THAILAND'S BEST KEPT SECRET — Sangkhlaburi — Only Thing Travel
I have travelled across the world but Sangkhlaburi, Thailand will forever hold a special place in my heart. Sangkhlaburi is one of the most incredible, spectacularly beautiful places I have ever seen. It is guaranteed to get you off the beaten path in Thailand.
The town of Sangkhlaburi lies along the Burmese border less than 350 km to the northwest of Bangkok.
With a fascinating history, ethnically diverse population, spectacular landscapes, delicious food, and incredibly friendly people, Sangkhlaburi is, in my opinion, Thailand's best kept secret.
There's no shortage of things to do while visiting Sangkhlaburi. Wander the rural roads, rent a motorbike and explore the nearby national park, go kayaking or boating on the lake at sunset, and stroll along Mon bridge—just to name a few.
After spending a week here, I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have ever travelled to.
If you visit Sangkhlaburi, make sure you stay at Villa Scenns. It is run by a lovely couple (they even cooked a couple meals for me!) who are incredibly friendly and lovely to chat with.

DISCOVERING SANGKHLABURI, THAILAND
Vlog Ep.11 - Week 11/52 - March - 2015
Hello you! This weeks adventure took me to the west of Thailand to the district of Sangkhla Buri (also known as Sangkhlaburi).
Our first stop was a guided tour around one of Starfish Volunteers building sites by Starfish founder Dan. It doesn't look like much right now but once the building is finished it will become a new childcare centre. It is still a way off yet so we got our hands dirty by building some of the walls.
Then it was off to visit the house where the children currently live and it was incredibly humbling to see how happy they were together. They all clearly loved Dan and appreciated his generosity (the house is run through Dan's foundation and personal donations). Oh, and they also had puppies - cute!
Have an awesome week and be sure to subscribe for new videos every Sunday!

FAQs - the more you ask, the more you know. :)
- How old are you? - I was born in 1988, so if you're reading this in 2014 I'm 26 or if it's now 2015 then I'm 27.
- Where do you live? - Bangkok, Thailand
- Where are you from? - I'm a British guy from a small town in England, UK.
- Why did you move to Bangkok? - Check out the about section on my website brettworth.com for the reason.

- What do you do for fun? - I take photos, scuba dive, indoor rock climbing, arrange Meetup events in Bangkok, and try to find some interesting adventures to go on.
- How did you get a job in Bangkok? - It's pretty difficult to get a job in Thailand that isn't teaching, especially with no formal qualifications (see 'did you go to university' below). For the first year I studied Thai language - I'm really not very good with languages - and I did free work for charities. I said yes to helping out a lot of people and learned a bunch of new skills.
- What Ray-Bans do you wear? - Most of the time I wear the white gold limited edition Ultra Wayfarer released in 2009 or the Wayfarer Mercury planet edition.

- Did you go to university? - I studied photography at university for two years before I decided to drop out.
- Wait, why did you quit university? - In college I took two photography courses back to back for 3 years and found that university was basically the same thing all over again and it just wasn't challenging or worthwhile for me.
- How long do your vlogs take to edit? - Usually around 3+ hours.

Sangkhlaburi - A peaceful town to discover way past Kanchanaburi near the Burmese Border
Sangkhlaburi is in the remote part of Kanchanaburi Province. The main town, originally inhabited by Karen, has seen an influx of re-settlers: Mon, Burmese, Thai, Lao, and a growing number of Japanese and Westerners. The remoteness of the region adds to the it's serenity and laid-back atmosphere As a bonus, the town itself has the longest wooden bridge in Thailand. The signature attraction of Sangkhlaburi.
UNDERWATER TEMPLE SANGKHLABURI
UNDERWATER TEMPLE SANGKHLABURI. Today we are visiting the UNDERWATER TEMPLE of SANGKHLABURI. We rented a longtail boat which drove us around 3 temples, include Wat Saam Prasob know as The Sunken Temple. As it still was June the temples were not underwater yet and we could enter them. Really very beautiful place.

No sooner had we put our bags in the room and we were off on our longtail boat ride around the lake. The boat ride cost 500 baht all up so it was quite good value to check out the scenery and local area.
The lake is now called Vajiralongkorn lake and has a hydroelectric dam at the southern end. The flooding of the lake took a toll on the local villagers here who had to move to higher ground in many places and the remains of some of the temples are still seen when the lake levels recede towards the end of the dry season.
The Sangkhlaburi district houses a number of natural, cultural and historical sites that are worth a visit. The Mon bridge or “Saphan Mon” is Thailand’s longest wooden bridge and the second longest in the world measuring over 400 meters long. Today the only thing still visible of the old village is Wat Samprasob temple, located on a hill. During most of the year, merely the upper section of the ordination hall and the top of the bell tower can be seen.
After our boat ride, we set off for dinner and then cruised around the local street market where Chanya wanted to buy some traditional clothes to wear for the next mornings blessing and the trip to the main temple which you will catch in the next video.

I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her were taking its toll. We hope we will give you a unique perspective on Thailand life and lifestyle as we go about our daily life and sometimes explore the Land of Smiles. A Trip to Kanchanaburi, Sangkhlaburi and Myanmar via The Three Pagodas Pass
Sangkhlaburi (สังขละบุรี) is an area in the north-west of Kanchanaburi Province, close to Myanmar. It is a valley where three rivers converge (Songkhalia and Biklie Rivers run all the way down from Myanmar, and Runti River from Uthaithani, Thailand), and is full of natural beauty that attracts a lot of visitors despite its remoteness. This valley in which Sangkhlaburi lies was home to the local Mon community some 40 years ago. But after the construction of the Vajiralongkorn Dam in 1984, much of the village was submerged under water, and what remained became separated into two parts. These two halves of the town were later linked by what has become Sangkhlaburi’s most famous trait, the wooden Mon Bridge initiated by Luangpho Uttama – the Kingdom’s most revered Mon monk. Sangkhlaburi remains as a tranquil district where people leading a simple life. The Three Pagodas Pass is the border crossing station to Myanmar.
