Walking in YAMAGUCHI City Japan - Walk to St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church
I was originally going to walk up the small hill and see the nice view of the city but there was some construction happening.
Instead I walked through some houses to the modern church on the other side.

Sekishoinari Shrine [関所稲荷神社] Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
Sekishoinari Shrine or 関所稲荷神社 is a small shrine located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Although from the road it looks as though it has seen better days it has clearly been well kept and is regularly visited.
Unfortunately I do not have any specific information regarding this shrine. More information will be posted when/if it becomes available.

I'm trying to get to the castle ruins in scorching heat (Vancouver people are very sensitive to warm weather).
Some people probably don't know but Hagi city in Yamaguchi has quite a bit of sightseeing...

Japan Travel: First and Forever Shrine for Yamaguchi Residents, Yamaguchi Daijingu, Yamaguchi, Japan 19 Moopon
Yamaguchi Daijingu (山口大神宮, Yamaguchi Daijingū) is a much smaller and simpler version of the Ise Shrines. It was built in 1518 after the local lord had traveled to Ise and returned home wishing to have a shrine that houses the same deities as those at Ise. Henceforth, the locals who were unable to travel to Ise in person had the opportunity to visit Yamaguchi Daijingu instead, and the shrine became known as the Ise Shrines of the West.
Like the Ise Shrines, Yamaguchi Daijingu consists of an outer and an inner shrine, which are rebuilt every 20 years. Unlike the Ise Shrines, however, the shrines of Yamaguchi Daijingu are located just next to each other. The shrine structures come with a simple, wooden appearance, portraying a purely Japanese architectural style with little influence from mainland Asia. Yamaguchi Daijingu is located within a forest at the outskirts of the city, providing the serene setting for a tranquil visit.
Access:
Yamaguchi Daijingu stands about two kilometers northwest of Yamaguchi Station. It can be reached on foot (30 minutes) or by rental bicycles, which are available outside the station (300 yen for two hours or 700 yen for the whole day).
Alternatively, take a bus from the station bound for Yamaguchi Daigaku (山口大学) or Nakaoguchi (中尾口) and stop at Kenchomae (県庁前) bus stop (6 minutes, 170 yen, 2-3 departures per hour). From the bus stop it takes five minutes to walk to the shrine.

Rent-a Cycle Yamaguchi City Japan July 2nd, 2019
The best way to see Yamaguchi, or any other Japanese city as far as I am concerned is by Rent-a-Cycle shops. Ours was 300 yen per person for 2 hours, pay the balance once you bring the bike back.
Very relaxing!

Study Abroad 5- First Look at Yamaguchi City
When I first arrived in Yamaguchi (Sept 26th), I stayed with a friend and her family. They took me bowling and then gave me a small tour of the city. So here's just a quick glance at my new home!

Part 2 Family Vacation in Yamaguchi - Visiting Akiyoshi Caves & Omishima Island
In our last part of our family vacation, we visit some mysterious caves. The coolness of the caves is great because in the heat of the summer it's nice and mild inside those dark cavernous trails. The last part of our journey was the amazing Omishima Island where we experienced an amazing beach full of snorkellers and divers. Heading up the mountain side you hike up to a famous point that showcases a chain of islands all set in a picturesque view. Of course, our Phantom 4 Pro drone came along and got some great shots.

Iwakuni Art Museum, located on the other side of the Kintai-kyo Bridge in Iwakuni city, Yamaguchi Prefecture, features glassware, samurai armor, ceramics, and the furniture of Iwakuni's feudal lords.
Once visitors cross the Kintai-kyo Bridge, they will see the statue of Kikkawa Hiroyoshi, the 3rd lord of Iwakuni. Behind Kikkawa’s statue is Kikko Park, a beautiful, spacious area blessed with nature. During the Edo Periods, the residences of the Kikkawa family were located here, in Kikko Park, with relatives living nearby. As a result, in addition to the fountains and spectacular natural surroundings, Kikko Park contains the ruminants of former samurai residences and museums displaying historic artifacts of this part of Japan.
