Spirit of Salcombe Adventures | Sandbanks to The Solent
The Spirit of Salcombe Adventures takes Salcombe Gin’s co-founders Angus and Howard on a journey from Salcombe to The Solent over the course of 8 days in a custom-made rib, courtesy of Ribeye Boats. Along the way they do a series of events and activities with some of our favourite partners in Salcombe, Dartmouth, Torquay, Babbacombe, the River Exe, Lyme Regis, Sandbanks and finally the Solent.
The final day of Angus and Howard's Spirit of Salcombe Adventures takes them on their S785 Ribeye Boats from Sandbanks to The Solent to the stunning Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa and on to the iconic No Man's Fort at Solent Forts. Fabulous 'Salcombe & Tonics', beautiful food pairings, wonderful venues and great company. An exceptional end to a superb week of adventure. It's a wrap!

That's because P&O Cruises is set to open the world's very first gin distillery at sea, which will feature on board its brand new ship Iona. The cruise line will collaborate with Salcombe Gin to develop and install the distillery, where exclusive gins will be distilled, bottled and labelled. As part of the venture, Salcombe Gin will also distill the yet-to-be-named recipe, in its 450 litre copper still 'Provident' in Salcome, ready to be shared and served on board all the cruise ships in P&O Cruises' fleet. Oh, and of course there will be gin tastings on offer for passengers. In fact, the gin brand will bring masterclasses on Iona where guests can learn all about the popular spirit and sample a variety of gins, while one class will also let passengers create their own drinks recipe. In a tribute to Iona's ports of call, there will also be limited edition drinks created that will be inspired by the various destinations on Iona's itineraries. You'll have to wait until May 2020 when Iona sets sail on her maiden voyage to check it out for yourself, but the good news is that you can already book Iona sailings online . Angus Lugsdin, co-founder of Salcombe Distilling Co, said: We are extremely excited to partner on this exciting project with P&O Cruises. Our two brands have an amazingly rich and shared history. Read More Cruise holidays At the same time that P&O expanded into leisure cruising in the mid-19th century, the famous Salcombe Fruit schooners were entering their heyday, importing cargoes of precious fruits and spices from the Mediterranean to England's ports and the ships probably passed each other on their voyages. Both brands are kindred spirits, born of the sea with a history of breaking new ground and exploring new horizons. To be responsible for creating a unique gin and distilling it on board the first distillery at sea is a very romantic notion and brings us closer to the intrepid adventurers who travelled the world's oceans seeking out the finest fruits, spices and herbs.

Boats, Beach, Rugby, a few Rugby legends and a touch of Gin.. the perfect mix?
The event was co-hosted with our friends at Salcombe Gin and Jack Wills.
Most competitors made their way to the beach by boat of course, making it a very memorable event, finished with an outstanding after party at the Salcombe Gin Distillery Bar!

Tasting a Jacqson Gin (Episode 89 Part 2)
In Part 2 of this episode, we taste a present given to John L by the Quartz team and other members of TEV Ltd. as a leaving present. The present was a Gin produced locally in a relatively new distillery in the town of Huddersfield - England's largest town.
Although the Gin is 42% proof it is remarkably smooth and has a very soft and relatively sweet taste - well worth a try.
