This video has been something that I have been planning and working on for the past year. It took me a while to get it out because I spent a little extra time in editing to make it as close to my original vision as possible. My wife and I were able to go to Japan in April 2015 and it was amazing. The main reason we went in April was to see the famous Sakura season of Japan. The best translation of Sakura in English is “cherry blossom.” This translation, I feel, is limited because Sakura is much more than cherry blossoms. Sakura is a whole season, a spirit, a magical experience when you are surrounded by millions of beautiful pink blossoms. The weather ended up giving us a few challenges but I believe I was able to get enough shots at least for this video. It was Kayla’s first time to Japan but I had lived there from 2004 - 2006 serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was so good being back and I absolutely loved it. Japan will always have a special place in my heart and I would go back at any possible chance I get.
The background music Sakura is an original by Ricky Valadez and it was inspired by the sound and feel from Studio Chibli’s Joe Hisaishi, specifically from the soundtrack of My Neighbor Totoro.

Bright pink and white flowers carpeted the landscape in Gui'an New District and Qingzhen City. In Anshun City, face patterns made of yellow, white and purple rapeseed flowers covered the hillsides. In north China's Shanxi Province, pink-white apricot blossoms could be seen as well. In Jinzhai County of east China's Anhui Province, bright red azalea blossoms mixed in with green mountains. While cherry blossoms can be found around the world, the majority of species can be found in eastern Asia.

Please visit us at: Usually in the first two weeks of April, the Japanese sakura flower festival known as Hanami is held across southern and central Japan. Most people enjoy seeing cherry blossoms during the daytime in parks, along rivers, and at temples and shrines. However, throughout Japan you can also see these festivals (called matsuri in Japanese) at select night time shows where flood lights are used to create an other worldly display. The main star of these shows is the famous Yoshino cherry, Prunus yedoensis. Come along for a short visit to one of these magical festivals here in Kyushu, Japan.
