Santorini Volcano Hot Springs in Greece - PRIVATE TOUR - MUST WATCH!
A Trip to Santorini's Hot Springs In Greece - PRIVATE TOUR
The waters of the Aegean Sea are amazingly clear and blue.
We sail towards the volcano, enjoying Santorini’s gorgeous coastline.
The boat passes between the 2 isles of Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni.
The Hot Springs gush near the coast of these 2 isles. The color of the water becomes greener and its temperature warmer, averaging 98 degrees Farenheit
Vagelis, our captain, sets anchor, and takes us in a small inflatable boat to one of the bays, for a swim in the sulfurous springs of the volcano.
The rocks around are red and copper – yellow.
The hot springs have beneficial effects against rheumatisms, arthritis and other diseases
Our lovely greek companions Laura and Thodoris teach us how to remove the mud from the bottom of the sea with our feet, and to cover our bodies with it.
The sulfurous mud is dark green and it gets yellow as it dries.
When we planned the visit to the Hot Springs, we didn’t know about the mud, we were expecting only the warm waters. So it was an unexpected and funny spa experience.
Here goes a hint: It was easy to apply the mud, but is was not so easy to take it out.
We had to rub ourselves a lot.
After our spa treatment, we clean up and go back to the boat for another round of swimming.
The water is a little colder than the hot springs, but still warm enough for us to swim and play
We were like children, jumping multiple times into the water.
Jumping in the Mediterranean Sea was a dream come true experience: we could not come to Greece and not jump into these famous waters.
We didn’t want to leave the water, but it was time to go back onboard to head to our next stop.
In the way back we stop for the Grand Finale, Santorini’s spectacular Sunset
Next evening, our greek friends invite us to have a delicious lobster spaghetti in the world renown Amoudi Bay. That’s the famous greek Hospitality!

SANTORINI, GREECE - VOLCANO TOUR
I visited Santorini in the summer of 2014. This tour was around $49 euros (can't remember exact amount). IT WAS HOT AS HELL! The climb up the volcano was quite difficult for some folks because of the heat.
The bus picked me up from the hotel to the Port of Fira. From there we sailed to the island of Nea Kameni where the volcano of Santorini is.
Next stop was Palia Kameni where we swam from the boat to the Hot Springs.
Next we headed to Thirasia and had lunch. You could swim there too.
The last stop was Oia (optional - you're on your own if you get off) or you could stay on the boat and head back to the Port.
There were tons of people at the volcano that day. You could easily get confused with the tour groups. Make sure to stick with your group. Do you need to go with a tour group? Probably not. There are boats leaving the port that can transport you there for a lower cost and of course your time is not limited as with a tour group.

Santorini | The Volcano and the Caldera
visit
A major attraction of Santorini, of course, is that the whole world knows it's one big active -- if dormant -- volcano. It looks the part as you approach the island -- massive layered cliffs of ash and lava that look as if some almighty giant had cut them with a knife.
The volcano centre is a small islet of uniformly black lava called Nea Kammeni, slap in the middle of the bay and visible from all the eastern communities. It started as a bit of rock in classical times, expanding to its present size as recently as 1926. The scientists tell us that billions of cubic metres of boiling magma are gathering up just below, though there'll be plenty of warning of the volcano blows again.
You can take a boat across to Nea Kammeni and trudge up the craters for a fee of two euros. But you're not supposed to take away any pumice or lava. You won't see any steam coming out of the holes, but you can feel the thrill of standing right where an entire civilization was eradicated by the fireball under your feet, 3,600 years ago.
That can make anyone's holiday.

IMAX Greece: Volcanic eruption Santorini [HD]
Clip from the IMAX documentary Greece: Secrets of the past (from MacGillivray Freeman).
The eruption at Santorini (Greece) is considered to be one of the largest in history, and certainly the most massive volcanic explosion in the last 10,000 years.
Pyroclastic flows, one of the most destructive of all volcanic processes, shattered the island of Santorini in 1646 BC.
Pyroclastic flows are terrifying avalanches of gas, rock and lava that can attain temperatures above 1,000 degrees and move at over 100 miles per hour, following the topography of the land. The flows essentially knock down, carry away, shatter or burn down any object they encounter, leaving nothing but destruction in their wake.
The boom was heard as far away as Sweden. Tsunamis rocked the ocean afterwards and the surrounding areas were dark for months.
With some 7 cubic miles of magma expelled, the volcano collapsed, leaving behind a massive crater, an unimaginably huge plume of ash and the resultant pyroclastic flows. A rush of hot, sticky mud and cataclysmic rock bombs were ejected out of the crater. Within about a week's time, some 70 meters of volcanic deposits had buried Akrotiri, perfectly preserving the town's frescoes, pots, pans and structures exactly as they were left behind.

