Vasco Da Gama Tomb, Cochin
When Vasco Da Gama died at Cochin (Kochi) in Southwest India in 1524, he was buried at the St Francis Church. At that time the church was called St Anthony's. In 1538 Vasco Da Gama's remains were taken first to Goa and then to Portugal. The final resting place of Vasco Da Gama is a tomb at the Jeronimos Monastery at Belem, beside the River Tagus at Lisbon.
Vasco da Gama, who discovered the sea route from Europe to India, landed at Kappad near Kozhikode (Calicut) in 1498. Vasco da Gama was followed by Pedro Álvares Cabral and Afonso de Albuquerque. They built a fort at Kochi with permission from the Raja of Cochin. Within the fort, they built a church with a wooden structure, which was dedicated to St. Bartholomew. The neighbourhood is now known as Fort Kochi.

St. Mary's Islands, Udupi
St. Mary's Isles are a group of small islands lying a little to the north of the port of Malpe 7 km form Udupi. Vasco-da-Gama landed in 1498 on one of these islands which he called `EI Padron de Santa Maria'. It is from this that these islands got their present name. They are just a few scattered projections of rock rising out of the western or Arabian Sea around Malpe.
St. Marry's Island, the northern-most island is about a square mile in area and not more than 250 yards in width. It has coconut gardens which make it the shadiest of all the islands and give it a true South Sea colour. The island is noted for its famous basalt rocks which Kulkunda, where a large cattle fair is held at the time of the have crystallized into columns and split into hexagonal mosaic. Perhaps, this is the only spot in India where basaltic rocks show up such peculiar formation.
It is a really geological monument and tourists heaven.

Geographical discoveries
The Geographical Discoveries of the 15th and 16th centuries constitute an important chapter in the history of the modern world. It is also known as the Age of Discovery. The new sea routes to the East as well as the discovery of new continents like the America radically transformed the course of history. The adventurous spirit of the sailors like Bartholomew Diaz, Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan ultimately led to these historic discoveries.
Causes for the Geographical Discoveries
In 1453, the Ottoman Turks captured Constantinople, the important trade route to the East. Thus, the Turks began to control the European trade with the East. They imposed heavy duties on the goods. On the other hand, the Arab traders continued their trade through the Coasts of India and got huge profits in spice trade. Therefore, the Europeans were forced to find an alternative route to the East.
The art of ship-building developed along with the invention of Mariner's Compass. The astronomical and other scientific discoveries raised the hope of the adventurers to explore new sea routes.
The travel accounts of Marco Polo and Nicolo Polo about China and India kindled great enthusiasm among the Europeans about the fabulous wealth of the Eastern countries.
Portugal
The first great wave of expeditions was launched by Portugal. Its ruler was Henry (1394-1460) generally known as 'the Navigator'. As a result of his efforts, the Madeira and Azores Islands were discovered.
The main project of Henry the Navigator was the exploration of the West Coast of Africa. His sailors discovered the Cape Verde Islands.
In 1487 Bartholomew Diaz reached the southern tip of Africa and called it 'the Cape of Storms' due to a terrible storm he experienced there. Later it was renamed as 'the Cape of Good Hope' because it provided hope that access to the Indian Ocean was possible.
Vasco da Gama successfully used this route and reached India in 1498. Vasco da Gama's discovery of a new sea-route to India was a most significant event in the history of Europe and Asia.
Spain
Next to Portugal, Spain began to explore the sea route to the east. Christopher Columbus, a Genoese sailor, planned to discover a new sea route to the East by traveling westwards.
After securing monetary assistance from King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain, he set sail on August 3, 1492 across the Atlantic. After a long and difficult voyage he reached an island of the Bahamas on Oct 12, 1492. He thought that he had reached the shores of India. Therefore, he called COLOUMBUS the natives of that island Indians. He made three more voyages and explored the islands in the Caribbean Sea and Central America. These islands are even today called as the West Indies.
Later in 1501, Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian navigator, with the support of the king of Spain explored the areas of South America. He came to the conclusion that what Columbus discovered was not India but a 'New World'. Therefore the new continent was named as America. However, Columbus is considered as the discoverer of America.
Spain planned to reach the east by sailing westwards. On August 10, 1519, Ferdinand Magellan had sailed with five Spanish ships - namely, Trinidad, San Antonio, Concepcion, Victoria, and Santiago - from the port of Sevilla. The fleet of Magellan crossed an arduous 373-mile long passage on the southern end of South America. This strait is now named the Strait of Magellan. Then he entered an ocean which was calmer than the Atlantic. Therefore, he named it the Pacific Ocean. While crossing the Pacific, the sailors suffered for want of food and drinking-water.
At last, on March 6, 1521, they reached the Philippines, where Magellan was killed by the natives. The survivors with the only remaining ship, the Victoria arrived at Sevilla through the Cape of Good Hope on September 9, 1522. It was the first voyage undertaken round the world.
Vasco da Gama
Dom Vasco da Gama, 1st Count of Vidigueira, (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈvaʃku ðɐ ˈɣɐmɐ]) (c. 1460s -- 23 December 1524) was a Portuguese explorer. He is one of the most famous and celebrated explorers from the Age of Discovery, being the first European to reach India by sea. This discovery was significant and paved the way for the Portuguese to establish a long-lasting colonial empire in Asia. The route meant that the Portuguese would not need to cross the highly disputed Mediterranean nor the dangerous Arabian Peninsula, and that the whole voyage would be made by sea.
After decades of sailors trying to reach India with thousands of lives and dozens of vessels lost in shipwrecks and attacks, Gama landed in Calicut on 20 May 1498. Reaching the legendary Indian spice routes unopposed helped the Portuguese Empire improve its economy that, until Gama, was mainly based on trades along Northern and coastal West Africa. These spices were mostly pepper and cinnamon at first, but soon included other products, all new to Europe which led to a commercial monopoly for several decades.

