CORACLE Boat Ride Srirangapatna 3 River SANGAM Cauvery Lokapavani Hemavati
Parisal ( Coracale ) Ride in Sangam : Confluence Sangama is the confluence of 3 holy rivers Kaveri River, Lokapavani River & Hemavati River. It is in Srirangapatna, Mandya. Holy place for immersing ASHES in Cauvery river.
This is a very quaint and important place but neglected by local authorities to maintain it as a neat attractive place. The Coracle Ride is fun especially just after the Monsoon months.
The coracle is a small, rounded, lightweight boat of the sort traditionally used in small rivers, and also in parts of the Kaveri ( Cauvery ) and in Ireland, particularly the River Boyne, and in Scotland, particularly the River Spey. The word is also used of similar boats found in India, Vietnam, Iraq and Tibet. The word coracle is an English spelling of the original Welsh cwrwgl, cognate with Irish and Scottish Gaelic currach, and is recorded in English text as early as the sixteenth century. Other historical English spellings include corougle, corracle, curricle and coricle.

In Hindu tradition Triveni Sangam is the confluence (Sangam in Sanskrit) of three rivers. The point of confluence is a sacred place for Hindus, with a bath here said to flush away all of one's sins and free one from the cycle of rebirth.
The water level decreases after rainy season, making the pieces of high land rise above water. These form islands. During my visit to triveni Sangama, i was lucky to be able walk across to two islands. The best part is that, the boat men, would row till near the island and then they drag the boat on shallow waters till they reach deeper waters.
The Thriveni Sangama at KR Pete Taluk is peaceful, slightly isolated and visited by only the local shepherds .
The other interesting place nearby is the Cave temple or Gavi Siddhalingeshwara temple sadly no information is available about this temple. It is said that this cave connects to the Somanahalli village, which is 5 kms from here. The cave is a sacred place and on Mondays, people and priest come and worship and offer their prayers there. If any one has any info about this cave temple, please leave your comments below.
