Gunjur Sand Dunes Mosque (Sacred), The Gambia
Kenye-kenye Jamango is a Mandinka term which literally translates as Sand Dune Mosque. This referred to a makeshift mosque located on the sand dunes overlooking Gunjur beach about 1km from the fishing centre.
Mosque has a fascinating history and is visited by Muslims and scholars on pilgrimage from all over The Gambia and West Africa. The mosque, associated grounds, buildings and rocks are all regarded as sacred because the site provided sojourn for the Kalifat'ul Tijanniyya Sheikh Umar Taal (Leader of the Tijaaniyya Sect in West Africa) during his Islamisation mission in West Africa.
Sheikh Umar’s pilgrimage to Mecca between 1828 and 1831 and other Islamic centres in the Middle East, made him famous. News of his greatness and erudition preceded him on his return trip to Mecca through Cairo, Bonnu, Sokoto and Mandina, before he reached Futa Jallon in 1840. Sheikh Umar fought paganism and challenged the political and social order of the old Muslim theocracies, replacing them with a new branch of Militant Islam. His Jihads, or “Holy Wars”, imposed his authority from Senegal to Nigeria and attracted thousands of disciples from all over West Africa, including Aku, or freed slaves of African origin, in Sierra Leone. His military campaigns did nothing to improve his relations with the European powers who were colonising the area at the time, and who saw the creation of a vast Islamic entity formed through territorial conquest as a threat. However, Sheikh Umar was very diplomatic whenever he met Europeans, informing them that a large peaceful Islamic state would only improve commerce. Sheikh Umar visited The Gambia during the latter part of his life when he had turned to peaceful Islamisation as a means of attracting more converts. He stayed in several places in The Gambia, including Banjul and Cape Point, before moving further south to Gunjur. Here, he stayed for longer than anywhere else in the county and prayed in the shade of trees and large boulders, thus making the site sacred.
People visit the Sand Dune Mosque to pray for life changing situations ranging from marital status to reversing the plight of barren women for childbearing.

TUJERENG NEMAKUTA MOSQUE COMMITTEE
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
ASSALAMU ALAIKUM we the above named mosque committee are here by soliciting funds to complete our unfinished mosque project.
TUJERENG NEMAKUTA is a village located in the west coast region of The Gambia West Africa, with an estimated figure of about 11,000 inhabitants. The mosque project started sometimes ago from the crumble budget of the village mosque committee where we spend about D60, 000.00 which is equivalent to $ 1,333. In addition the building process abruptly stopped due the sudden run out of budget.
Further more, since the mosque is a highly needed building our daily submission as Muslims we have a temporal locally build mosque out of corrugated sheets with sticks which is not idea in the rainy season and cannot even accommodate a larger number of people during prayers time Beside a clean water borehole project is highly need since the mosque location does not have a proper water source. Thus these conditions prompt us to seek an urgent support from any philanthropist or foundation that can help us build the mosque at the soonest possible time.
Move over, an estimated budget of D800, 000.00 ($ 17,777) is calculated to take the building to its omega. And all those that are willing to volunteer during working hours you are highly welcome.

IMAM FATTY PART 1
FRIDAY SERMON
Price of sheep soaring as Eid approaches
(19 Jul 2019) LEAD IN:
Just weeks before the celebration of Eid al-Adha, the price of sheep is soaring in the markets in Guinea.
Known as the Festival of Sacrifice, many families purchase sheep and goats around this time.
STORY-LINE:
The markets of Conakry are full of sheep and goats, ready to be purchased for the sacrificial festival of Eid al-Adha, also known in Guinea as Tabaski.
Prices vary, but one thing is for sure... the costs are going up.
As you know very soon is the Tabaski. We have prices for the poor people and we have prices for the rich men, everybody with his own price. All this is because of the transportation and the food we feed them, says one sheep seller, Alousine Barry.
The adverse economic situation in Guinea means purchasing power is low.
Yet market sellers say they have no choice but to keep on putting prices up, since wholesale prices are high as well as the costs of transport and food.
They also get heavily taxed for transporting sheep through the dams and face customs charges too.
However another seller, Mamadu Barry, says he still tries to keep them affordable for people:
''I'm here to help the general public who are in need of a sheep for the Tabaski. I always sell at a good price so that people cannot run away from me. We are selling the sheep for the general public, that is my objective, he says.
Sheep here can sell for well over two million Guinean Francs (216.68 US Dollars).
Bouba Summah is a businessman who managed to afford to buy a sheep early in the day:
This is the best time to buy a sheep. If you wait very close to the day of Tabaski a sheep like this will cost you two million, five hundred thousand Francs (300 US Dollars) so this is the best time, he explains.
The date of Eid al-Adha varies each year, but in 2019 will begin in the evening of 11 August and end four days later on 15 August.
Today some people are leaving the market unable to afford a sheep, unsure whether they'll find enough money before the festival begins.

I prevented him from food and desires, so accept my intercession for him.’ And the Qur’an will say, ‘I prevented him from sleep during the night, so accept my intercession for him.’ ....thus they will intercede.” [Source: Musnad Ahmad]

GAMBIA - A VISIT TO THE GUNJUR SAND MOSQUE
GUNJUR BEACH MOSQUE
Sand Dune Mosque
Kenye-kenye Jamango is a Mandinka term which literally translates as Sand Dune Mosque. This referred to a makeshift mosque located on the sand dunes overlooking Gunjur beach about 1km from the fishing centre, which is currently under development.
The importance of Sheikh Umar (1793-1864) in the propagation of Islam in the West African sub-region is well documented by his disciples, historians and writers. He is renowned as the man who most significantly earned himself the title Khalifat'ul Tijanniyya through his teachings and holy wars. His pilgrimage to Mecca (1828-1831) and other centres of Islam in the Middle East helped a great deal in accelerating his mission. During his return trip from Mecca he went through Cairo, Bornu, Sokoto, and Madina before reaching Futa Jallon towards the end of 1840. Throughout his journey news of his greatness and erudition preceded him. He was able to eclipse prestigious Marabouts particularly of the Qadiriyya sect which until then was the dominant brotherhood in West Africa.
