Places to see in ( Camber - UK )
Camber is a village and civil parish in the English county of East Sussex, three miles south-east of Rye. Camber is located behind the sand dunes that occupy the estuary of the River Rother, where the seaside settlement of Camber Sands is situated.
The village of Camber takes its name from the Camber (la Chambre) the huge embayment of the English Channel located between Rye, old Winchelsea and Old Romney that was gradually lost to innings and silting-up following changes to the coastline and the changed course of the Eastern Rother since the Middle Ages.
Camber came into its own with the game of golf: it was originally a collection of fishermen's dwellings. By the early 1890s, the number of visitors to Rye increased as tourism became more prevalent. One result of this was the building, in 1894, of Rye Golf Links in the area of sand dunes which occupy the shores of Rye Bay. The Royal William Hotel opened that year, and gradually the new village expanded. The Rye and Camber Tramway, a tourist railway originally opened for the members of the golf links to carry their gear, was opened in 1895; it closed to the public at the outbreak of World War II and never reopened.
Camber Castle, otherwise known as Winchelsea Castle, was built by Henry VIII to guard the western entrance to the Camber in the 16th Century and is located half way between Rye and Winchelsea on the other side of the river. Camber parish was formed in 1956 from the merger of the parishes of Broomhill and St Thomas the Apostle, Winchelsea.
Camber has two holiday parks and several caravan sites adjacent to the beach. There are also seasonal shops and entertainments. Part of the Site of Special Scientific Interest known as Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay is within the parish. This is a site of national biological and geological importance with various habitats such as shingle, saltmarsh, sand dunes and saline lagoons.

11 weird weather wonders even freakier than those 'hurricane sun' red skies
11 weird weather wonders even freakier than those 'hurricane sun' red skies
If you were freaked out by the bloody sun and scarlet skies, check out these other weird weather phenomena.
The skies over Britain glowed an eerie red on Monday prompting many folk to wonder whether the Apocalypse was nigh.
The hint of red October didn’t really signal the end of days though – it was caused by a plume of Saharan sand pulled in by Hurricane Ophelia.
The rare event was also blamed for a nasty whiff over the Isle of Wight and the skies were further darkened by smoke from wildfires in Portugal.
But if you were freaked out by the bloody sun and scarlet skies, check out these other weird weather phenomena.
Willy-willy
In Aboriginal myth the willy-willy are spirits which emerge from a spinning vortex. Today we call them dust devils - upward spiralling vortices of air reaching up to 1,000ft.
Unlike tornadoes, willy-willies grow upwards from the ground, rather than down from clouds. They travel across the ground and, besides dust, they may also carry loose debris.
In 2011 a boy and a girl were seriously injured when a willy-willy blew a bouncy castle they were in 15ft into the air, over a fence and into the middle of a busy highway in Tuscon, Arizona.
Lenticular Clouds
As wind blows across hilly or mountainous regions, the air undulates in downstream waves.
With enough moisture in the air, the waves condense to form unique disc or lens shaped clouds which can be seen up to 60 miles away. And they could explain a lot of so-called “UFO” sightings.
Catatumbo Lighting
This phenomenon occurs for 160 days a year but only over the mouth of the Catatumbo River in Venezuela.
Warm and cold fronts meet at a point were marshes emit methane gas, improving the electrical conductivity of clouds. The lightning strikes can last for 10 hours at a time.
Brinicles
Brine icicles, or ice stalactites, form beneath sea ice when a flow of extremely cold, saline water is introduced to an area
Animal Rain
The sky may not rain cats and dogs, but it has been known to rain frogs, fish and other animals.
Tornadoes and waterspouts are thought to suck the creatures up before “raining” them down again. In 1957 thousands of small fish, frogs and crayfish fell from the sky during a rainstorm in Alabama.
Many of the fish were still alive and placed in ponds and swimming pools. In 2013 it rained crabs in Florida and frogs in Hungary and Los Angeles had a shower of worms in 2007.
Red Sprites
These blasts of red light can soar up to 60 miles from the top of a cloud during a thunderstorm. They usually correspond with positively charged cloud-to-ground lightning and last for only a few seconds.
Blue jets are similar to red sprites, but they’re negatively charged and appear as cones of blue light that occur lower in the atmosphere.
St Elmo’s Fire
A film of the same name helped Rob Lowe and Demi Moore to fame in 1985. But it took its name from the phenomenon in which static electricity forms during thunder storms and rises up tall objects.
It is named after St. Erasmus of Formiae, aka St Elmo, the patron saint of sailors – as seafarers have reported balls of fire dancing on deck and climbing their ships’ masts.
Fire Devils
A tornado-like vortex of flames is formed when a tornado spins too close to a forest fire or when a heavy concentration of heat is generated in a small area.
Like tornados, fire whirls vary in size and duration but usually last no more than a few minutes. In 1923, a fire whirl emerged during Japan’s Great Kanto Earthquake and killed 38,000 people
Ice Bombs
Exceptionally large hailstones, sometimes called ice bombs can fall from the sky during severe thunderstorms and shatter into smaller pieces when they hit the ground.
One ice bomb was found to weigh 80lbs. The largest hailstone ever to fall in the USA was found in Vivian, S.D., on July 23, 2010, and was 8 inches in diameter and weighed 1 pound, 15 ounces.
Ball lightning
Balls of light that float slowly through the air during thunderstorms have been fascinating people for centuries.
These glowing spheres range in size from golf balls to footballs and emit no heat and little sound. But some have reached eight feet in diameter and caused great damage.
There are reports of ball lightning destroying whole buildings.
Sea foam
Hurricane Ophelia brought another freak weather phenomenon to our shores this week.
The town of Cleveleys, Lancashire and Trearddur Bay in Holyhead, Wales, found themselves awash in “sea snow” as high winds whipped the waves into a frenzy.
It is more likely to occur when the water contains algae and waste which reduce the surface tension and creates bubbles land foam.

