[Wikipedia] Sanriku Railway
The Sanriku Railway (三陸鉄道, Sanriku Tetsudō) is a railway company in Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan. The company and its lines are also known as Santetsu (三鉄). The company was founded in 1981, as the first third sector (half public, half private) railway line in the country, excluding special cases such as freight railways in seaports. Its lines are former Japanese National Railways (JNR) lines, that were going to be closed. Santetsu acquired these lines in 1984. The company also operates a travel agency and other businesses.

Sanriku Railway – Symbol of Hope
The small, local Sanriku Railway is the main transportation between the communities that line the jagged Sanriku Coast of Iwate. When the great earthquake of 2011 devastated the region, the damage to this essential and much loved railway seemed at first too great to repair. But undaunted they immediately began the attempt, and the sight of their heroic work inspired volunteers to come from all over the country to help. In just three years, the railway was operational again. We look at this charming country railway through the eyes of a young woman who became a train driver after the disaster.

Akitanairikujukan Railroad Trip ; Japan Rail
Some of the scenes between Takanosu and Kakunodate on the Akitanairikujukan Railroad. This is undoubtedly one of the scenic trips in Japan. I can only imagine how it must look in Autumn. It is the most unspoiled scenery that I have seen outside of Hokkaido. I shot the bulk of it with my Canon G12 as my big camera could not be set up close to the windscreen and I wanted to avoid reflections. If you ever get to Japan do this trip it's well worth the cost of the ticket.

I decided to go on a train trip. The Sanriku Railway is a local railroad that runs along the Pacific coast. Trains run by the sea are popular among people because they can enjoy superb views from the window. The seat in the window can be changed as you like, so you can enjoy your trip on the train. The windshield of the running train becomes a wonderful screen. The relaxed scenery beyond the window makes me romantic. Another train car is a retro feel. The station crew is selling things in the basket, so it looks like the old look of our train. The Sanriku Railway, which has a variety of themed trains, is what raises expectations. The wide open sea makes my heart cool. I did not know how much time I had traveled because of the wonderful scenery over the train.

Where I stopped my journey again on the train. The quiet sea where the calm waves are warmed up feels warm like mother's arms. But people look at a place for a long time to see what they see. There are sea women in the sea. Here, the girl on the Kosode coast is called the northernmost girl. A lot of tourists are looking for a sea girl who goes into the water with her body and works. Without a proper diving equipment, a sea lady who descends deep into the water again rises above the water, and tourists who have waited outside the water are surprised and applaud the sea girl. It is good to dive in winter when the waves are hot or cold. But in the same summer, here, the daughters spend their busy time in 7, 8 and 9 months because they have to dive in the tourism business in addition to the original daughters. Incredible. I do not swim, and the (daughters) catch me that much. The daughters come out of the water after diving for the tourists. As soon as I come out, I show the cans in the water. However, it is not wetsuit clothes. Is this dress a traditional costume? Yes. It is costume as sightseeing dragon. There is a limited period for harvesting, so the nearby women have been engaged in sightseeing, and in this sense, this costume is traditional. It is the only place to wear the traditional costume now. So, there are young people from far away to here to become a sea girl. I went to Iwate from Chiba prefecture because I wanted to work as a married woman to watch the TV soap opera Aman-chan . How many years have you been working as a married woman? It's been over 30 years. I do not think I can do more in the future. The freshly cut sea urchin immediately splits from its place and removes the intestines and puts them on instant rice. It is delicious. The taste of the sea is conveyed intact in protein-rich sea urchins.
