Travel tips for Santorini, Greece:
- The last tender boat back to the ship leaves at 4:30.
- Allow ample travel time for your destinations. You need to drive to the popular sites.
- Plan for big lines to get back onto the ship is bonkers for the cable cars and tenders!
- If you can, get premium disembarking packages. You get two tickets that let’s you disembark before everyone else. This saves you so much time! My tour guide told us her coworker was still waiting for their customers to disembark 1 hour later.
- Book a private tour guide to take us around Santorini. It will save you a lot of time.
- Walk in the REVERSE of all of the ship tours in the mornings and you'll skip all of the crowds.
- It cost 6 euros a person for a one way ticket for the Santorini cable car. Remember to bring some cash as it is cash only. For the best view sit on the right side of the gondola. You'll be facing the ocean instead of a hill.
- AVOID walking on the donkey trail. It's slippery and you can easily fall or get kicked by the donkeys. I also wouldn't ride the donkeys as it's expensive and they look miserable.
- I recommend this tour company:
The good thing is because we booked tours from 3 different cities we got a 10% discount.
Top Things to Do and See in Santorini:
- Oia -
Oia is famous for viewing the sunset. I heard it was beautiful because different colors from the sunset bounce off the white buildings. It must be a romantic place to be.
Oia is such a beautiful place to visit. There’s all these little narrow paths everywhere because it helps reduces the wind and also to protect them from pirate attacks. This way they cannot attack with a huge army but instead are forced to enter one by one because the streets are so narrow.
- Black Sand Kamari Beach -
Santorini is unique because it’s one of the few places where you can visit white, black, and red beaches all on one island. Bring towels or a bathing suit as it's a nice, pretty place to relax and enjoy the ocean.
- Pyrgos -
Pyrgos is a typical example of medieval architecture with narrow, twisty streets, fortified walls and hidden passages. If you want peace and quiet away from all the tourists then this town is a must visit. It was mostly just to see the buildings in a much quieter setting compared to Oia.
- Venesantos Winery -
Because it's so windy on Santorini, the farmers and vineyards grow crops in a unique way…for example, the wine grapes are grown on the ground in bunches rather than on vines.
The wine grapes on Santorini are grown with no irrigation! The vines get all their necessary water from “sea fog” which is a mix of humid ocean air and moisture from the active volcano. I loved their wine so much we bought two bottles.
I wish I could buy more but we didn't have any more room left in our suitcases. But they ship their wines to these places - maybe one day in the future I will find their wines there.

Fira, Santorini | A Walking Tour of a Greek Island Paradise
Thanks to NGreyTravels for some amazing footage of Fira in Santorini, Greece. This Mediterranean island was once a larger island, but thousands of years ago a volcanic eruption blew most of the island apart, leaving a ring of islands that surround an underwater dormant volcanic caldera.
You can reach the island of Santorini by taking a Ferry from the mainland of Greece, or by booking a cruise on one of the many cruise lines that visit Santorini on a weekly basis.
When the cruise ships are in port the town can be quite crowded, as many people come to check out the iconic sunsets that happen nightly on the island. If you wish to have a more intimate experience in Santorini, we highly recommend that you book a stay in one of the resorts.
If you can afford the luxury accommodations, you can also book a suite with a private plunge pool on the patio overlooking the Mediterranean to give you a private and relaxing view of the sunset.