Meet Santorini: The Volcanic Island
Nowhere else in the Mediterranean does history, legend and beauty join in such dramatic surroundings as on this one small island.
About 3,500 years ago, the eruption of this dramatic volcanic island, brought about the beginning of the end of the Minoan civilisation.
Sailing into the great sea-filled crater is one of the great experiences of the Aegean and makes the legend of Atlantis seem entirely plausible. The huge cliffs of banded pumice surrounding the Caldera are undeniably spectacular.
With its apocalyptic past and extraordinary landscapes, Santorini provides a unique and fascinating journey.

SANTORINI, Greece TRAVEL video. AMAZING Santorini in 3 MINUTES
As promised I upload short travel video and vlog from Santorini Greece. I have never been on this beautiful island before. I must admit that you should visit this island at least once in your life, HOWEVER, this is not the place for people who like to stay by the beach and do nothing. You have to walk a lot and explore the beautiful views from the western side of the island. Sunsets are amazing and walking through white streets of Thiva village is very atmospheric.
This video is about beautiful santorini, greek food and santorini things to do. Visit Santorini and continue explore amazing Greece.
Santorini, officially Thira and classic Greek Thera , is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece's mainland. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago, which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km2 and a 2011 census population of 15,550. The municipality of Santorini includes the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana. The total land area is 90.623 km2. Santorini is part of the Thira regional unit.
The island was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history: the Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption), which occurred about 3,600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of metres deep. It may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 110 km (68 mi) to the south, through a gigantic tsunami. Another popular theory holds that the Thera eruption is the source of the legend of Atlantis.
It is the most active volcanic centre in the South Aegean Volcanic Arc, though what remains today is chiefly a water-filled caldera. The volcanic arc is approximately 500 km long and 20 to 40 km wide. The region first became volcanically active around 3–4 million years ago, though volcanism on Thera began around 2 million years ago with the extrusion of dacitic lavas from vents around the Akrotiri.

Santorini Volcano, Greece
Santorini's volcanic activity during the past 2-500,000 years has been dominated by very large explosive eruptions at intervals of few tens of thousands of years. The most recent of this type occurred at around 1613 BC and is known as the so-called Minoan eruption. The late Bronze Age eruption, one of the biggest known volcanic explosions in younger time,- and one of the most studied, but still most mysterious eruptions of all time-, devastated not only Santorini, but had a deep impact on the whole of the Eastern Mediterranean. Perhaps it even had serious world-wide effects and changed history.
Still today, one can see its deposits, the characteristic, tens of meters thick layer of white pumice and ash that blankets most of the surface of the island group. The eruption changed the shape of the island itself dramatically: it is now believed that before the eruption, it had the shape of an almost complete ring that enclosed an earlier, shallower caldera. Then, large sections of island collapsed into the emptied magma chamber after the eruption, literally disappearing under the sea. The ring-island was breached to the W and NW, and the caldera was significantly widened and deepened.
The Minoan eruption devastated the rich, highly developed economic center, that Santorini was at that time. Since 1969, intense archaeological excavations have brought to light an important Cycladic/Minoan town which had been buried beneath the volcanic ash for almost 4000 years. Although it appears that people had time to evacuate their island in time before the eruption, carrying most of their goods with them, the findings from Akrotiri are impressive: especially, they include well-preserved and magnificent wall paintings, ceramics and other objects. Thanks to the work of numerous archaeologists, a new light was thrown on an important prehistoric period and culture. The spectacular discovery even induced continuing speculations that relate the volcanic destruction of Santorini to the legend of the sunken Atlantis.
