President Obama Calls For Stricter Gun Laws — Again
On more than a dozen occasions, President Obama has taken to the podium to address mass shootings in the U.S.
This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that's the kind of country we want to be, he said after a gunman killed dozens in an Orlando, Florida, nightclub.
During his first few years in office, Obama's statements stressed prayer and unity.
I would ask all Americans to keep the men and women of Fort Hood in your thoughts and prayers. We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident, he said after a shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.
This is more than a tragedy for those involved. It is a tragedy for Arizona and a tragedy for our entire country. What Americans do in times of tragedy is to come together and support each other. So at this time, I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping all the victims and their families, including Gabby, in our thoughts and prayers, he said after a gunman opened fire at a Tucson, Arizona, grocery store.
I hope all of you will keep the people of Aurora in your hearts and minds today. May the Lord bring them comfort and healing in hard days to come, he said after a deadly shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
But then he started repeating his calls for stricter gun laws.
We're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics, he said after a gunman killed more than a dozen kids at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
We don't have all the facts, but we do know that, once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun. ... At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries, he said following the massacre at a Charleston, South Carolina, church.
There's been another mass shooting in America — this time at a community college in Oregon. ... Each time this happens, I'm going to say that we can actually do something about it, but we're going to have to change our laws, he said after a mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.
As the investigation moves forward, it's going to be important for all of us — including our legislators — to see what we can do to make sure that when individuals decide that they want to do somebody harm, we're making it a little harder for them to do it, he said following the San Bernardino, California, shooting.
On Sunday, as he addressed the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, he said: To actively do nothing is a decision as well.

Trump Impeachment Trial: Q&A begins (Day 8)
With opening arguments wrapped up in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, the next phase begins. For the next two days, senators get to ask questions of both legal teams. During that time, people will be looking for signs of whether enough Republicans will cross the aisle and agree to bring in witnesses -- particularly former national security adviser John Bolton.

Medical marijuana is legal in 20 states and the District of Columbia, but there are still use cases that are very controversial, like medical marijuana for children. Some claim it's a wonder drug for epilepsy, severe autism, and even to quell the harsh side effects of chemotherapy, while others decry pumping marijuana into still-growing bodies. We went to the small town of Pendleton, Oregon, where medical marijuana is legal, to visit Mykayla Comstock, an eight-year-old leukemia patient who takes massive amounts of weed to treat her illness. Her family, and many people we met along the way, believe not only in the palliative aspects of the drug, but also in marijuana's curative effect—that pot can literally shrink tumors.

Sandy Hook Files - Vance 1
Sandy Hook Shooting - Active Shooter Drill
The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, United States, when 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children between six and seven years old, and six adult staff members. Before driving to the school, he shot and killed his mother at their Newtown home. As first responders arrived at the school, Lanza committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
Shortly after 9:35 a.m., using his mother's Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle and ten magazines with 30 rounds each,[5][6][7][8][9] Lanza shot his way through a glass panel next to the locked front entrance doors of the school.[38][39][40][41] He was wearing black clothing, yellow earplugs, sunglasses,[42] and an olive green utility vest.[8] Initial reports that he was wearing body armor were incorrect.[43] Some of those present heard the initial shots on the school intercom system, which was being used for morning announcements.[20]
Lanza then entered a first-grade classroom where Lauren Rousseau, a substitute teacher, had herded her first grade students to the back of the room, and was trying to hide them in a bathroom, when Lanza forced his way into the classroom.[50] Rousseau, Rachel D'Avino (a behavioral therapist who had been employed for a week at the school to work with a special needs student), and fifteen students in Rousseau's class were all killed. Fourteen of the children were dead at the scene; one injured child was taken to a hospital for treatment, but was later declared dead.[47] Most of the teachers and students were found crowded together in the bathroom.[56] A six-year-old girl, the sole survivor, was found by police in the classroom following the shooting.[47] The surviving girl was hidden in one of the corners of the classroom's bathroom during the shooting.[57] The girl's family pastor said that she survived the mass shooting by remaining still, and playing dead. When she reached her mother, she said, Mommy, I'm okay, but all my friends are dead. The child described the shooter as a very angry man.[58][59] A girl hiding in a bathroom with two teachers told police that she heard a boy in the classroom screaming, Help me! I don't want to be here! to which Lanza responded, Well, you're here, followed by more hammering sounds.[60]
The police heard the final shot at 9:40:03 a.m.; they believe that it was Lanza shooting himself in the lower rear portion of his head with the Glock 20SF in classroom 10.[77] Lanza's body was found wearing a pale green pocket vest over a black polo shirt, over a black T-shirt, black sneakers, black fingerless gloves, black socks, and a black canvas belt.[77][78] Other objects found in the vicinity of Lanza include a black boonie hat and thin frame glasses. The Glock was found, apparently jammed, near Lanza, and the rifle was found several feet away from him.[77] A 9 mm SIG Sauer P226, which was not fired during the incident, was found on Lanza's person.[79]
A renewed debate about the effects of violent video games on young people began soon after the shooting due to news reports suggesting Lanza frequently played violent video games.[214][215][216] Wayne LaPierre, CEO and Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association, publicly blamed video games for the shooting, specifically targeting the free online game Kindergarten Killers created by Gary Short.[217]
Police found numerous[218] video games in the basement of Adam Lanza's home, which was used as a gaming area. The final report into the shooting by the State Attorney, published in November 2013, noted that [Lanza] played video games often, both solo at home and online. They could be described as both violent and non-violent. One person described the shooter as spending the majority of his time playing non-violent video games all day, with his favorite at one point being Super Mario Bros.
The report described his liking for Dance Dance Revolution, which he played frequently for hours with an acquaintance at a movie theater in Danbury which had a commercial version of the game, and also played the game at home.[78] Dance Dance Revolution is a non-violent exercising game where the user is required to move their feet rhythmically in response to video cues. According to the Report by the Office of the Child Advocate, Lanza would play the game for hours on end using it as a distraction from his inner turmoil. The report said he would whip himself into a frenzy, a behavior consistent, possibly, with a need to contain anxiety-producing impulses and thoughts. There were days when he would not do anything else but Dance Dance Revolution.[219]... Wiki

