Zhaori Hot Spring on GREEN ISLAND -ONE of the THREE saltwater hot springs in the world
Just a few snippets of our trip around Green Island! It was truly a beautiful place! The diving spots were supposed to be amazing...we didn't get to go diving, so that is just the best excuse I've got to go back ! The Zhaori Hot Springs were beautiful in the morning, especially when it's 5:30 am and all you want to do is sleep. The warm waters will wake you up!
It's not some mind blowing experience so take it for what it is and enjoy your time at one of the three natural saltwater hot springs on the PLANET!
This used to be called the Asahi Hot Spring during Japanese rule..
The water source of the hot spring comes from the sea and underwater of the island heated by lava. Some pools are warmer than others. If you dig your feet into the rocks you can definitely feel the heat.

Lisong hot springs are the most beautiful in Taiwan without a doubt, and nobody has done them - or the tortuous journey to them - justice with a decent English write-up anywhere. One day I may write a blog and attempt to do just that. For now:
DO: Camp at the bottom of the trail in the little forest clearing above the beach area near the hot springs. Take your rubbish home. Leave a full weekend for the visit if you're coming from Taipei.
DON'T: Assume it will be an easy drive or hike/climb. Seriously.

We continue our tour of Green Island and make a stop at the Zhaori Hot Springs, which is heated by the volcanic lava of Green Island, and one of only three saltwater hot springs in the world along with the springs on Kyushu Island of Japan and Sicily in Italy. Zhaori boasts some of the best spots to enjoy the sunrise and watch the stars while soaking and relaxing in the therapeutic warm water.
Lastly we stop by the famous Brother Story Store to pick up souvenirs of a different kind. Specially made and designed in-house, these cute souvenirs can't be purchased anywhere else in the world. Also, it's adorable iconic character, Brother, has loads of funny statements to make about Taiwan's latest headlines, making a gift that will be remembered!

Taiwan's Green Island attracts thousands each year who are drawn to its beaches and salt water hot springs, but some locals believe the island is haunted. When he hears a tale of buried treasure haunted by headless and dismembered ghosts, blogger and urban explorer Robert Joe (RJ) suspects that something in the past might be causing people to believe the island is haunted, so he travels there to discover the truth. There, he stumbles on a prison complex and the island's history as a penal colony, which leads him back to a dark chapter in Taiwan's history, known as the White Terror.

Bike Trip from Taitung to Kenting in Southern Taiwan
Two buddies and I on a two day, 96 mile bike trip from Taitung to Kenting in Southern Taiwan. The route, which follows the Pacific Ocean and cuts into the mountains, is a beautiful one. None of us had ever done more than 20 miles on the bike at one time, so the route is manageable for anyone who is okay with working hard and taking frequent rest breaks. We went at the end of January, and I personally thought the weather was just about as perfect as it gets. And at 9 US dollars a day for the bike rental, this is an experience you don't want to pass up!
