Welcome to Sanibel Island, Florida!
INFO: - As you leave Fort Myers and begin to cross the Sanibel Causeway, gulls, pelicans and terns herald your arrival - flying alongside your car, and you may possibly be greeted by jumping dolphins below in the water.
Here, mother nature has created a masterpiece of soft white sugary sand, soothing gulf breezes and abundant natural beauty. From the renowned and historic Sanibel Lighthouse, which beckons you to the shell strewn Gulf of Mexico beaches, to the meandering canals, Sanibel possibly has the best weather in the world.
But it's the beaches... garnished with tossing palm trees and whispering pines, it's miles and miles of beaches appeal to even the most finicky of beach enthusiasts.
Sniabel Island offers the best shelling in North America simply because of geography and the shape of the island. The term Sanibel Stoop and Captiva Crouch refers to the many visitors bending over and collecting their bounty of seashells. In fact, The non profit Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum features more than 30 exibits of mollusks from around the world, and are devoted to shells in art and history, shell habitat, rare specimens, fossil shells, and more. There is a hands on play area for children as well as videos and games.
Miles of white beaches are located throughout Sanibel and nearby Captiva island. Most beaches have nearby parking, restrooms, showers, grills, picnic tables and of course, miles and miles of sand. Some beaches have gentle waves perfect for little children - others have a bigger surf to slash and swim in the sun kissed Gulf.
Enjoy miles of scenic bike paths and walking paths that meander along the gulf and wind through wildlife habitat and quiet neighborhoods.
Sanibel is a barrier island sanctuary where over 67 percent of the lands on the island are protected. The J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is second only to beaches as the island's top attraction, and is one of the top 5 most visited refuges in the US. Tram tours are the best and most eco friendly option with little impact on the environment, plus your experienced guides will help you spot wildlife that most visitors would never see on their own or would be able to identify. These guides take visitors past tidal mud flats and mangrove forests where spoonbills, herons, flamingos, egrets, pelicans, ibis, anhingas, bald eagles and many more birds may be observed.
Whether you're a fisherman angling for your early morning catch, a kamakaze pelican looking for his next meal or just want a nice quiet seafood dinner, there are many local restaurants and cafes for your dining pleasure. The island is pleasantly devoid of chain stores and restaurant, as well as big box stores, but is dotted with locally owned, colorful shops, galleries and restaurants.
The recently renovated Island Cinema and the Schoolhouse Theatre provide plenty of entertainment. The new city recreation center offers swimming and other activities.
The best way to experience this paradise is to stay right here on the islands. For information on a beautiful gulf side 3 bedroom condominium for rent, visit Shorewood2C.com. With room to sleep 6, the quite complex offers a swimming pool and direct access to this sandy beach.

Sea Racer Dolphin Interaction 1/11/2020 Fort Myers Beach / Sanibel Island Florida
Watching the Dolphins have fun chasing our speedboat tour on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. They love when this boat comes by and gives them a chance to play. They are not abused or harassed in any way.Just playing at a speed of about 15 MPH. Far below the 35 they are capable of achieving. Please no uninformed or uneducated animal rights activists spewing venom when not knowing the facts.

We are lucky enough to live only 5 minutes drive to Sanibel Island. Being that close, we obviously like to take advantage and make the short trek over the causeway islands to relax on the great Sanibel Island beaches or explore the scene on Captiva Island.
After a great beach day on Sanibel, it was to time leave and grab some grub at the Bimini Bait Shack. This video is leaving Sanibel Island and head back across the bridges.
It’s a beautiful drive. You will offer see dolphins in the waters below, pelicans gliding by just outside your windows and Osprey sitting on the bridge spying their next fishy meal.
Here is that drive.
Cheers!

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.
MEET US!
Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.
When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.
Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.
I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!
Sanibel Island For Best Shelling and Wildlife
Took our Winnebago View to Sanibel Island off the west coast of to do some shelling and see the white sandy beaches. Surprised to get an RV spot at Periwinkle RV and Aviary Park. We went for the shelling, but the bird were a pleasant surprise. Weather was great, but didn't find as many shells as I expected. Rode my bike the length of the island and onto Captiva Island. Nice beach (Turner Beach) there also. Saw a Gopher Tortoise along the bike path as well as many sea birds.

Ft Myers Sanibel Island
I drive down to meet up with Caroline and Victoria in Beautiful Ft. Meyers Florida. We travel to the famous barrier island Sanibel. one of the only islands in the state with an east west orientation compared to a north and south like the rest of the state. This make it one of the premier locations in Florida to find seashells. Our first stop os the light house which was built in 1884. Then we travel to a resort with a beach bar called Coconuts, after a drink we head to The Sandbar for dinner. You can see dolphins and fish feeding in the fast moving current adjacent to the lighthouse beach.
