Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile. It is the center of Chile's largest and the most densely populated conurbation. The city is entirely located in the country's central valley, at an elevation of 520 m (1,706 ft) above sea level.
Founded in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago has been the capital city of Chile since colonial times. The city has a downtown core of 19th-century neoclassical architecture and winding side-streets, dotted by art deco, neo-gothic, and other styles. Santiago's cityscape is shaped by several stand-alone hills and the fast-flowing Mapocho River, lined by parks such as Parque Forestal. The Andes Mountains can be seen from most points in the city. These mountains contribute to a considerable smog problem, particularly during winter. The city outskirts are surrounded by vineyards and Santiago is within a few hours of both the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

This is Santiago, Chile ???????? Safe? Beautiful? Must Visit? What to do in the city. Travel Guide
We spent a full day checking out some of major sights to try to find the best things to in Santiago de Chile.
We started out the day with a run and headed to the beautiful Parque Bicentario where we saw some beautiful views of the city and mountains. We ran around the park for awhile to see what it had to offer and came across some flamingos.
We picked up the video later in the day in the centre of town in the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Santiago. From here we picked up our Hop on Hop off tickets from Turistik Chile and immediate hopped on a bus!
To book your Santiago Hop on Hop off ticket visit here (we had the “plus” ticket):
The Hop on Hop off bus took us throughout a large part of the city where we got to see many of the important sites and also listen to an audio guide.
We got off at the tallest building in Latin America called the Costanera Centre (Gran Torre). Here we bought tickets to the observation deck called Sky Costanera. The observatory is this highest in Latin America and offers amazing views of the city and Andes Mountains.
After this we walked to the cable car to make our way up Cerro San Cristobal, a park on a hill in the middle of the city. The tickets to the cable car were included in our Hop on Hop off ticket and also included the funicular down the hill.
Up at the top of Cerro San Cristobal you’ll find beautiful views of the city. You’ll also find a church as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary which you can see from the ground in most of the city.

La Chascona is the home-turned-museum of poet Pablo Neruda.
ABOUT CHILE
Chile is a long, narrow country stretching along South America's western edge, with more than 6,000km of Pacific Ocean coastline. Santiago, its capital, sits in a valley surrounded by the Andes and Chilean Coast Range mountains. The city's palm-lined Plaza de Armas contains the neoclassical cathedral and the National History Museum. The massive Parque Metropolitano offers swimming pools, a botanical garden and zoo.

The BEST WALKING TOUR of Santiago City!!! (298 | Chile Travel VLOG)
27 September 2019 - Day 36 - Santiago
VLOG 298
This morning we are on the hunt for my Rode Microphone which I so stupidly broked on my way to the airport. Audio just isn’t the same once you use a microphone and I can’t go back to a internal mic. I bought this mic for $220AUD but in Chile the offical price is 208,000 - $430AUD!!! They pretty much jack it way up being an Australian company and shipping to the other side of the world! I thought about it for a sec but a bit of common sense prevailed.????
Being a bright and glaring afternoon I search my bag my sunnies and find the case empty. I LEFT THEM ON THE TOP OF SANTA LUCIA HILL!!! ????????????. I couldn’t believe it. My beloved sunnies which I’ve had with me since South East Asia and have brought all the way around the world with me. ????????I was devastated such a silly mistake made by myself. Easily replaceable item however the sentimental value that it held, I literally needed a moment. ????????
This afternoon we take a 3hr walking tour around #Santiago and visit the main sites of Bellas Artes, Plaza de Armas, La Moneda, GAM and Lastarria! A very fun and informative tour with #tours4tips its an awesome way to get around and break the surface of a brand new city. It made sense of the areas and the things I’ve seen over the last few days and even got to catch the subway with the group rather than trying to figure it out on my own.????
It just made me realise how much I still need to read and catch up on Chile’s rich cultural and political history, from the Incas to the Spanish conquest, and from their socialist president Allende to their authoritarian dictator Pinochet!! You know what I’ll be watching on YouTube tonight!! ????????▶️

Breathtaking 9 hour Bus Ride from Chile to Argentina ???? Santiago to Mendoza by Bus
We travelled by bus from Santiago, Chile to Mendoza, Argentina. It was much quicker and about the same price to fly but we heard the bus ride was one of the best in the world, and it did not disappoint. It ended up being one of the most amazing bus rides we’ve ever been on if not one of the most beautiful bus rides in the world.
We travelled with Cata Internacional ( from Santiago to Mendoza. Tickets cost about $30 USD per person, and tickets were booked online. We were able to book the upper level front seats to have the most amazing view- and if you’re going to do this bus ride we’d highly recommend doing the same.
The bus left from South Terminal (Terminal Sur) in the international section. Make sure you are fully checked in before boarding the bus.
The bus ride took about 8-9 hours including a stop at the boarder that took about one hour. We’d heard it can take much longer but we left in the afternoon and it seems most buses leave in the morning or at night. Light snacks including juice, sandwiches and coffee were served on the bus but we’d also recommend packing some additional snacks and some water.
If you’re thinking about taking this bus ride we’d highly recommend it as it’s an absolutely stunning bus ride through the Andes Mountains.