Orcas Island - Doe Bay Music Festival
I took a couple of locals for a spin around the Doe Bay Music Festival to check it out from the air. This was done early in the morning before the concerts were underway so as not to disturb. I have to say the flying was rather lower than usual - I can't remember why I did that. Afterwards we proceeded to go over Moran State Park and buzz the tower at the top of Mount Constitution. People were waving and it was all in good fun.

The Secret Parties Billionaires Don't Want You To Know About
Billionaires: they're not just like us. Something happens when you reach a certain level of wealth. The jets become private. The apartments become penthouses. And the parties get real epic real fast. Here are the secret parties billionaires don't want you to know about.
In the hanky-panky filled parties of Silicon Valley, dinner comes first, usually prepared by the host to avoid the prying eyes of cooks and cleaners. Social media is strictly forbidden, for obvious reasons. Then the drugs come out. MDMA seems to be the top choice, although it's far from the only offering. The guests break off into groups of two, three, or more, usually for cuddle puddles, a cute way to describe a gang of groping millionaires and billionaires. From there things get really freaky.
The mostly-male bigwigs of Silicon Valley have these drug-fueled love parties on the regular, bringing in a bevy of young women from anywhere they can get their hands on them. And get their hands on them they do, often with their wives and girlfriends right beside them. These men tend to be the wealthy tycoons behind some of the biggest brands in the world. As Emily Chang, author of the book Brotopia, describes it, they like to treat these parties as extensions of their world-changing professional philosophies by overturning traditions in their private lives. In the end, that means a boatload of hookups in private mansions, estates, and yachts the world over.
Watch to learn more about the secret parties billionaires don't want you to know about!

Robin Bay- Revegetation After Tamarisk Removal on the Lower Colorado River
In 2008 -- 2009, the Cocopah Indian Tribe completed a 40-acre riparian restoration project along the Limitrophe of the Lower Colorado River as a part of their on-going effort to improve habitat and access on their reservation lands near Yuma, AZ. This river reach rarely receives overbank flows and has depressed water tables, minimal in-channel flows, and saline soils. The site was originally cleared of tamarisk in winter of 2004/2005 with heavy equipment. The resprouts were treated before planting in early 2009. The revegetation plan considered climate, existing vegetation communities, soil chemistry and texture, water table depth, hydrologic conditions, budget constraints, and land use priorities. Based on this plan, the area was split into 3 zones: wetland seeding and mesquite transplanting, cottonwood/willow pole planting and understory seeding, and upland seeding. Poles were planted with a 9-ft auger to reach the capillary fringe of the water table and mesquite transplants were only installed where average water table depth was less than 3 ft. A fixed-wing aircraft was used to apply seed and various fertilizers to the site in multiple applications.
Quantitative success monitoring was completed for two years. The project was successful in some respects and less successful in others. This time spanned a period extreme drought and also the first flood of the area since 1993. Vegetation cover after two growing seasons was excellent for an arid area with 38.6% cover. The vegetation cover also includes a large component of a few of the seeded species suggesting that the seeding was somewhat successful. Tamarisk cover also decreased over the project period suggesting that the project has been successful in controlling tamarisk and mitigating recolonization. The containerized transplants were successful with 82% mesquite survival; however, cottonwood/willow pole survival was not as good as expected with only 12% surviving after two growing seasons.

CHESIL BEACH FROM THE AIR - 24.02.15 AT 11.15 AM
Chesil Beach is 18 miles (28 kilometres) long and, on average, 160 metres wide and rises to 12 metres in height. It is a pebble and shingle tombolo connecting Portland to Abbotsbury and then continuing north-westwards to West Bay near Bridport. It is the largest tombolo in the UK.
The pebbles are graded in size from fist-sized near Portland to pea-sized at Bridport. The pebbles are mainly a mix of flint and chert, with some quartzite pebbles from Buddleigh Salterton.
The origin of the beach continues to be argued over with some proposing it is actually two beaches. The stretch from West Bay to Abbotsbury appears to have different characteristics to the stretch from Abbotsbury to Portland.
Chesil Beach shelters Weymouth from the prevailing wind and waves and prevents the area being eroded by wave action. Evidence suggests that the beach is no longer being replenished by natural means.
The beach forms part of the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site, known as the Jurassic Coast.
Chesil Beach is located on the South coast of England in the county of Dorset. It is a pebble beach 18 miles long and stretches north-west from Portland to West Bay. For much of its length it is separated from the mainland by an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon.
The Fleet Lagoon is a shallow area of saline water between Chesil Beach and the mainland. It is 13 km long. Its width varies from 900 metres at Littlesea down to just 65 metres in the Narrows. The deepest part is 4-5 metres deep, but all of the mid and upper Fleet is less than 2 metres deep.
Hamm Beach is on the eastern side of Chesil Beach facing into Portland Harbour. It is formed from material from the east side of Portland moving north to form the Mere barrier and then Hamm Beach. It is an area of shallow sand dunes overlaying shingle.
