Community 20 (Lashibi) - Tema / Sakumono, Ghana
This clip shows Community 20 & 19 in eastern Accra, heading towards Sakumono Junction. We have exited the Kwame Nkrumah Motorway near the Accra Abattoir (not shown), and pass the residential area of Community 20. After a break in the filming (look for the building with the Stars & Stripes), the clip restarts on Nungua Road at Community 19, and ends around 500 yards short of Sakumono Junction.
When in Ghana, I stay at my colleague's apartment in Sakumono, so I have driven this stretch of road many times before !

Sakumono (Accra - Ghana)
This clip shows typical urban life in Sakumono, which is the district just west of Tema, which has become part of Accra's sprawl eastwards. I had arrived in Ghana the day before, and my friend liked my video camera and wanted to try it out, so he went for a wander with it. He walks around his apartment, and captures the typical relaxed Ghanaian lifestyle. The footage dates from new year's day, 2007.

This clip is one of three similar clips that I am uploading that is of the port-city of Tema, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The footage starts with the drive along the coastal road, and past the large cocoa storage warehouses, before continuing through Communities 2, 1, then ending as the vehicle is heading towards Community 6. Towards the end, we pass a school where children are playing football on a pitch, which is directly across the road from Tema Sports Stadium (this was on the opposite side of where I was seated in the vehicle, so I couldn't get it in shot).

Fixing An Exhaust.....Roadside - Tema, Ghana
This clip shows a roadside business that fixes car exhausts in Community 6 in Tema, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. I had been using my friend's vehicle to do my rounds, but it was rather noisy, and because I know little about car maintenance, my friend told me the exhaust was rusted. So when I was dropping off his wife on my rounds, we took a detour and got him a new exhaust. Much cheaper than a repair shop (30 Ghana Cedis), and they did quite a good job. Their business was little more than a shelter, a blow torch, some ramps, and replacement pipes and mufflers - not too many overheads to worry about, that's for sure !
