Salmon glacier, Hyder Alaska
Driving toward Stewart BC/Hyder Alaska to see the salmon glacier. The scenry along the way is incredible, the glacier is totally awesome! The glacier is about 20 miles outside of Hyder. The drive from Hyder is mostly unpaved, steep, with lots of holes in the road. The view is so worth it!
Salmon Glacier Road - Hyder, Alaska
The view from the end of the Salmon Glacier Road in Hyder, Alaska. The Salmon Glacier is the largest glacier in the world that you can drive to.
The sister cities of Hyder, Alaska and Stewart, British Columbia were among my favourites in all of Alaska, Yukon, and British Columbia. Note that you don't need to pass through United States Customs to get from Stewart to Hyder but you do need to pass through Canada Customs when you return!

Salmon Glacier, Hyder - Alaska - Adventure Motorcycling.MP4
Hyder, Salmon Glacier in British Colombia. Nick and Ivanka take a break on the long trek up to Salmon Glacier. A long gravel road, bears on route - with some of the most spectacular scenery.
Quite a challenging narrow road with steep drops to one side, then of course the odd bear to watch out for. A memorable journey and great adventure motorcycling.

Salmon Glacier - Alaska (USA) - September 2013
This Salmon Glacier is the filth biggest glacier for all North America. It is located 30 km north of Hyder (Southeast of Alaska). One of the best moments of my ten years beekeeping world tour on a BMW motorbike (bees there but not beekeepers!).

We Saved The Best For Last... SALMON GLACIER... WOW! Hard to say goodbye to Alaska...
Goodbye Alaska... for now! Salmon Glacier Was The Icing On Our Alaska Adventure Cake! As we are heading back to the lower 48 we get one more magnificent glimpse at Alaska in Hyder. And Salmon Glacier turned out to be one of the most stunning, magnificent sites we’ve ever seen... even if we did see it through tears in our eyes!
As we continue our trek back to the lower 48 from our trip of a lifetime in Alaska we get to explore the beauty all along the Cassiar Highway. We think you’ll agree that we saved the best for last! Glaciers are something we haven’t really seen that much until our trip to Alaska. We’d heard from friends that Salmon Glacier was the most stunning to see from land and all we can say is WOW! Salmon Glacier was an experience we will never, ever, never forget. Top that off with the salmon at Bear Creek and getting to watch a big black bear standing up to eat leaves right in the town of Hyder. Hard to top that experience for sure!

TRUCK CAMPER LIFE: From REINDEER to SALMON and SEA LIONS in VALDEZ, ALASKA// CtW S1:E34
#Valdez #4x4Camper
Valdez, Alaska is one of the best places to view wildlife in all of Alaska! From salmon rushing the river at Solomon Gulch to the sea lions, otters and bald eagles that feast upon them there is no shortage of wildlife in the area.
If you are fortunate you may even have the opportunity to watch a grizzly or two run down from the hills and make a meal of the salmon.
Valdez is most associated with the 1989 oil spill of the Exxon Valdez tanker in the Prince WIlliam Sound nearby. And, as the southern terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, Valdez as a town is quite industrial.
However Valdez does have the quaint look and feel of a quiet Alaska town. And if you venture out to Solomon Gulch you are bound to be impressed by the wildlife. There is a glacier nearby, great for views as well as for camping.
And, fortunately for us, there was a NAPA auto parts store (yes, another breakdown!).
Because Valdez is located on an out and back drive from the main highway in Alaska it is possible (and encouraged) to stop in the town of Palmer on your way to/from Valdez.
Palmer plays host to the Williams Reindeer Farm. Here you can get up close and personal with a few dozen reindeer!
While none of the reindeer we saw seemed to know how to fly, you could definitely hear the click click click for which they are known!
