Malta Trek - Haz-Zabbar to Zonqor, Marsascala - June 2018
Hiking from Haz-Zabbar to Zonqor on the ridge through the area known as San Leonardu and returning along the coast via Xghajra. We pass by the ruins of the building called id-Dar tal-Barunissa (also popularly known as id-Dar tas-Soru) [1:20] where a chapel dedicated to St. Leonard once stood (1656). We also pass by the chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas (1795) [3:58], Fort San Leonardo (1878) [3:06] and numerous World War II gunposts that attest to the strategic importance of this ridge in the defense of Malta from attack from the north. We then descend to the coast and return to Haz-Zabbar via Xghajra. On the way back we again pass by numerous gunposts that dot the coast and one of Grand Master De Redin's coastal watchtowers known as ta' Triq il-Wiesgha (1659) [5:57].
The Spanish Navy Santa Maria-class frigate SPS Victoria (F82) heads towards Grand Harbour at 10:21.
Music by Jesse Cook: 'Canción Triste' and 'Breathing Below Surface' from the album Vertigo.

Every year the feast of St Joseph is celebrated at Rabat, Malta. We're showing photos mostly taken in 2007 by my wife Jasmine and some photos we also borrowed from Festa San Guzepp Rabat tal-Imdina facebook albums. Procession is held at the Church of Ta' Giezu, Rabat.
The hymn you hear is Lil Ġużeppi ejjew Faħħru (Let's praise Joseph) and was composed by the famous Maltese composer Carlo Diacono with lyrics by Anastasio Cuschieri and played by the L'Isle Adam Band of Rabat.

My Choice - Siggiewi: Roses from the South
Roses from the South by Johann Strauss II, played by André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra. We tour the village of Siggiewi and vicinity in Malta. We will also have a quick look at the Providenza Chapel and the Laferla Cross just outside Siggiewi. All photos by Choy Hong (Jasmine) Grech.
Rosen aus dem Süden (Roses from the South), Op. 388, is a waltz medley composed by Johann Strauss II in 1880 with its themes drawn from the operetta Das Spitzentuch der Königin (The Queen's Lace Handkerchief) inspired by a novel by Heinrich Bohrmann-Riegen.
The waltz ranks among the Waltz King's magnificent works and is still regularly performed today at the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert. The general mood of the piece is rather pensive but the final moments of the piece are utter joy and sparkling with Strauss happier tunes.
Siġġiewi (or Città Ferdinand) is a village in the central western part of Malta. It is situated on a plateau, a few kilometres away from Mdina, the ancient capital city of Malta, and 10 kilometres away from Valletta, the contemporary capital. It is the home of 9000 inhabitants who, up to several decades ago, worked mostly in the fields which surround the village.
Siġġiewi was already established in the 14th century. In 1797, after a formal request by Don Salvatore Curso, on behalf of his parishioners, Grand Master Ferdinand Von Hompesch instituted the village as a city calling it after his name, Città Ferdinand.
The baroque parish church, dedicated to St Nicholas of Bari, was erected by the villagers who raised the necessary funds between the years 1676 to 1693. It was designed by the Maltese architect, Lorenzo Gafà but underwent some changes throughout the years. The portico and naves were added by Professor Nicola Żammit in the latter half of the 19th century.
The ruins of the former parish church, dedicated to St Nicholas of Bari are still visible today. Lately, great restoration works have been carried out and retrieved its old glory.
