Las Terranas Town, Samana Province, Dominican Republic - Caribbean island holiday
We are in the town of Las Terrenas located in the Samaná province of the Dominican Republic. This is a walking tour of the town which starts on the Las Terranas main road and also includes a walk on the beach road. We where there in December and this is actually New Year (31/12). The video follows our walk up the main road where we try to give the viewer an idea of the atmosphere of this rather small Caribbean island fishing town.
The main road offers tourists a limited number of shops, restaurants and excursion sale agents. On the beach road there are a few more restaurants and bars and also a very limited local shopping center. As tourists who enjoy visiting local towns in the destinations we visit we where rather disappointed with the Town of Las Terranas. Our opinion (just our opinion) was that the town lacked the local (Dominican) business and culinary experiences that you for example meet in Asia. Street kitchens etc. although local art was very abundant!! The Les Terranas area is full of hotels catering to all needs. Many of the hotels are big all inclusive resorts which are very popular with Canadian and American tourists, also the European charter tourists who typically seem to stay at these resorts for 14 days (just as we ourselves did).
Wiki writes about Las Terrenas, It is internationally known for its high rate of tourism and its white sand beaches and clear waters. Among the most frequented places visitors are mostly European nationality Spanish, Italian, French and German. One of the best known people or community in the town, is the village of fishermen. Its name comes from the town was formerly mainly inhabited by fishermen. Among the best known beaches are beach poppy tip and whales. The attractions of this region is constantly growing due to investment in tourist buildings like hotels, clubs, restaurants and shopping such places as Port Plaza las Terrenas, with a similar architecture of a boat. In the evenings entertainment centers are crowded by hundreds of tourists and like their restaurants with a wonderful view of the beach...

The western three-eighths of the island is occupied by the nation of Haiti, making Hispaniola one of two Caribbean islands, along with Saint Martin, that are shared by two countries. Both by area and population, the Dominican Republic is the second-largest Caribbean nation (after Cuba), with 48,445 square kilometres (18,705 sq mi) and nearly 10 million people, one million of which live in the capital city, Santo Domingo..

OUR HOTEL IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC & WHAT DOES IT COST?
We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo. Visit Tripadvisor to view photos, read reviews and see WHAT THIS HOTEL COSTS (the following link is an Advertisement link which will take you to the TripAdvisor site)
Even though we had paid for a Junior Suite Superior room we were upgraded to a Junior Suite Club Golden. The only difference between the two suite types are the few extra services and the location of the rooms. Even though we were upgraded to the Junior Suite Club Golden room we did not get upgraded for the benefits (there were not many). The video starts with us walking on the path up to our room on the 1st floor (2nd floor USA), we then enter the room and turn into the marble tiled bathroom where we show the viewer the jacuzzi bath, amenities, toilet and separate shower. We then enter the main room again where we show the layout of the room which includes a look at the coffee and tea making equipment, a view of the satellite channels television, a view of the king sized bed with a ceiling fan turning above it, a look into the complimentary mini-bar, the luggage rack, the small dining lounge and the day bed. We then walk out on the balcony and show the room from the balcony and also a view from the ground looking up to our balcony. The balcony offers two chairs and a little table, if guests want to spend time there. We then proceed back into the room and have a look at the clothes cupboards and the small safe that this hotel charges 4 Dollars per day to use (a very poor 5 star hotel service!!). Hotel guests visiting the Gran Bahia Principe El Portill all-inclusive Resort can choose to stay in 5 types of rooms / suite, they are the Family Junior Suite, Family Master Suite, Standard, Junior Suite Superior and Junior Suite Club Golden.
If you have any questions about rooms at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portill all-inclusive resort leave a comment and we will be happy to try and answer any queries.

Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort - Walk from hotel lobby to beach
This is a walking tour from the main lobby to the beach at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort located in Las Terrenas, Samaná Province on the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic. Our walk starts close to the hotel main lobby area which is also the main entrance and parking area. As we started walking on the path leading to the beach the view should immediately get a sense of how beautifully this resorts gardens are kept (palm trees and banana palms are abundant everywhere).
The buildings viewed on the way to the beach are mainly the Gold bracelet guests hotel suites (villas 2, 3 and 4) conveniently located close to the restaurants, bars and the beach. Next we view the travel agents building, where charter holiday guests can meet their tour operators or visit the office an read messages regarding departure times of buses and airplanes etc. Next we find ourselves standing in front of the road to Villas 1 and 2, where after we turn towards the main lobby building again and get a view of the lobby bar called the Daiquiri Bar a lovely place to sit at all hours of the day to have a coffee, drink or cocktail. This area is also where the main breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet restaurant called Las Dalias is located. We then start to approach the main swimming pool and the games area for Pétanque and Shuffle Board. After viewing the pool on the right we get a glimpse of the Las Olas Beach Buffet Restaurant (they call it a snack bar, but it is allot more than that!). After passing the Pétanque and Shuffleboard area we find ourselves in front of the resorts Jacuzzi, which we go and have a look at also. After viewing the Jacuzzi we pass the small shop cart (that sells sun tan cream, beach ball, beach tennis equipment etc.) have another proper look at the pool before moving over to the children´s playing area where the two table tennis (ping pong tables are located). We then pass the beach towel building which also houses very clean male and female lavatories before passing though the pool table and Foosball table area. As we get closer to the beach viewers will notice how much shade is provided by the surrounding trees, very practical to move your sunbed under if the sun should get too hot. Finally before arriving on the beach we pass (and do a round) of the beach bar where the personal are always friendly and ready to serve! Welcome to the Caribbean.
