Sancreed Church
Sancreed Church is a parish church dedicated to St Creden in the village of Sancreed, Near Penzance in Penwith, Cornwall.
The church dates mainly from the 13th and 15th centuries with the tower dating from the late 14th to early 15th century. The church was restored in 1881 and then again in 2017.
Some crosses can be found in the churchyard, one (the tallest) is inscribed with patterns and was re-erected in the restorations of 2017 after it was in loose ground and slightly leaning. These crosses date from long before the church and show that this has been an important site for well over a millennia.
The church is built out of Granite and, inside, the church has some absolutely stunning carvings in wood and an equally stunning stained glass window. Other things of interest in the church are the font with carved faces in it and the almost definitely Victorian (although there's no official dating) Positive Organ.
Sancreed holywell,West Penwith
Marked on map with chapel, west of church up a little path, all signed. Dedicated to St Credan, a Irishman, who became a swineherd after accidentally killing his father. Died in 580AD, also dediacted at Creed nr Grampound. Many Celtic crosses in churchyard. It was 'a cold and frosty morning' on my visit... Just how I like it!
Sancreed Holy Well & Ancient Chapel
Sancreed Holy Well is down a path which is opposite to Sancreed church.
The well is Pagan and is from before Christianity was around. It got lost for hundreds of years under thickets until it was found by the vicar in the 19th century. Juliette Shanks, from Sancreed, looked after the well. She now has a plaque.
There is also a lot of ionizing radiation in the well. This is because of the granite. The water is also quite deep and is deeper than most holy wells.
People still come to the well sometimes to perform rituals. They will bath in the well and then pull of some of their shirt and hang it on the tree (but most of the bits of clothes on the tree are bought there by people who are just visiting).
Next to the well is a chapel. Inside the chapel there is a 15th century carved stone. The chapel is a small rectangle building that is ruined.
The Celtic Cross was put there in 1910.

Sancreed Well Radiation
The high radiation coming from Sancreed Holy Well in Cornwall, a well famous for having a very high above background level of radiation.
The geiger counter was showing large and even dangerous (although it wouldn't hurt you unless you were actually living in the well) levels of radiation.
This high count is because Sancreed Well is a granite chamber with only one entrance. The steep steps make the well almost enclosed.
Many ancient sites in Penwith, especially the fogous, have a high radiation count. It's possible that these sites were purposely built in a place with a high radiation count, perhaps to give some sort of effect.

A misty day in Sancreed - Cornwall Beauty
A visual journey through the village of Sancreed near Penzance in Cornwall, on a misty February sunday afternoon
St Nectan' Glen & Trethevy Holywell, nr Tintagel
Trethevy Holywell, turning right off the main road from Tintagel to Boscastle at Trethevy, just a little way up the lane that leads to St Nectans glen and kieve, opposite the mission church of St Perran (that was a barn and a chapel before that). The well has no dedication that's known, though there once was a number of chapels in the area. The well building is old, there's a hand pump on the back of it but the water is now pumped to the adjoining property electronically. There is no parish to St Nectan/Necton/Nighton in Cornwall, his monastery being at Hartland, Devon. The eldest child of Brychan of Brecon, Wales, he was martyred by two thieves who had robbed his cow. he was beheaded but then carried his head(Cephalophore) to the nearest well where a chapel was then built. he is said to be buried under the most beautiful waterfall imaginable at St Nectans kieve further along this lane. Well worth a visit,,, gotta pay to get in, though, it will leave you speechless and a memory you'll take to the grave! The river flows down to the sea via Rocky valley, another spectacle of the north coast of Cornwall... Look out for the Neolithic carving of a labyrinth on the cliff next to the ruined mill.

The event was a joint venture by Transition Penwith and the Plan-it Earth Environmental Education Project and was held at Plan-it Earths Chy Ena site at Sancreed near Penzance. Over 1,000 visitors - 5% of the population of Penzance - arrived to see how local organisations and businesses are working together to reduce the impacts of climate change and fossil fuel depletion in an enjoyable and informative way.

St Just is a town and civil parish in the Penwith district of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It lies along the B3306 road which connects St Ives to the A30 road. The parish encompasses the town of St Just and the nearby settlements of Trewellard, Pendeen and Kelynack: it is bounded by the parishes of Morvah to the north-east, Sancreed and Madron to the east, St Buryan and Sennen to the south and by the sea in the west.
The town of St Just is the most westerly town in mainland Britain and is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of Penzance along the A3071. St Just parish, which includes Pendeen and the surrounding area. St Just lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park. St Just is one of only two towns included within the Cornwall AONB.
The identity of Saint Just is not known. Cornwall's long resistance to the edicts of Canterbury and Rome makes it most unlikely that the saint was Archbishop Justus of Canterbury, as some sources claim.[citation needed] Another possibility is the 6th- or 7th-century Saint Iestyn, said to be the son of a ruler of Dumnonia.
Among the prehistoric antiquities nearby is Ballowall Barrow, a chambered tomb. St Just is one of the most ancient mining districts in Cornwall, and remains of ancient pre-industrial and more modern mining activity have had a considerable impact on the nearby landscape.
The parish church of St Just is a fine 15th-century building. In 1336 the church was rebuilt and dedicated by John Grandisson, Bishop of Exeter; however only the chancel of this church survives and the nave and aisles are 15th-century in date. There are two Methodist chapels. St Just is the home of Cape Cornwall School which also serves Sennen, Sancreed, Pendeen, St Buryan and other places in the district.
St Just is home to the popular Lafrowda festival a seven-day community and arts celebration usually held in Mid July. A more ancient celebration associated with the town is St Just Feast which is held every year to celebrate the dedication of the parish church in 13 July 1336. Feast celebrations were moved to the Sunday nearest to All Saints' Day in 1536 following an Act of Henry VIII which means it usually take place at the end of October / beginning of November. Feast itself is a two-day event with a church service and civic procession being held on Feast Sunday and a larger scale popular celebration being held on Feast Monday (which includes a meeting of the Western Hunt). St Just also has a 'Plen an Gwarry' (Cornish for playing place), locally pronounced 'Plain an Gwarry'. These sites were used historically for open-air performance, entertainment and instruction. St Just's Plen an Gwarry occasionally hosts productions of the Cornish Ordinalia mystery plays. St Just has a healthy artistic scene, including the painter Kurt Jackson who has made several television appearances. Contemporary singer and comedian Jethro from nearby St Buryan played for St Just Rugby Club and has recorded a song entitled St Just.

Carn Euny Ancient Village
Among the best-preserved ancient villages in South West England, Carn Euny was occupied from the Iron Age until late Roman times. It includes the foundations of stone houses from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD, with walls up to a metre high in places. At the heart of the village is its most intriguing feature – a stone-walled underground passage known as a fogou. This mysterious type of Iron Age monument is found only in the far west of Cornwall.

Madron Well
The real Madron Holy Well, found by walking through thick mud. The water where the clouties are is just drainage for the real well and must not be confused with this well.
