Minha Nau Santa Maria

The São Paulo Museum of Art is an art museum located on Paulista Avenue in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
It is well known for its headquarters, a 1968 concrete and glass structure designed by Lina Bo Bardi, whose main body is supported by two lateral beams over a 74 metres (243 ft) freestanding space, considered a landmark of the city and a main symbol of modern Brazilian architecture.
The museum is a private non-profit institution founded in 1947 by Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi. MASP distinguished itself for many important initiatives concerning museology and art education in Brazil, as well as for its pioneering role as a cultural center. It was also the first Brazilian museum interested in Post-World War II art.
The museum is internationally recognized for its collection of European art, considered the finest in Latin America and all Southern Hemisphere.
It also houses an emphatic assemblage of Brazilian art, prints and drawings, as well as smaller collections of African and Asian art, antiquities, decorative arts, and others, amounting to more than 8,000 pieces. MASP has one of the largest art libraries in the country. The entire collection has been named by Brazil's Institute of History and Art to the Brazilian National Heritage list.

Today is the day to explore the two most bohemian and traditional neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro: Santa Teresa and Lapa. Hylka goes to Books Hostel to meet her guest of the day, Constanza from Argentina. To reach Santa Teresa, they climb the steps painted by the artist Jorge Selarón. They taste exotic dishes inspired by Amazonian cuisine and visit a former residence of an art collector that was turned into a museum. In the evening, they walk through the neighbourhood’s colonial streets and explore the various local craft shops. Night falls and Hylka and Constanza walkthrough Lapa’s busy streets and end the day dancing in a traditional samba school, which is already set up for the next carnival. Definitely, enjoy Rio de Janeiro!

FARA CONSENZA MAKES HER TESSUTI DEBUT
Fafa Consenza took her Tessuti runway to the hallways of Rio de Janeiro's Modern Art Museum, while Maria Bonita Extra designer Ana Magalhaes took fashionistas into the pages of French literature.
In her debut leading Tessuti's design team, Consenza used desert dunes as her inspiration.
The show consisted mostly of sand and ivory neoprene suits and knee-length skirts, splashed with hints of yellow, grey and orange. The show ended with three colourful floor-length party gowns made from organza and satin silk.
The models prim-and-proper look was juxtaposed with cobra-skin 9'inch-heel sandals.
The Maria Bonita Extra show took fashionistas to Indochina and combined masculine accessories with delicate feminine pieces.
Designer Ana Magalhaes said she was inspired by the 15-year-old character featured in Marguerite Duras' L'Amant.
The collection was mostly made in linen, silk and cotton and included a variety of green and yellow tones combined with gold and tutti-frutti pink.
One of the stand-out materials was a turquoise silk with printed banzai-style trees.
The outfits were accented by Panama-style hats and bowler-tie shoes in different shades of pastel, silver and gold.
The music, which included lyrics in French, English and Portuguese, was provided by 15-year-old musician Malu Magalhaes (no relation) who the designer compared to Duras' character of inspiration.
Fashion Rio's 2008/2009 Summer/Spring collections run until Friday, June 13th.
