Trip to Spain - Beautiful hike in Montserrat: Sant Jeroni and Ermita de Sant Antoni
I had a beautiful morning with my friend Raul Alhena in Montserrat, a magical mountain in Barcelona.
We climbed to the highest peak St Jeroni (1236 metres), and then went to a secret spot called St. Antoni, where we played a wonderful Tibetan singing bowl.

Hiking to Sant Jeroni | Highest point on Montserrat
As promised, today you come with me on my hiking trip to Sant Jeroni. At 1236m it is the highest point on Montserrat.
It was my first mountain hiking trip and it was AMAZING! Yeah it was hard, with the many steps and the sun. But if you take your time and take some brakes - YOU CAN DO IT! :)
From Montserrat to Jant Seroni it takes 2 hours and 2,5 hours back, because you take another beautiful way back to Montserrat.
I hope you enjoyed the video and you get the desire to hiking Sant Jeroni or another mountain! :)

Climbing Sant Jeroni in Montserrat
Recently, my friends took me on a hiking trip. I didn’t actually know the exact details of it, I just went with them. At first I was in absolute awe with the views and the cable car ride. Then, we started trekking.
30 minutes into the journey, I started to ask them if we’re almost near. They said it is just a 1 hour climb and happily walked on so I followed. I have probably asked “Are we there yet?” every 15 minutes. All along the way, I didn’t know that we were actually heading towards the peak which is Sant Jeroni in Montserrat and is 1,236 m above sea level. I still can’t believe I have reached the top! It took us more than 3 hours though with all my complaining and moaning hahaha..,
But it was all worth it!
It was the first time I became a hiker and a mountaineer without realising it then and there????

Montserrat is one hour from Barcelona but bit of a hidden gem. Although plenty of tourists visit the monastery, the walking routes are very quiet. This place has a fascinating history with Napoleon and Himmler paying it a visit. Himmler specifically came looking for the holy grail which he believed would give him supernatural powers. It is easy to get here from Barcelona and a perfect day trip. We sleep in our car again and find out that many truck stops have showers to use for a small fee, a great budget travel hack.

Places to see in ( Montserrat - Spain )
Montserrat is a multi-peaked rocky range located near the city of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. Montserrat is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni, Montgrós and Miranda de les Agulles.
Montserrat is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth.
Montserrat literally means saw (serrated, like the common handsaw) mountain in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with multitude of rock formations which are visible from a great distance. The mountain is composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. Montserrat is Spain's first National Park. In 1493, Christopher Columbus named the Caribbean island of Montserrat Santa Maria de Montserrate, after the Virgin of Montserrat.
The Benedictine Abbey can be reached by road, by the Aeri de Montserrat cable car, or by the Montserrat Rack Railway. The lower stations of both the rack railway and the cable car can be reached by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya train from Barcelona's Plaça d'Espanya station. From the abbey, the Funicular de Sant Joan funicular railway goes up to the top of the mountain, where there are various abandoned hovels in the cliff faces that were previously the abodes of reclusive monks, while the Funicular de la Santa Cova descends to a shrine.
The highest summit of Montserrat is called Sant Jeroni (Saint Jerome) and stands at 1,236 meters (4,055 feet) above sea-level. It is accessible by hiking trails which connect from the top entrance to the Sant Joan funicular, the monastery, or the base of the mountain. The Cavall Bernat 1,111 meters (3,645 feet) is an important rock feature popular with climbers.

Hiking Montserrat - day hike on top of St Jeroni and back to the monastery
This is a video about our day hike in Monsterrat.
We started the journey from Aeri by taking the tram up and the the St Joan Funicular. From there we took the left from the top of the Funicular to the path towards St. Jeroni. The hike takes appr. 1 hour to the top and you can hike appr. 1 hour back from the top to the Monastery.
Overall it is around 4-5 hour day trip. You can reach the aeri tram way from Barcelona with the train.
Avoid just the monastery - seems like all the Chinese tourists have invaded that area - the hike was excellent and took us through the scenic way. It's semi-demanding, so be prepared with some food, water and good clothes. Definately recommend doing if in the area.

Montserrat, Spain - Santa Maria de Montserrat HD (2013)
Santa Maria de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat, in Monistrol de Montserrat, in Catalonia, Spain.
It hosts the Virgin of Montserrat, and the Publicacions de l'Abadia de Montserrat, a publishing house, one of the oldest presses in the world still running, with its first book published in 1499.
The monastery is Catalonia's most important religious retreat and groups of young people from Barcelona and all over Catalonia make overnight hikes at least once in their lives to watch the sunrise from the heights of Montserrat. Virgin of Montserrat (the black virgin), is Catalonia's favourite saint, and is located in the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat, next to the Benedictine monastery nestling in the towers and crags of the mountain. The Escolania, Montserrat's Boys' Choir, is one of the oldest in Europe, and performs during religious ceremonies and communal prayers in the basilica. Montserrat, whose name means serrated mountain, is 48 kilometres (approx 30 miles) west of Barcelona, and can be reached by road, train or cable car.
At 1236 metres (4055 ft) above the valley floor, Montserrat is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands, and stands central to the most populated part of Catalonia. The stone monolith is ideally located to play an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of Catalonia.
The Basilica houses a museum with works of art by many prominent painters and sculptors including works by El Greco, Dalí, Picasso and more. Montserrat's highest point, Sant Jeroni, can be reached by a footpath from the top station of the funicular Sant Jeroni. From Sant Joan, almost all of Catalonia can be seen, and on a clear day the island of Mallorca is visible.
