Welcome to Sanibel Island, Florida!
INFO: - As you leave Fort Myers and begin to cross the Sanibel Causeway, gulls, pelicans and terns herald your arrival - flying alongside your car, and you may possibly be greeted by jumping dolphins below in the water.
Here, mother nature has created a masterpiece of soft white sugary sand, soothing gulf breezes and abundant natural beauty. From the renowned and historic Sanibel Lighthouse, which beckons you to the shell strewn Gulf of Mexico beaches, to the meandering canals, Sanibel possibly has the best weather in the world.
But it's the beaches... garnished with tossing palm trees and whispering pines, it's miles and miles of beaches appeal to even the most finicky of beach enthusiasts.
Sniabel Island offers the best shelling in North America simply because of geography and the shape of the island. The term Sanibel Stoop and Captiva Crouch refers to the many visitors bending over and collecting their bounty of seashells. In fact, The non profit Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum features more than 30 exibits of mollusks from around the world, and are devoted to shells in art and history, shell habitat, rare specimens, fossil shells, and more. There is a hands on play area for children as well as videos and games.
Miles of white beaches are located throughout Sanibel and nearby Captiva island. Most beaches have nearby parking, restrooms, showers, grills, picnic tables and of course, miles and miles of sand. Some beaches have gentle waves perfect for little children - others have a bigger surf to slash and swim in the sun kissed Gulf.
Enjoy miles of scenic bike paths and walking paths that meander along the gulf and wind through wildlife habitat and quiet neighborhoods.
Sanibel is a barrier island sanctuary where over 67 percent of the lands on the island are protected. The J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is second only to beaches as the island's top attraction, and is one of the top 5 most visited refuges in the US. Tram tours are the best and most eco friendly option with little impact on the environment, plus your experienced guides will help you spot wildlife that most visitors would never see on their own or would be able to identify. These guides take visitors past tidal mud flats and mangrove forests where spoonbills, herons, flamingos, egrets, pelicans, ibis, anhingas, bald eagles and many more birds may be observed.
Whether you're a fisherman angling for your early morning catch, a kamakaze pelican looking for his next meal or just want a nice quiet seafood dinner, there are many local restaurants and cafes for your dining pleasure. The island is pleasantly devoid of chain stores and restaurant, as well as big box stores, but is dotted with locally owned, colorful shops, galleries and restaurants.
The recently renovated Island Cinema and the Schoolhouse Theatre provide plenty of entertainment. The new city recreation center offers swimming and other activities.
The best way to experience this paradise is to stay right here on the islands. For information on a beautiful gulf side 3 bedroom condominium for rent, visit Shorewood2C.com. With room to sleep 6, the quite complex offers a swimming pool and direct access to this sandy beach.

Sandbars to Sanibel
A film set on Sanibel Island, Florida, an island in the Gulf of Mexico circa 1929. The islands mail girl drenches the mailbag and the whole town fondles a water soaked letter trying desperately to find the recipient, resisting the temptation to read its contents. A love affair ignites, a school house goes bezurk, and a small village becomes re-united. This film is shot entirely hand held, in 24 frames. All 49 actors are townspeople from Sanibel and Captiva with little to no acting experience. All 8 original wood framed knotty pine buildings are tightly positioned on 2 acres, yet they appear miles apart in the film. This film reflects the true characters of Floridas island pioneers. Sandbars to Sanibel is a fun romantic chock full of Easter egg surprises.

Fort Myers, Sanibel & Captiva Beaches | REALTY-V #3
Welcome to Realty-V
I’m Stacey Glenn – your host and Top Producing Real Estate Agent at Royal Shell Real Estate.
So let’s talk beaches. There are so many beaches in Southwest Florida this is going to be a 2-part topic. In this video, I'll cover the beaches of Lee County: Fort Myers Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
The beaches are why I moved here, just like so many other people. Now that I’ve been here for so long I want to share some insider info on this beautiful buying factor.
Let’s start with Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Simply stunning. Fantastic for shelling, some of the best in the world. There’s an iconic lighthouse on the tip of Sanibel and lucky for you there’s the Lighthouse Beach Park where you can enjoy it.
The Causeway Beaches offer great fishing and family picnic locations with clean restrooms and shallow water.
There’s also Bowman’s Beach and Gulfside City Park Beach - both are great for picnics and some quiet relaxation.
Fort Myers has Lovers Key State Park – this picturesque place is host to many family photos and weddings.
There’s Fort Myers Beach - a popular spring break destination. It’s a great mini staycation place for reggae music, beach volleyball and fun people.
Bunche Beach is a hidden beach mostly known to locals and it’s a great place to rent a kayak and explore the mangroves.
That’s it for the first half of my best beaches list. Tune in next week to learn more.
Southwest Florida…
Is where I live and what I love.
See you next week!

#ParadiseLost:Sanibel-Island#byVictoriaMatthews#
Paradise Lost on Sanibel Island is an historical fictional novel. It details the drastic hurricanes, senseless wars, and prejudices that separate the land from its people. It begins with the first settlement of the Calusa Natives in the 16th century and focuses on their cultural attitudes and beliefs that involves Metamapo and her community. Afterwards, the Spanish invasion influence the islanders, aside from a brief interaction with pirate occupants and the struggling settlements of the Seminoles Natives and the homesteading pioneers. The three Seminole Wars were fought between the Seminole natives of Florida who refused to vacate the land and the U.S. army. The effects of the Florida Seminole Wars resulted in physical and psychological trauma for many soldiers and Seminoles. Walking Ghost, a Seminole warrior scalped American soldiers as well as his fellow tribesmen. Yet, the pioneers who settled on Sanibel Island were conflicted in their daily lives. Gertrude, becomes an outcast scripted by puritanical ethics, but becomes a symbol of perseverance. Years progress through America’s involvement in World War one and World War two which results in veteran Templeton’s psychological inability, and veteran Andy’s physical handicap which separate them from their families. The novel ends with the loss of identity of the mixed-blooded Seminole native, Ibis, who rejects the countercultural of the nineteen-seventies and retreats in dire disappointment. While the novel follows a definite story line, it supplies historical information and persuasive commentary.
Disclaimer: The characters and names used in this novel are purely fictional.
