Goddess Parvathi made penance towards the lord Shiva from here .The lord decided to test her and delayed his dharshan. Goddess came to know this and stood in one leg and started her penance. Though he got satisfied but extended his test. At last he came to this place in the form of big flame (Jyothiswarubam). Upon knowing the Lord, Parvathi embraced him. Hence the Lord is called as Sivakkozhundeeswarar and the place is called as Siva Sakthi mutram.This temple is opposite to Patteeswaram durga amma temple. This is powerful temple for married couple puja.
Patteeshwaram Temple is a famous Shiva shrine . This temple is also famous for Shantha Swaroopi Vishnu Durga. This was built by the Chola Kings.
Unlike in other temples, the Durga here is very soft in look and grace (Shanta Swarupi). Sitting on her vehicle Lion, placing the feet on the head of Demon Mahishasura, the Goddess appears in a Tribanga stature, eight hands, three eyes and jewels in the ears. Generally, the Lion carrying Kali would be looking on the right side. But the Shanta Swarupi Durga's Lion here faces the left side. In her hands, the mother holds, conch, wheel, bow, arrow, sword, shield and a parrot.

The Kampaheswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva. It is situated in the town of Thirubuvanam on the Mayiladuthurai-Kumbakonam road. Shiva is worshipped as Kampaheswarar as he removed the quaking (Skt. Kampa) of a king who was being haunted by a Brahmarakshasa.
As per Hindu legend, Shiva is believed to have relieved Kampa (quaking) of a king haunted by evil spirits on account of the king killing a Brahmin by mistake. This led to the name of Kampahisvara. As per another legend, Shiva is believed to have assumed the form to quench the fury of Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu.

Sakthivanesvara Temple (சக்திவனேஸ்வரர் கோயில்)[1] is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva located in a small village called Thirusakthimutram, near another small (but relatively better-known) village, Patteswaram. The nearest urban centre, about seven kilometres (four-and-a-half miles) away, is Kumbakonam in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Here the presiding deity Sakthivanesvara is a form of the Hindu god Shiva, in which his usual worship symbol the Lingam is hugged by his consort Parvati, hence he is also known as Sivakozhundeesvara and Sakthi Mutham. It is believed that when one prays to Sakthivanesvara with faith, one is blessed with the life partner of one's choice.
Parvathi was doing penance at this place to seek the hands of Shiva. Shiva is believed to have appeared as a column of fire and Parvathi could not bear the heat, she embraced Shiva, give the name Sakthimutram (meaning, Sakthi (Parvathi) embracing Shiva).

Thenupuriswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva located in the holy village of Patteeswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Tirugnana Sambandar and is classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam.
The temple of Patteeswarar presents a magnificent sight with five gopurams and three prakarams. It measures 650 feet (200 m) east to west and 295 feet (90 m) south to north. Pattisvara, the presiding form of Shiva manifests himself in the form of Linga, in the central mandapa of the first prakaram. Subsidiary deities like Sapthamatha, Mahalakshmi, Renuka, Navagraha, Surya, Chandra and Bhairava are housed in the inner parts of the temple. Ganesha is represented at three different places in three different forms - Anugai Pillayar, Madhavarna Pillayar and Swarna Vinayagar. In the northern part of the first prakaram, the consort goddess Gnanambigai (Parvati) lies in a separate shrine. A sculpture of Parvati doing penance is also found inside the temple.
Tirugnana Sambandar came to Thirusattimutram with Adiyars(saints) to worship at the Shiva temple. Then he started towards Patteeswaram. Since the Solar movement was towards the Mituna star causing oppressive heat waves, the child Sambandar could not manage. The Lord sent his bhoodaganas(servants) to decorate the streets with beautiful Muthu pandal(ceiling made of Pearl). The bhoodaganas prepared the pandal (ceiling) without Sambandar's knowledge. Sambandar was astonished by the reverence of God and enjoyed the shade offered. In order that Sambandar has a view of the Sanctum sanctorium from outside, Shiva ordered Nandi to shift position. Shiva is revered by the hymns of Sambandar.
The temple is located in a residential locality of Madambakkam near Tambaram. From Chennai, the temple is at a distance of 30.3 km and can be reached in an hour. Madambakkam was a residence to a lot of scholars and was known by the name Chaturvedimangalam during the olden days.
The history of this temple dates back to 957-970 CE. Kapila, a sage who was cursed to be born as a cow, is said to have attained liberation in this place. It is said that the sage offered prayers to Lord Shiva using his left hand, which resulted in a curse and he therefore took birth as a cow.Sage Kapila continued to pray to Lord Shiva by pouring milk on the buried Shiva Linga during his birth as a cow.
On seeing the cow wasting the milk, the cowherd punished the cow, but the same continued every single day until one day the cow, unable to bear the pain, began to run. The hoof of the cow hit the surface of the Lingam that was buried and it started to bleed.
On seeing this, the cowherd panicked and sought forgiveness from Lord Shiva. The Lord appeared and blessed sage Kapila and liberated him from his birth as a cow and also forgave the cowherd.
Apparently, the then ruler of the land dreamt of this occurrence and ordered his folks to unearth the Shiva Linga and called it Dhenupureeswarar.
“Dhenu” refers to cow and since sage Kapila attained liberation by the blessings of Lord Shiva, the Lord here is known by the name of Dhenupureeswarar.
The presiding deity is Lord Shiva, known as Dhenupureeswarar, who is a self-manifested one at this temple. His consort goddess Parvathi is known by the name of Dhenukambal. While the main idol faces the East, the idol of the goddess Parvathi is installed in a separate sanctum that faces South.
Like other temples in Tamil Nadu, the construct of the sanctum is semi-circular in nature, resembling the back of a sleeping elephant, unlike other Hindu shrines which are normally square or rectangular.
The temple of Dhenupureeswarar was built during the rule of Parantaka Chola II, father of Raja Raja Chola I, during whose reign the spectacular Brihadeeswarar Temple was also constructed in Thanjavur. A line about this temple has been recorded in one of the works of a 15th century Tamil poet named Arunagirinathar.
The temple has massive pillars and beautiful Mandapams. One of the pillars in the temple has the carvings of sage Kapila holding the Shiva Lingam in his left hand.
There is a huge tank in the temple premises that is always filled with fresh water.
Festivals And Fairs At The Dhenupureeswarar Temple The temple attracts a lot of devotees during Shivaratri and Navaratri; and the temple also follows a lot of other religious pujas like Pradosham and Panguni Uttiram.
How To Reach The Dhenupureeswarar Temple
The temple is at a distance of 3 km from the Tambaram-Valachery road and a lot of buses ply from this point to the temple.

The temple is open to the devotees from 6 AM to 12:30 PM during the day and from 5 PM to 8:30 PM in the evenings.
