Sammilan Shetty's Butterfly Park Belvai (The Paradise of Winged Jewels)
Sammilan Shetty's Butterfly Park in Belvai village is a 7.35 acres of beautiful land, located in the foot of Kanthavara forest in between the two famous towns Moodabidri and Karkala on National Highway 13. The place being found in the admist of Western Ghats hosts more than 100 species of butterflies, including some of the most dazzling butterflies of the world, also some of which, are endemic.
This Butterfly Park would be open to Public from August 2013, on every Sunday.

This private nature reserve, spread over 7.35 acres of semi-forest land, located in Belvai Village in Mangalore, houses interesting butterfly species like Malabar Banded Peacock (Papilio buddha), Southern Birdwing (Troides minos), Autumn leaf (Doleschallia bisaltide), Clipper(Parthenos sylvia), Tawny Rajah(Charaxes psaphon), Paris Peacock (Papilio paris), Redspot Duke (Dophla evelina), Blue Oakleaf (Kallima horsfieldii) and others. Sammilan Shetty, the owner of a butterfly park, is a nature lover whose mission is to conserve the world's butterfly diversity. In this talk, he demonstrates their life cycle with colorful videos captured in his own park -- and shares the ins-and-outs of different butterfly varieties.
Sammilan Shetty is a full time butterfly conservationist and an amateur wildlife photographer. Born on May 23, 1985 in a village named Belvai in Mangalore; growing up in a village like Belvai had a great influence in his life -- having spent most of his free time during childhood days roaming in the paddy fields and forests near his home: observing birds, catching fishes.
He enjoys almost all living creatures that he comes across, whether an arthropod or a mollusk or an annelid. His special interest for butterflies developed in college and he has been keenly observing these winged beauties ever since.
