【JAPAN】 Saitama Prefectural Museum of the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds 【公式】埼玉県立さきたま史跡の博物館(英語版)
Since opening in 1969, the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds Museum (formerly known as the Sakitama Museum) has been actively involved in the preservation and maintenance of the Sakitama Kofun Cluster, a nationally designated historical site consisting of ancient burial mounds, and related projects. To restore and preserve what the Sakitama Kofun Cluster looked like when it was first constructed, the Museum researches and collects materials regarding the historical site and houses many of the artifacts discovered during excavations. Two categories of artifacts are introduced here: some of the burial accessories that were discovered at the main site (the burial mound) of the Inariyama Kofun and later designated as national treasures, and a particular type of earthenware called haniwa, figures characteristic of the Kofun Period that were arranged on top of the burial mounds or in rows along nearby ditches and moats. These artifacts are extremely valuable resources in understanding the ancient history of Japan.

Japanese Fire Festival - Sakitama Kofun Fire Festival さきたま火祭り
At Sakitama Kofun Park a fire festival is held on May 4th to celebrate an ancient myth of a Shinto goddess who defended her honor by giving birth in the midst of a blazing fire.
According to the ancient Japanese records of the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, Ninigi no Mikoto, the grandson of the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami, descended from heaven to rule the land. He married the Konohanasakuya-hime (Sakuya-bime), the daughter of the Mountain God, Ohoyamatsumi, and she became pregnant and ready to give birth in one night. Ninigi was suspicious and asked if the child was truly his.
Sakuya-bime was offended and to defend her honor had a hut made for herself then set it on fire claiming if the child was Ninigi then no harm should come to the child. As the fire blazed, Sakuya-bime gave birth to three healthy divine children and Ninigi was satisfied. One of the children (Hoori or Hikohohodemi) would become the grandfather of the first human Emperor, Jimmu, who according to ancient legend ascended the throne in 660 BC.

Fire Festival in Hirata
Every March, residents of Hirata, Gifu-ken, have a fire festival. They spend the weeks prior making bamboo shrines, which they carry through the streets to a plaza. Then, drunken men in makeup and drag dance around the shrines and set them on fire.
Hiyoshi Taisha Sanno-sai Festival Part 1/2 山王祭
Held by Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan (not to be confused with the Sanno Matsuri held in Tokyo), the annual Sanno-sai is held during April 12-14 and features processions, torches at night, violent rocking of portable shrines, and a boat procession on Lake Biwa. This Part 1 video shows the festival on April 13, 2009 which climaxed with the violent rocking of mikoshi portable shrines at night. Photos:
DJI Phantom Crash in Shizuoka, Japan
I took a weekend trip out to Shizuoka, Japan (1.5 hours south west of Tokyo) with only one goal in mind: to get some awesome drone pics and video. I arrived at Shizuoka station and trekked an hour north through the valley of luscious forest, towards Umegashima forest.
After an arduous journey of winding roads, I found myself alone at the mouth of Akamizu no Taki, or the slightly redundant Red Waters Waterfall. It was the perfect spot and conditions were ideal to fly -- blue skies and no wind.
Then I totally bombed it…A costly $1,000 mistake.

丸墓山古墳 : 埼玉県行田市 日本全国2位の規模の円墳(丸型)古墳
English description will be later.

(Inariyama kofun)
The Maruhakayama kofun (Circular type ancient tomb) : It is estimated that this particular kofun (ancient tomb) was constructed around the first half of 6th century. It is located in the Sakitama ancient tombs cluster in Saitama pref. Gyoda city. The shape is circular type with 105 meters in diameter and 18.9 meters in height. It ranks 2nd place size in circular type ancient tomb in Japan, next to the Tomio-maruyama kofun (10 meters in diameter) located in Nara.
When the top class warlord : Toyotomi Hideyoshi attacked the Odawara castle in 1590, he ordered his close aide : Ishida Mitsunari to attack Oshi castle near Maruhakayama kofun. He made his army camp on the top of Maruhakayama kofun. His strategy was to inundate castle by making long bank with about 28km and by introducing water from large river. The part of the bank built at the time can be seen near Maruhakayama Shooting Dec. 7th, 2017