Claire McCaskill turns the Sandy Hook Tragedy into Nothing More Than a Political Agenda Points Game
Ok, Claire, if you insist on turning these lost innocent lives into a points game to benefit your personal agenda, let's do some scoring:
The number of assault weapons Adam Lanza used to kill the children & staff of Sandy Hook Elementary:
ZERO - According to law enforcement, he carried 4 handguns into the school and left the assault rifle in his mother's car. See
The number of assault rifles that would have been removed from the household of Adam Lanza's mother if the assault weapons ban had been reinstated prior to this event:
ZERO - Even if Obama had reinstated the assault weapons ban after the recent movie theater massacre, Adam's mother would still be allowed to keep the assault rifle she already legally owned. The ban proposed would only block the future purchases of assault weapons. Adam would still have been able to steal it from his mother. However, NONE of the school shooting victims were even shot with an assault rifle.
The number of guns of ANY kind that would have been removed from the household of Adam Lanza's mother if the currently proposed tougher gun control laws had been put into affect prior to this event:
ZERO - Obama and his new gun control task force aren't proposing the collection or removal of any guns from the hands of lawful gun owners prior to the legislation. Any previously lawfully owned assault rifle is grandfathered in and the owner would be allowed to keep it. The proposed legislation will not ban previously lawfully owned handguns or the future lawful purchase of them. If the proposed legislation would have been in affect before the Sandy Hook tragedy, all of the guns that Adam Lanza used in massacre, plus the assault rifle he didn't use would still have been in his mother's legal possession.
The number of illegal(present or future) guns Adam Lanza used:
ZERO - The guns were lawfully registered and owned by his mother. The proposed gun control legislation would not have blocked the purchase or ownership of ANY of the guns Adam used in the school. The new legislation will do nothing to prevent an exact repeat of this tragedy.
The number of guns that Adam used that were less deadly than the assault rifle he left in the car:
ZERO - Clearly, the handguns he used were quite effective at taking human life and he didn't need an assault rifle to murder on a large scale.
The number of teachers at Sandy Hook who were allowed to carry a weapon to protect the children of the school, since protecting those children is one of their most important responsibilities:
ZERO - Just ONE well trained and armed protector of those children at that school could have saved many, if not all of the lives lost that day. However, we are foolish enough to believe that if we say guns aren't allowed in school PERIOD, bad guys will obey that law and nothing like this can happen. But hey, let's pass another law, that'll stop the bad guys because they'll surely obey the next law, right?
The number of states that have stricter gun laws than Connecticut:
ZERO - Connecticut has the toughest guns laws of any US state, but it did nothing to stop this tragedy.
The number of cities that have completely banned guns, even from the hands of law-abiding citizens, and have seen their level of crime drop dramatically after doing so:
ZERO - Some of our nations highest crime rates exist in cities that have banned all guns. Most full gun ban cities have seen their crime rates increase after blocking the ownership of guns by their lawful citizens. In those cities, only the criminals have the guns, which is never a recipe for a low crime rate.
The number of laws that Adam Lanza would've obeyed if they had just been in place before this massacre:
ZERO - Murder was already illegal, yet he broke that law 26 times!
And now, the score for Claire McCaskill trying to capitalize on the deaths of the victims of this horrible crime to advance her own political agenda and acting as if the lawful gun owners are the bad guys and the real threat to America:
A BIG FAT ZERO!
I have 2 words for you, Claire................ YOU FAIL!

World War II built many walls. In Europe, walls of barbed wire surrounded death camps for Jews. Here in the United States, Japanese-Americans were confined in internment camps and conscientious objectors in Civilian Public Service camps. And in the Pacific theatre, banzai attacks of Japanese soldiers refusing to surrender created walls of fire and steel. Through a blend of poetry and monologue in their own words, this is the dramatization of how three historical figures—conscientious objector William Stafford, Japanese-American internee Lawson Inada, and East L.A. marine Guy Gabaldón—galvanized language to discover liberation beyond these walls.
A full staged reading will be produced by Los Porteños at the Milagro Theatre on September 25-28, 2014 in commemoration of the William Stafford Centennial, the 70th anniversary of the rescindment of Executive Order 9066, and Hispanic Heritage Month.

Sandy Hook Medical Examiner Wayne Carver is a very funny guy.
First off God bless all the victims of crime around the world. Forgive me if I offend anyone but I found Wayne Carver to crack me up. I know the situation is serious but this guy had me rofl. Just the name, Wayne Carver. How classic is that for an examiner to have the name Carver. Then he answers several questions with funny responses. If I was at this press conference I wouldn't have been able to control my laughter. I don't see how no one was cracking up. Some of the classic lines: he didn't get to make it to the second floor, they were wearing kids stuff, they were shot all over. Forgive me but I was on the floor after watching this guy.
