This January we visited the Maolin National Scenic Area in southern Taiwan. We spent the first day in Majia Township, visiting an indigenous food shop, the Majia Visitor Center, a indigenous culture park, and Rinari Village.

Michella Jade Weng, Presenter:
Hello everyone, and welcome to Sandimen, home of the Paiwan tribe and this beautiful waterfall. It's really lovely, isn't it? And you know what? It's only a ten minute walk from the Majia Visitors Center.
There are three tiers to this waterfall, and this is only the first one! Watching the water cut through rock, flow between them and hearing nothing but the sound of nature, can you believe this is just a few minutes walk from a parking lot?
This is the downtown area of Sandimen, and if you duck into one of the alleys, you'll find yourself in an artsy little neighborhood.
The most popular form of art here is glass beads, an age-old tradition of the Paiwan tribe. There are all kinds of designs - modern, traditional, lavish, simple, and not just in beads. Take these glass figurines of Paiwan tribesmen, for example.
And if you're inclined, there are DIY workshops for visitors to try.

November 20, 2016 Students of CM498 - Cross Culture Management from National Sun Yat-sen University under Dr. Heidi Chang and some students from I-Shou University under Dr. Mojdeh Jamnia went to different villages in Sandimen Township in Pingtung County. This was a one day adventure, and thanks to the village leaders for helping us on this trip!
Some clips are shaky/not stabilized as I just used my smartphone in filming the whole trip. But I still hope you'll enjoy watching the video. :)

The story of PILP G5 - A leadership journey
All about the Pacific Islands Leadership Program with Taiwan (Generation 5) and those who will shape the futures of the Pacific.
The Pacific is waking up and the future leaders of the region are all ready to take over. Some of them, 122 to be exact, have been trained since 2013 at the East West Center in Taiwan, under fundings from the government of Taiwan. The energy of these leaders, their visions and motivation to create a better future for the region is a big inspiration.
Learn more about what they have learned, what they've lived together and how they plan to impact the Pacific in a positive way.

Aug.17 Typhoon Morakot Special Report - Taoyuan Township
Kaohsiung Countys Taoyuan Township looks nothing like it did before Typhoon Morakot. Ceremony venues are completely buried in mud, and residents are sad at the loss of their homes. They are even more heartbroken because their traditional lifestyle and culture are now at risk.

1600 years ago, the indigenous Paiwan people in southern Taiwan introduced the glass beads to Taiwan. The colorful glass beads are like the fruits of a rich heart。 Taiwan is one of the birthplaces of the South Island community. Departed from Taiwan to the Pacific islands thousands of years ago. In October 2018, a group of Indonesian children came to Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Is Taiwan their new world or hometown? More historical imagination, like colorful glass beads, is more multicultural. I would like to thank Gaoyuan University of Science and Technology's Aboriginal Student Resource Center for providing Paiwan glass beads materials and teachers, so that Indonesian island students from the South have a Taiwanese cultural experience in Taiwan.
