What the Royals REALLY do at a Sandringham Christmas?
Sausages for breakfast, turkey for lunch, a BOAR'S HEAD for dinner... and some posh mints to finish off: What the Royals REALLY get up to at a Sandringham Christmas.
Imagine a quirky Christmas at Downton Abbey. A real fir tree glitters in every room, fires roar and footmen hurry through endless corridors. On the table in the dining room is a spectacular feast – ox tongue, roasted hams and a stuffed boar’s head. The family assembles in the drawing room for pre-dinner Veuve Clicquot and finger-bowls of almonds and cashews. The children are in the nursery – at least until they’re old enough to conduct themselves in the proper manner at the table.

Sandringham - a glimpse of a Royal Home in Norfolk
Sandringham is the Queens private Norfolk home. By Royal standards it is a small but certainly a very livable home filled with some fabulous treasures even things such as the original flag that Sir Peter Scott to to the South Pole.
You can't film in the house although I did make this video of the museum which really shows how the other half used to live in Sandringham. I hope you enjoy it.
Royal family celebrate Christmas in Sandringham
Members of the royal family met with well-wishers as they left the traditional Christmas Day church service at the Queen's Sandringham Estate - although Prince George was left at home.
The Royal family attended a traditional Christmas Day church service at Sandringham this morning.
However, the 3,000 well-wishers gathered outside the church were left disappointed as Prince George, who had travelled with his parents to the Queen's Estate, was left at home for the service.
The Duke of Cambridge told the crowd: We've had a good morning with George and I can't wait until next year when he's bigger.
Cicely Howard, 75, from Great Yarmouth, met the Duchess and asked about the baby. She said: She told me he was having a lovely day but was more interested in the wrapping paper than the presents.
Other members of the Royal party attending the service included Prince Harry, still sporting a beard from his exertions in the Arctic with the charity Walking With the Wounded, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, a heavily pregnant Zara Tindall accompanied by her husband Mike, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Prince Philip, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew.

The Queen and Royal Family arrive at Sandringham
Thousands of well-wishers were treated to the sight of the Royal Family walking to church for the traditional Christmas day service - but the Duchess of Cornwall was missing.
On a cold but sunny day, royal fans caught a glimpse of the Queen and her family as they made their way to the place of worship near the Queen's private home of Sandringham in Norfolk.
But Camilla was not able to attend because she has a bad back, said Clarence House.
Leading the way from Sandringham to St Mary Magdalene church was the Princess Royal, flanked by the Duke of Edinburgh and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. They were followed by the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who were holding hands, and other members of the family.

UK: ROYAL FAMILY CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS AT SANDRINGHAM
English/Nat
The British royal family have celebrated Christmas at Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth II's residence in Norfolk where they made their traditional appearance at the local church service.
A royal biographer says this year has seen pressure on the monarchy increase but Professor Ben Pimlott said he doubted this would result in any radical changes.
It is traditional for members of the British royal family to spend Christmas at Sandringham in the county of Norfolk.
On Christmas morning they always attend a service at the church of Saint Mary Magdeleine - this year was no exception.
More than a thousand Royal fans travelled from miles around to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and other members of Britain's most famous family.
16 of the most senior royals attended.
The Queen, her sister Margaret and the Queen Mother were driven the quarter mile (0.4 km) from the estate to the church.
But the others, braving a cold wind, decided to walk.
The only member missing was Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of the Duke Of York, Prince Andrew.
She has been staying in a lodge in the grounds of the estate.
During the service, which lasted around 45 minutes, the minister, Cannon George Hall, talked of Diana, Princess Of Wales, who was killed in August in a car crash in Paris.
He also asked for prayers for those feeling sadness over her death.
Sandringham, about 100 miles (160 kms) northeast of London, is close to Diana's birthplace at Park House.
Thursday's service was held at the church where she was christened
Professor Ben Pimlott, who has written a biography of the Queen, says the Princess' death will have a lasting impact on the British public's perception of the royals.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Well it's been a very tragic year, clearly, for the whole royal family because of the death of Princess Diana at the end of August. It's also been a year of great pressure on the Queen personally on political grounds because of the reaction and the criticism many people have of the handling of Diana's death and in some ways, the kind of irrational reaction and the feeling that Diana had been against the rest of the royal family.
SUPER CAPTION: Professor Ben Pimlott, Royal Biographer
After the service the royals went on a brief walkabout.
Prince William, looking older than his 15 years, accepted gifts of flowers from well- wishers and admirers.
His 13 year old brother, Harry, was also given presents by the crowd.
The press were kept at a distance during the walkabout.
Professor Pimlott thinks press coverage of the Queen's public engagements may be increasingly restricted following Diana's death and the troubles of her recent trip to India.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I think things have changed, the pressure on the monarchy has increased. But I don't think we will see any huge turn arounds. But I'd be surprised if over the next few months there weren't certain indications of steps that have been taken in a modernising direction. But I don't think the Queen's own personal style will change. What may change is the access of the press to her talking to people when she goes around on her various visits.
SUPER CAPTION: Professor Ben Pimlott, Royal Biographer
The two young princes and their father, Prince Charles, lingered at the church slightly longer than other members of the family.
But eventually they also headed back to the house to join in the Christmas celebrations.
