Garnisonkirche St. Martin in Dresden / Garrison Church of St. Martin in Dresden
----------------------------------------------
The Garrison Church of St. Martin (actually Simultaneous Church of St. Martin ) in Dresden was the garrison church of the Albertstadt, which was created as a military city for large parts of the Saxon army. The double church was built in the second phase between 1893 and 1900 in a central location of the barracks complex.
It divided into the two separate church rooms for the Protestant and Roman Catholic denominations, of which since 1945 only the Catholic part is used sacral. The Simultaneous Church of St. Martin is since then the parish church of the St. Francis Xaverius community Dresden-Neustadt.
The church is located on the Stauffenbergallee (former army road or Carolaallee) in the immediate vicinity of the central arsenal building, today's Military History Museum of the Bundeswehr . The entrances to the church are on the northern side, facing Stauffenbergallee. This unusual arrangement simplified the entry and collection of confessional mixed military troops.
East of the church runs the slightly enclosed Kerbtal of Prießnitz; The church itself is not only opposite the Prießnitztal, but also slightly elevated compared to the city center of Dresden. To the south, it overlooks the Alaunpark, the green lung of the trendy district of Äußere Neustadt. Except for the south side, the garrison church is not surrounded by other buildings, but by a park and forest landscape.
After the founding of the German Reich, a military complex was built in Dresden in the Albertstadt for initially about 10,000, later a few more soldiers of the Royal Saxon Army. Thus, the previously scattered and converted by the city individual barracks could be replaced. The Christian burial ministry continued to take over the churches of the city. Returning to the principle laid down in the Augsburg Peace of Religion Cuius regio, eius religio and the introduction of the Reformation in Saxony in 1539, Dresden was almost exclusively Protestant-Lutheran, so that Catholic military members until then the only Catholic Church in Dresden, the Catholic Court Churchused at Schlossplatz. The Protestant care of the site took over the Dreikönigskirche on the main road . The Albertstadt was mainly financed by France's reparations payments after the Franco-Prussian War, and the bells of the church were also cast from the metal of captured cannons.
The competition for the construction of the church won the office William Lossow and Hermann Viehweger. For the simultaneous church on October 28, 1895 three foundations were laid, one for the two church parts and a third for the tower as an expression that the tower belongs to any part of the church. The church was consecrated on October 28, 1900. The building contains a gallery dedicated to King Albert I , but he visited the church only twice.
During the air raids on Dresden's city center on 13 and 14 February 1945, the church was not hit. The Rifle Barracks in the immediate vicinity of the church received a serious hit and was not rebuilt. Both the Albertstadt as a military destination and the densely populated Äußere Neustadt in the vicinity of the church were in any attack on Dresden target of bombardment.
After the war, the church lost its function as a garrison church. The Catholic St. Francis Xavier Church, whose church was destroyed on the main street in the Inner New Town , found a replacement in the garrison church. The evangelical part was initially used by the parish of the destroyed St. Pauli Church , which, however, in the mid-1960s renounced the use of the much too large space for them and had communal rooms in the vicarage.
In the postwar period, the Albertstadt took over - also due to the destruction in the city center - above all, an important function as a storage and archival site. Later, the garrison's buildings also contained accessible parts of state institutions such as the State Library and the art collections . In the Protestant part of the garrison church was the phonon library. With the reopening of the museum and exhibition buildings, the Albertstadt gave these tasks over the decades again. Since 2002, the phonon library has been located in the main building of the new Saxon State Library - State and University Library.
With the opening of the Albertstadt barracks in 1998, in which the Army Officers' School is located, the Catholic part of the garrison church was again used for religious services of the military pastoral care, both Catholic and Protestant.
In the same year, the garrison church, which was run as a federal asset since 1990, was sold together with the surrounding property to a private investor. The rights of use remain unaffected. Part of the building serves as a depot for the Dresdner Puppentheatersammlung.

The exquisite Dresden's Church of Our Lady is an Evangelical Church in the Germany.
Built on the site of a Roman Catholic church, the original Baroque structure was erected in the 18th century.
It is a true masterpiece with several unique and important elements adorning it, among which is the momentous Martin Luther statue.
The church was near completely ravaged in the Second World War and remained dormant in ruins for about 40 years.
Its dismantled grounds bore a symbolic connotation in history when thousands gathered here to support the 1980's peace movement prevalent in East Germany.
18th century construction techniques, original stones, and designs were referred to in order to re-produce the original structure which today graces the Dresden city.

It is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires. The towers for its two huge spires give the cathedral the largest façade of any church in the world. The choir has the largest height to width ratio, 3.6:1, of any medieval church.
Construction of Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 but was halted in 1473, unfinished. Work did not restart until the 1840s, and the edifice was completed to its original Medieval plan in 1880.

