Lake Santeetlah NC - July 2018'
I was gifted the distinct joy of sharing a week with Sue touring Lake Santeetlah North Carolina in July of 2018'. Camped one night at Black Rock Mountain State Park in Georgia, then stayed 3 nights at Huffman Creek Retreat on the south east side of Lake Santeetlah. The area is lush, and verdant and quiet and soothing to the sole. Each morning after descending the mountain dirt two track two dogs would greet us laying in the middle of West Buffalo Road soaking up the sun on the warm black top (shows you just how much traffic does not travel this road). Looking forward to getting back there one day soon for sure!

Fontana Lake and Fontana Dam in the mountains of western North Carolina.
Such a beautiful mountain lake, made possible by the construction of Fontana Dam. Built to provide needed electricity for plants building parts of the U.S. War effort during WWII the dam not only helped the war effort but it provided power to 7 Southern states and still does today. Plus it provides great fish, boating and camping opportunities.

Drive from Murphy, NC to Robbinsville, NC
This is part one of the day we went for a drive in the mountains. I started recording at Murphy, NC (I made Skip drive up to see the Casino as I had never seen it before). This video ends right outside of Robbinsville before the start of the Cherohala Skyway.
US129 and Lake Santeetlah NC, Part 2
Leaving from Yellow Creek Road, we then head south on US129 for a short distance before making a right onto Joyce Kilmer Road.
This route will have us eventually following along the shore of Lake Santeetlah. The road starts as Joyce Kilmer, but we then go onto Santeetlah Dam Road. After a short distance we turn onto Thunder Mountain Road and finally Pine Ridge Road before going back onto US 129.
Once back onto US129 we head south over Ted Jordan bridge, across Lake Santeetlah and along Hwy 129 and stop in to see Ken at Wheelers bike shop.
