them sing, watch them standing there. Mary and Jo with their dog.
Today nobody can stay away.
See them coming, from north and south.
It don't matter, cause the bridge can handle it.
The whole world is there, from everywhere and everyone understands each other.
So far the lyrics of the song you've heard. The download link is
The reason why I use this naive drawing in my video is because, this song is a part of an Audiomonument and an Audiomonument doesn't require an exquisite video. The titel of the Audiomonument is called ''For the Cleaners''. For all the other songs of the Audiomonument plus explanation why this Audiomonument has been founded you can visit my channel and read the comment in the video ''Hello you''. For now, thanks for reading this and have a nice day.