From Santorini Airport to Fira and return - GREECE 2016
Music: Burner by Gunar Olsen, Sad Past by Silent Partner, Shaken by Riot and Home Stretch by Gunar Olsen
Santorini - Fira - Oia - scenic route (hiking ) Greece)
There is nice route for walking from Oia to Fira (or other way round :)). It has nice scenery. Route is about 8.5 to 7.5 km depenending where you start, so it takes from something like 2 to 2,5 hours. Route is medium on toughness in my opion. Some people run it, but I do not like stairs. There are lot of climbs. Surfaces varies much. There are couple small splits that are bit slippery.
There are not toilettes (wc) and opportunities for buying water are scarce.
But if you take backpack, water and pair of decent shoes this is an nice walk with much to see.
These videos are shot as I have seen them. There is minimum amount of processing with the material, to keep the video as authentic as possible. There is no music just the actual voices. Highly produced nice looking films can be found somewhere else. This is supposed to look true and raw. Videos have been shot with iPhone 6 plus.
THIRA / FIRA, SANTORINI, GREECE | TRAVEL VLOG
Thira, or Fira, is one of the most popular towns in Santorini, and for a good reason! We spent the day exploring around the iconic white houses, located on a steep cliff, or caldera. The dramatic views of the Mediterranean Sea are absolutely incredible, and the authentic Greek cuisine (aka gyros) cannot be bypassed.
Check out my video from Oia, Santorini:
Santorini Travel Tips:
1. Bring EUROS (not dollars)! Or at least exchange your money as soon as you land in the airport in Thira. We went all the way to Oia with US dollars only to find out that Santorinians only accept Euros, and that the only place tp exchange money is in Thira (at any bank). We didn't have money for a taxi or bus ride, so we hitch-hiked our way back to Thira.
2. Wear sunscreen. We made the mistake of not wearing sunscreen on our first day in Santorini and got as burnt as toast. It was windy, so we did even feel the burn happening, but it definitely was.
3. Bring a jacket out with you at night. It was so hot and sunny during the day, but as soon as the sun sets and the winds pick up, it is COLD.
4. There is a super cheap (1.60 euros/person) and easy-to-use bus system that will take you anywhere you want to go in Santorini! Including to and from the airport (much cheaper than a 30 Euro taxi ride to Oia). We were originally going to rent a car, but Ivan forget his drivers license, and it ended up working out for the best! It seemed tricky to drive in those super narrow curvy roads.
5. The people are so friendly and helpful. We received exceptional service everywhere we went!

Honeymoon in a Cheap LUXURY Suite in OIA, SANTORINI | Greece TRAVEL VLOG
Booking code:
Hello sunshines!
I am very excited to share with you our experience in one of the best luxury suites in Oia, Santorini Greece.
Watch my whole vlog and my upcoming vlog next week to learn great tips on how to travel cheap in Santorini.
* WHEN TO VISIT SANTORINI? *
1. Good weather + cheap hotels + less tourists: Late May - early June, late October - early November.
2. The most crowded months: June - September from 75% - 100% crowded.
* WHY VISIT SANTORINI IN LOW SEASON? *
1. Cheaper accommodations (5 star hotels decrease their prices). Most small hostels will close for the low season.
2. Less tourists which means you will enjoy the whole place to yourselves specially during the sunrises & sunsets. In addition, everything will have a calmer & more peaceful atmosphere.
3. Perfect weather. Not too hot nor too cold. The temperature when we were in Santorini ranged from 18-25 degrees celcius.
4. Most streets of Santorini are narrow. Imagine walking under the scorching heat and with hundred other sweaty people. LOL!
5. More local vibe.
But of course if there are pros, there are also cons when visiting Santorini during the low season.
1. Most food shops & souvenir stores are closed. It will be harder for you to look for food places (specially between December - March).
2. For some people, a quiet place might seem a little lonely or boring.
For Chano and I, we like to save money and enjoy the place so we prefer to visit during the low season. I made this vlog to help other people who want to travel like us. In this trip, we spent more than our usual budget for an accommodation (200 euros) in one of the best suites! It is already considered cheap compared to their high season price. KALEIDOSCOPE LUXURY CAVE HOUSES exceeded our expectations. If we are given a chance to visit Santorini, we will not think twice to stay in their place again. SUPER HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
In order to not spend too much money on accommodations, we chose cheaper ones for the rest of our trips but still astounding. Watch out for my next vlogs to give you more tips on how we explored other cities of Santorini on our own. We hate group tours unless we don't have a choice anymore. They are expensive, they give you less time to enjoy the places, and everything is rush. We will share our 11-day DIY trip in Greece.
