BoArderland - Surfing Further (Estoril - Feels Like California)
Portugal has some of the main destinations for European surfers and attracts an increasing number of surfers from the other side of the Ocean. While the relatively warm waters of Algarve and the perfect geography of Peniche offer the most interesting options on a surf trip, Lisbon is a unique city, offering job opportunities, interesting urban landscapes, a rich night life, a number of skateparks and some breaks which can be worth a visit. The coastline connecting the Tagus with the Atlantic Ocean, the Estoril, is a continuous line of cliffs, interrupted by a few beaches offering amazing views and an easy escape from the city. Depending on the conditions, the spots along the way from Carcavelos to Cascais, and those at Costa da Caparica, crossing the river, are the best chances to score daily sessions dealing with a 9 to 17 job. And when it's on can even be epic.
With lots of people running or working out and so many surfers, skaters and even yogis, it really feels like California.
These places have been part of my story since I started surfing, and became part of my life in the last months. There's a special connection especially with Sao Pedro. This perfect point-break, one of the fewest in the area, has changed my surfing and made my stay in Lisbon even more sweet. Here I try to show what I saw, to share what I felt. Hope you like it.