Incredible Beaches in Goa
Goa is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. Located in West India in the region known as the Konkan, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Goa is India's richest state with a GDP per capita two and a half times that of the country as a whole. It was ranked the best placed state by the Eleventh Finance Commission for its infrastructure and ranked on top for the best quality of life in India by the National Commission on Population based on the 12 Indicators.
Panaji is the state's capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city. The historic city of Margao still exhibits the cultural influence of the Portuguese, who first landed in the early 16th century as merchants and conquered it soon thereafter. Goa is a former Portuguese province; the Portuguese overseas territory of Portuguese India existed for about 450 years until it was annexed by India in 1961.
Renowned for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture, Goa is visited by large numbers of international and domestic tourists each year. It also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.

MAGELLAN'S VOYAGE HISTORY, ANIMATION ON A MAP
MAGELLAN'S VOYAGE
Trying to prove for Spain that many of the islands of the Far East, including the Maoluccas layed in Spains territory. Magellan set sail from Sanclucar be Barrameda in September 20, 1519, with a crew of about 250-270 men on five different ships, called the Trinidad, the San Antonio, the Concepcion, the Victoria, and the Santiago. He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to the Canary Islands, where they decided to set sail for Brazil. A mutiny occurred on the ship which was led by Cartegena, which later was relived from his command of the San Antonio and held prisoner at the Victoria. On December 6 they saw Brazil, and on December 13, they reached the Bay of Rio de Janeiro where they stopped for a rest. The ships through the Straight
On October 21, 1520, they reached a straight that had troubled waters, which was to be later named after him. For 38 days, they struggled trying to get through. In the process, the captain of the San Antonio deserted and returned to Spain with the ship. Finally they broke through and arrived to a calm open water ocean which Magellan named the Pacific. With three ships left, the Trinidad, the Victoria, and the Concepcion, they were ready to go and visit Moluccas or the Spice Islands.
The Philippine IslandsMagellan knew nothing of this ocean, for he said diagonally across to look for nearby land. He thought it would take him only about three days to get to the Spice Islands. But boy, was he wrong. They sailed for three months and 20 days without fresh food until they finally reached Guam in March 6, 1521. Though they obtained food and provisions, many of the men suffered scurvy without the benefit of vitamin C, and were still starving. But Magellan decided to sail to the Philippines. When her arrived there, he made an alliance with the ruler of Cebu (one of Philippines many islands) and persuaded him to accept Christianity. But Magellan and his crew got involved in a war with the neighboring island of Cebu, Mactan. This involvement in this conflict led to a victory for Cebu, but a death for Magellan who was killed by the Mactan ruler, Lapu Lapu on April 27, 1521.

