Travel Namibia - Sandboarding In Swakopmund
While in Namibia, Sussan Mourad decided to challenge her personal definition of adventure with a sand boarding lesson.
Climbing up the famous dunes of Swakopmund with her instructors (and professional sand boarders) from Hata Angu Cultural Tours, she finds herself just a bit out of her comfort zone.
Watch as Sussan goes from gliding down the bunny slopes to tackling the 'Big Mamma' of the dunes -- and (spoiler alert!) the wipeout that ensues.

Sandboarding, Namibia in Swakopmund
This is one of the better days in my life despite the fact that I smashed my face in pretty good. Day 227 of my life is the day I met Tiffany. ( After skydiving on day 226, I hit the sand dunes of Namibia on day 227 for some serious sandboarding. Now, I'm fairly terrible at sandboarding, but still managed to get up and down the dunes a couple times without crashing. Then, I went headfirst down the sand dune. At top speed, I cruised over a jump in which I grabbed a significant amount of air and smashed my face on the edge of the board. As such, I ended up heading to the hospital for 6 stitches. Totally worth it though, and despite the war wound, it really was an amazing day!

Sandboarding in Swakopmund, Namibia
Sandboarding, the lying down style, reaching speeds up to 80 kph. This is me going down for the first time at about 45 to 50 kph and a second time a little faster and finally the fasted ride of them all.
The fastest ride, called Dizzy, really gave me an adrenaline rush. So much so that I wanted to do that one again, trying to go even faster. Needles to say that went wrong. The board dug itself into the sand at maximum speed and catapulted me into the air. After 5 or 6 salto's I finaly came to a complete stop ... head first into the sand. I had sand coming out of my ears for days.

SWAKOPMUND/NAMIBIA:
SWAKOPMUND is a city on the coast of northwestern Namibia, 280 km (170 mi) west of Windhoek, Namibia's capital. It is the capital of the Erongo administrative district. As a seaside resort, the weather is cooler here in December to January (Namibia's summer months) so the territorial administration moves to Swakopmund for these months. The town has 42,000 inhabitants and covers193 square kilometres (75 sq mi) of land.
Swakopmund is a beach resort and an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South-West Africa, and a sizable part of its population is still German-speaking today.
The city lies on the B2 road and the Trans-Namib Railway from Windhoek to Walvis Bay. It is also home to Swakopmund Airport.
Buildings in the city include the Altes Gefängnis prison, designed by Heinrich Bause in 1909. The Woermannhaus, built in 1906 with a prominent tower, is now a public library.
Attractions in Swakopmund include a Swakopmund Museum, the National Marine Aquarium, a crystal gallery and spectacular sand dunes near Langstrand south of the Swakop River. Outside of the city, the Rossmund Desert Golf Course is one of only 5 all-grass desert golf courses in the world. The city is known for extreme sports. Nearby lies a camel farm and the Martin Luther steam locomotive, dating from 1896 and abandoned in the desert.Wikipedia

1st Day in Swakopmund Namibia. Park at the Beach & Drive to Walvis Bay
In this video the kids are spending the first day at the coast in Swakopmund Namibia. We visit the beach front and the kids get to play on the park in the sand. We then had a walk around. Afterwards, we travelled to Walvis Bay and filmed the sand dunes and Long Beach along the way. We first visited Ryan's cousin and the children got to look around his garden and saw lots of plants which were different than back in England.
Next the the kids climb one of the biggest sand dunes in the world!
