TAKAYAMA: Ryokan, Yukata e Onsen (4° giorno in Giappone)

MORE ABOUT OSAKA:
???? Osaka 360° ( 大阪市 360° )
------------------------------
Osaka (大阪市 Ōsaka-shi) (Japanese pronunciation: [oːsaka]; listen (help·info)) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants.
- HEIAN TO EDO PERIOD
In 1496, Jōdo Shinshū Buddhists established their headquarters in the heavily fortified Ishiyama Hongan-ji, located directly on the site of the old Naniwa Imperial Palace. Oda Nobunaga began a decade-long siege campaign on the temple in 1570 which ultimately resulted in the surrender of the monks and subsequent razing of the temple. Toyotomi Hideyoshi constructed Osaka Castle in its place in 1583.
Osaka residents were stereotyped in Edo literature from at least the 18th century. Jippensha Ikku in 1802 depicted Osakans as stingy almost beyond belief. In 1809, the derogatory term Kamigata zeeroku was used by Edo residents to characterize inhabitants of the Osaka region in terms of calculation, shrewdness, lack of civic spirit, and the vulgarity of Osaka dialect. Edo writers aspired to samurai culture, and saw themselves as poor but generous, chaste, and public spirited. Edo writers by contrast saw zeeroku as obsequious apprentices, stingy, greedy, gluttonous, and lewd. To some degree, Osaka residents are still stigmatized by Tokyo observers in the same way today, especially in terms of gluttony, evidenced in the phrase, Residents of Osaka devour their food until they collapse (大阪は食倒れ Ōsaka wa kuidaore).
- PRESENT DAYS
The modern municipality was established in 1889 by government ordinance, with an initial area of 15 square kilometres (6 sq mi), overlapping today's Chūō and Nishi wards. Later, the city went through three major expansions to reach its current size of 223 square kilometres (86 sq mi). Osaka was the industrial center most clearly defined in the development of capitalism in Japan. It became known as the Manchester of the Orient.
Like its European and American counterparts, Osaka displayed slums, unemployment, and poverty. In Japan it was here that municipal government first introduced a comprehensive system of poverty relief, copied in part from British models. Osaka policymakers stressed the importance of family formation and mutual assistance as the best way to combat poverty. This minimized the cost of welfare programs.
During World War II, Osaka came under air attacks in 1945 by the United States Army Air Forces as part of the air raids on Japan. On March 13, 1945, a total of 329 Boeing B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers took part in the raid against Osaka. According to an American prisoner of war who was held in the city, the air raid took almost the entire night and destroyed 25 square miles (65 km2) of the city. The U.S. bombed the city again twice in June 1945 and again on August 14, a day before Japan's surrender.

Japanese Kimono Folding Instructions | Itchiku Kubota Art Museum
The Itchiku Kubota art museum has created an instructional video showing how Japanese kimonos are folded, wrapped and stored to help care for your kimonos. The Japanese kimono is one of the world's instantly recognisable traditional garments. The word kimono literally means clothing, and up until the mid 19th century it was the form of dress worn by everyone in Japan.
Please prepare
- A clean blue tarpaulin sheet
- 3-4 large sheets of paper
2 people are required
- Please wear white overalls, masks & gloves
Kimono folding instructions:
Place the kimono on the paper and turn it upside down with inner side facing up, ensuring the fabric is not wrinkled.
Fold shitamae, the inner layer with the seal, along the line of migoro. Then fold uwamae, the outer layer without the seal, along the line of the migoro. Check for wrinkles.
Fold the sleeves, first the right and then the left. Make sure to fold straight by placing them along the lines of migoro to make a perfect triangle.
Place the yellow liner in the center of the kimono. Fold the bottom of the sleeves first, then hold the hem of the kimono and fold in half. Make sure that the hem covers the collar part.
Place the grey liner in the 1/3 of the folded kimono and fold it in three.
Kimono wrapping instructions:
Lay down the Ukon, the yellow wrapping cloth. Turn over the folded kimono, place it slightly above the center of the cloth and wrap it in the Ukon.
Kimono storage:
- Please store your kimono in paulownia boxes

Viaggio in Giappone - Kanazawa - maggio 2016
Resoconto del nostro viaggio in Giappone a maggio 2017.
Settimo giorno.

Archaeological dig at Tsutsujigasaki Yakata (Takeda Shrine), Kõfu, Yamanashi, Japan
Archaeological dig at the west kuruwa (bailey) of the former Tsutsujigasaki Yakata (palace) of the Takeda clan in Kõfu, Yamanashi Prefecture Japan.
Originally built in 1519 by Takeda Nobutora - the father of Takeda Shingen, the Tsutsujigasaki Yakata was the home and headquarters for three generations of the Takeda clan - Takeda Nobutora, Takeda Shingen, and Takeda Katsuyori.
The palace fell into ruin following the defeat of the Takeda clan during the late Sengoku era. During the Tokugawa period (1600-1868) it is recorded that virtually nothing remained apart from some of the moats and stone walls.
During the Meiji period castles were ordered to be demolished, this saw the few remaining walls being either buried or the stones carted off to build government roads and the moats being filled in.
A visit by the Emperor Meiji in 1880 inspired the locals of Yamanashi to build a shrine on the site dedicated to the memory of those who had fought on the side of the loyalists in the Boshin war (1868-69).
In 1915 the Emperor Taishõ commissioned the Takeda shrine in honour of the great warlord Takeda Shingen. The shrine was completed in 1919.
Currently the archaeological digs have revealed a part of the western kuruwa (bailey) and its surrounding moat. The site was a very well fortified palace, if not a castle. It consisted of a number of baileys as would be found in a castle of the era, surrounded by wide defensive moats.
A number of walls and entrances are being slowly uncovered and rebuilt following diagrams and drawings of the era based on the archaeological dig. Aerial photography and radar equipment has allowed the outline of the palace site to be distinguished and the placement of original buildings to be determined.
A number of artefacts have been found and are on display in a temporary hut nearby. (I wasn't allowed to film those).