It includes an Old Testament & a New Testament. You can get one at most bookstores for a few dollars. Or you can get one at some churches, often times for free. Or you can message me here on youtube & I will send you one for free. 3rd, find a church. I encourage you to find a church that supports traditional values (ie one man + one woman = marriage; & also defends unborn life and is against abortion). Don't settle for the 1st church you find. I encourage you to try to find one that has solid Biblical teaching, with a pastor who cares about people, and a congregation that genuinely wants to help new members become a part of the Body of Christ (another name for the worldwide Christian church is the Body of Christ) ...; those are a few basic starting steps for becoming a Christian. And remember, sometimes life becomes more difficult as a Christian, but don't give up...hang in there...God will never push you beyond what you can handle. Trust Him. It's worth it. SUMMARY
=======
Ferdinand Magellan ( or ; Portuguese: Fernão de Magalhães, IPA: [fɨɾˈnɐ̃w dɨ mɐɣɐˈʎɐ̃jʃ]; Spanish: Fernando de Magallanes, IPA: [feɾˈnando ðe maɣaˈʎanes]; c. 1480 – 27 April 1521) was a Portuguese explorer who organised the Spanish expedition to the East Indies from 1519 to 1522, resulting in the first circumnavigation of the Earth, completed by Juan Sebastián Elcano.
Born into a Portuguese noble family in around 1480, Magellan became a skilled sailor and naval officer and was eventually selected by King Charles I of Spain to search for a westward route to the Maluku Islands (the Spice Islands). Commanding a fleet of five vessels, he headed south through the Atlantic Ocean to Patagonia, passing through the Strait of Magellan into a body of water he named the peaceful sea (the modern Pacific Ocean). Despite a series of storms and mutinies, the expedition reached the Spice Islands in 1521 and returned home via the Indian Ocean to complete the first circuit of the globe. Magellan did not complete the entire voyage, as he was killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines in 1521. His gift, the Santo Niño de Cebú image, remains one of his legacies during his arrival.
Magellan had already reached the Malay Archipelago in Southeast Asia on previous voyages traveling east (from 1505 to 1511–1512). By visiting this area again but now travelling west, Magellan achieved a nearly complete personal circumnavigation of the globe for the first time in history. The Magellanic penguin is named after him, as he was the first European to note it. Magellan's navigational skills have also been acknowledged in the naming of objects associated with the stars, including the Magellanic Clouds, now known to be two nearby dwarf galaxies; the twin lunar craters of Magelhaens and Magelhaens A; and the Martian crater of Magelhaens.

The rarely, if ever, told story of Japanese sold as slaves by Portuguese traders
BY MICHAEL HOFFMAN
MAY 26, 2013
PORTUGUESE COLONIALISM AND JAPANESE SLAVES, by Michio Kitahara. Kadensha, 2013, 69 pp., ¥1,785 (hardcover)
The subject of this slim volume is a series of events that are essential in understanding Japanese history — events totally unknown, incredible, and unpleasant to read.
The nub of scholar Michio Kitahara's revelation is that throughout the latter half of the 16th century and into the 17th, Portuguese traders sold Japanese as slaves overseas, so that toward the end of the 16th century, a large number of Japanese were in several parts of Asia … They were found in the regions where Portugal was dominant as a colonial power, such as India, southeast Asia, and southern China, particularly in Macao, around the Strait of Malacca and in Goa, India.
Totally unknown, says Kitahara. That is clearly an exaggeration, for in support of his thesis he cites numerous written sources, official and scholarly, contemporary and modern, which others beside himself must have read. But this much at least is true: You can read a lot of Japanese history without ever coming across mention of a systematic international trade in Japanese slaves. Why should this be? Assuming it is a fact, it is shocking, illuminating and, Kitahara argues, enormously consequential. Nor — unlike, say, Japanese wartime atrocities — would it be in anyone's interest to cover it up. Why isn't it common knowledge?
Kitahara suggests no answer and I have no idea, so let's proceed to the paper's arguments. (Paper, incidentally, is the right word. The English text, which accompanies the Japanese original, runs to 21 pages.)
Japan first met Europe in 1543, when a storm blew a Chinese ship with Portuguese traders on board to the outlying island of Tanegashima, in Kagoshima Prefecture. Two revolutionary novelties accruing to Japan from that chance encounter are well known — firearms and Christianity. A third, says Kitahara, was the slave trade. Before long Japanese slaves were being bought and sold not only throughout Asia but as far afield as Portugal and Argentina.
Some slaves were captives in Japan's eternal civil wars, sold by their Japanese captors to Portuguese traders. Others sold themselves or their children into slavery to escape crushing poverty. Still others were sold by feudal lords to finance a new craving — for gunpowder.
Portuguese authorities — royal, bureaucratic and religious — were uncomfortable with this traffic. It brought Portugal and Christianity into low repute, damping the potential for trade and religious conversion. There were fitful efforts to stop it. But Portuguese merchants carried the day with a protest: We have spent one million cruzeiros or more over the years to purchase slaves … Therefore, we cannot accept that the King revokes this right and deprives us of the slaves we have already purchased. The king yielded.
Not so Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He was Japan's supreme warlord at the end of the 16th century. This is unbearable to me, he said in 1587 upon learning from one of his officials that the Portuguese buy hundreds of Japanese men and women. Their hands and feet are chained, and they are driven into the bottom of the ships. This is far beyond the punishment in Hell …
The aftermath is well known, though slavery is rarely cited among the causes: foreigners were expelled, Christianity was ferociously uprooted and Japan, in self-imposed, rigidly enforced isolation for 250 years, embarked on a course of cultural and political development quite unique in the annals of world history.
