Cherry blossom Japan花見 - Beautiful Sakura at Nakameguro, Tokyo - PART II

Part II - I had an amazing run among the sakura (cherry blossom) trees at Nakameguro, Tokyo. The Japanese call looking at the sakura 花見 or 'hanami'. Since I like running, I decided to combine both and make it into a 'Runami'. hehe.

The cherry blossom (sakura) has been celebrated in Japan for many centuries and holds a very particular place in Japanese culture. Although there are many varieties of cherry tree in Japan, most bloom for just a couple of days in spring. The Japanese celebrate this time of the year with Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties: friends, family or work colleagues gather and sit on plastic mats under the blossoming trees, to drink, sing, chat or just admire the spectacle.

2013年（平成25年）10月11日～14日に山陰地方（島根・鳥取県）を旅行した。60年に１回おこなわれるという遷宮年である出雲大社への参拝が最大の目的であるが、他にも多くの場所を訪問した。

Like cherry blossoms? Tired of the tourist hordes reading the same guides and rushing to the same places? GO HERE!
The Handayama Botanical Garden in Okayama City is a marvelous place to see the sakura without the crowds. It was opened in May, 1964 and covers 11 hectares with over 150,000 trees and 3200 varieties of plants.
The park is open 9 AM - 4:30 PM (last entry 4 PM). Closed Tuesdays or if a holiday, the following Wednesday. Also closed Dec 29-Jan 3. Entrance fee is ¥308.

- Tsuyama Kakuzan Koen Cherry Blossom Festival in Tsuyama-city, Okayama.
- Takato Joshi Koen Cherry Blossom Festival in Takato-machi Ina-city, Nagano prefecture. The trees in this region have pink blossoms.
- Takada Koen Cherry Blossom Festival in Joetsu-city, Niigata prefecture.
- Kitakami Tenshochi Cherry Blossom Festival in Kitakami-city, Iwate.