【Cologne(Köln)】
Cologne is the largest city of Germany's most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth-most populous city in Germany. With slightly over a million inhabitants (1.08 million) within its city boundaries, Cologne is the largest city on the Rhine and also the most populous city both of the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region, which is Germany's largest and one of Europe's major metropolitan areas, and of the Rhineland. Centered on the left bank of the Rhine, Cologne is about 45 kilometres (28 mi) southeast of North Rhine-Westphalia's capital of Düsseldorf and 25 kilometres (16 mi) northwest of Bonn. It is the largest city in the Central Franconian and Ripuarian dialect areas.
The city's Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. There are many institutions of higher education in the city, most notably the University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln), one of Europe's oldest and largest universities, the Technical University of Cologne (Technische Hochschule Köln), Germany's largest university of applied sciences, and the German Sport University Cologne (Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln), Germany's only sport university. Cologne Bonn Airport (Flughafen Köln/Bonn) is Germany's seventh-largest airport and lies in the southeast of the city. The main airport for the Rhine-Ruhr region is Düsseldorf Airport.
Cologne was founded and established in Ubii territory in the 1st century AD as the Roman Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium, the first word of which is the origin of its name. An alternative Latin name of the settlement is Augusta Ubiorum, after the Ubii. Cologne, the French version of the city's name, has become standard in English as well. Cologne functioned as the capital of the Roman province of Germania Inferior and as the headquarters of the Roman military in the region until occupied by the Franks in 462. During the Middle Ages the city flourished as being located on one of the most important major trade routes between east and western Europe. Cologne was one of the leading members of the Hanseatic League and one of the largest cities north of the Alps in medieval and Renaissance times. Prior to World War II, the city had undergone several occupations by the French and also by the British (1918–1926). Cologne was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II, with the Royal Air Force (RAF) dropping 34,711 long tons (35,268 tonnes) of bombs on the city. The bombing reduced the population by 95%, mainly due to evacuation, and destroyed almost the entire city. With the intention of restoring as many historic buildings as possible, the successful postwar rebuilding has resulted in a very mixed and unique cityscape.

Places to see in ( Dresden - Germany ) Military History Museum
The Bundeswehr Military History Museum is the military museum of the German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr, and one of the major military history museums in Germany. It is located in a former military arsenal in the Albertstadt which is part of Dresden. After a long history of switching titles and approaches to military history, the museum was re-opened in 2011 with a new internal and external concept. The museum focuses on the human aspects of war, while also showcasing the evolution of German military technology.
The original building, the armory, was built between 1873-1876 and became a museum in 1897. Originally the Saxon armory and museum, the building has served as a Nazi museum, a Soviet museum and an East German museum which reflected the region's shifting social and political positions over the last 135 years. In 1989, the museum was closed because the newly unified German state was unsure how the museum would fit into the history being created. By 2001, feelings regarding the museum had shifted and an architectural competition was held for an extension which would cause visitors to reconsider the way they think about war.
The original armory building was completed in 1876 as an armory for Kaiser Wilhelm I. The Arsenal main building in the center of Dresden's Albert City served as an armory for roughly twenty years, until it was transformed into a museum in 1897. Since then, the main building of the arsenal has housed the Royal Arsenal Collection, the Royal Saxon Army Museum, and in 1923 became the Saxon Army Museum. After 1938, the museum became the Army Museum of the Wehrmacht, and in 1972 the Army Museum of the GDR. Seven months before the reunification of Germany, the museum was renamed the Military History Museum in Dresden.
On February 13 and 14, 1945, British bomber planes commenced an air attack against Dresden, creating a vast firestorm below. During the first phase, 244 Lancaster bombers dropped high explosive and incendiary bombs aimed at the center of the city. American B-17 bombers followed the next morning, to destroy the city's railroad marshaling yards. While much of the city was in ruins, the Bundeswehr's main military museum and most of the other military buildings in the Albertstadt survived the bombing of Dresden because of its location on the city's outskirts. The building withstood World War II attacks on Germany and continued to be used as a military museum until it was closed in 1989. It re-opened again in 2011 and provided a new way of presenting military history. The exhibition concept and design was developed by HG Merz.
The museum has made an effort to distance itself from the usual presentations of military history. Instead of glorifying war and armies, the museum tries to present the causes and consequences of war and violence. The focus is placed on the human component of war, on the hopes, fears, passion, courage, memories and aspirations of those involved. The museum seeks to inform visitors about the military history while encouraging them to ask questions and seek new answers. Visitors can go through the museum through two approaches: thematic sections, and a chronological tour. Additionally, the museum showcases the history of Military Technology, Handguns, Uniforms and Insignia, Order, Art, an Image Archive, Records, and a Library.
