HANOI to SAPA on a Sleeper Bus (cubicle-type) via Fansipan Express - Vietnam
A raw video taken by a cellphone cam to show you how comfortable to travel from Hanoi to Sapa via a sleeper bus. We booked the ticket thru our hostel. We were expecting the 3-row sleeper bus open plan. We were picked up by taxi (free) from our hostel then dropped off to a highway where the bus is waiting, the guy on the bus whispered you were upgraded I don't know what it mean but when we got on the bus we were surprised, it was cubicle-type with lower and upper cubicle bed with curtain for privacy and of course the moving scenries on the full window. It even has a toilet, convenient for my exploding gallbladder :D
The trip took about 6 hours from Hanoi to Sapa with one stop, about one hour more to Sapa, for lunch. By the way, set lunch is 50K dong, huge meal of chicken, beef, veggies, soup and a mountain of rice ($2).
Sorry for the shaky cam, it's inside a moving bus and the footage is raw, don't have time to process.

Finally we were able to get a bus to Sapa from Lao Cai station late afternoon and this was our third day in Vietnam. The journey was beautiful and reminded me of the North East India.
We reached Sapa by early evening and after lot of negotiations got Bike taxis till our homestay
We spent the rest of the evening chilling at the very cosy and beautiful outdoors of the homestay looking into the Sapa valley rice paddies and nearby hills.

✏︎ As we decided to head for Sapa in the Northwestern region of Vietnam, we had to figure out how to get there. However it wasn't hard to pick the most intriguing solution, as we found out there are night trains from Hanoi to Lao Cai which is the train station closest to Sapa.
We booked a VIP cabin, which means we have a 2 berth cabin all to ourselves. You can also book a bed in a 4 berth cabin, but those were simply too small for comfort if you ask us.
The whole experience was great. Of course it's not easy to get a proper nights sleep, but it's a great way to save both money and time, as the train removes the need to accommodation elsewhere. If you are going to Sapa from Hanoi this is very much recommendable.

Sapa - Vietnam | Explore Sapa by Muong Hoa mountain rail route
=======================================
Sapa is a wonderful mountainous town located in Lao Cai Province, Vietnam. This area is famous for the fresh cool atmosphere, the mountains behind the clouds, the stunning landscapes and the beautiful villages. Sapa looming in clouds is a poetic beauty and picturesque sight-seeing. In recent years, Sapa has become a big tourism destination in Vietnam. Thousands flock of tourists and photographers choose Sapa as the perfect choice to their Sapa group tours annually, when they want to leave all the bustling streets and pressure of working behind to relax their mind.
Hence, with purpose of the development of Sapa’s tourism, Sun Group decided to build a mountain rail route which connects the center of Sa Pa Town and the existing cable station to Fansipan Peak. On March 31, Muong Hoa rail route was opened officially, which promises wonderful group tours in Sapa for visitors.
With 2km in length, Muong Hoa is one of the longest mountainous rail route in Vietnam. The maximum speed of this train is 10m per second. In one hour, the two-carriage train serve up to 2,000 guests. If you travel Sapa by car, you need to over risky mountainous roads and take at least 20 minutes. From now, when you choose Muong Hoa mountain rail route, not only your travel time will be shorten to 4 minutes but also you can enjoy stunning landscapes. Swiss company Garaventa are the designers as well as producers of this train. Each carriage is 20m long, 3m wide and 25 tones in weight, and it can carry 200 passengers at once.
o encourage visitors to visit north mountainous areas, especially to get more Sapa tours for family, from now to 31 December 2018, Sun World Fansipan Legend are running a special discount program. A round-trip ticket on the Muong Hoa train from MGallery Hotel in Sa Pa Town to the cable station to Fansipan Peak will be discounted by up to 75% to 50,000 VND for both adults and children. This is the biggest campaign which Sun Group runs since Muong Hoa mountain rail route was opened.

HORRIBLE SLEEPER BUS VIETNAM - Hanoi
After spending a week in Hanoi it was time to head north. We booked some cheap tickets on a sleeper bus and we had one hell of an experience! Yes, overall, it was a horrible experience. After this we tried hard to avoid any other sleeper buses. It could have been much worse, so we're grateful it wasn't. Have you had any crappy travel experiences??

[ Vietnamoz.com ] How to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Sapa Vietnam
Here you can see the cities where we stopped (south to north) and the distance between each city.
1. Hồ Chí Minh (4-5 hours to Mũi Né)
2. Cần Thơ (Mekon Delta)
3. Mũi Né (4-5 hours to Đà Lạt)
4. Đà Lạt (3-4 hours to Nha Trang + 11 – 12 hours to Hội An)
5. Nha Trang: you shouldn’t stop here – touristy, expensive and nothing special.
6. Hội An (30 min to Danang + 3 hours to Huế)
7. Huế (4-5 hours to Phong Nha-Ke Bang)
8. Phong Nha-Ke Bang (7,5 hours to Tam Cốc)
9. Tam Cốc (3,5 hours to Hải Phòng + 2 hours to Cat Ba town)
10. Cat Ba (4-5 hours to Ha Noi)
11. Ha Noi (5 hours to Sa Pa by bus/8 hours by train)
12. Sa Pa
Transport all around Vietnam
Open bus ticket
We bought our open bus ticket in Ho Chi Minh City at o. We were really satisfied with this company. Drivers were nice and reliable most of the times . You can choose how many stops you want to do. You need to reconfirm each bus ride by calling or visiting the counter. Of course it is also possible to book single bus tickets but this way you pay more. Unfortunately the open bus ticket doesn’t include all stops. You won’t be able to reach places like Phong Nha-Ke Bang, Tam Cốc or Cat Ba. So we booked the open bus ticket from Hồ Chí Minh to Huế. All the other stops we made (8. to 12.) we reached by single bus rides or train. We paid 684.000 VND for the open bus ticket (26,50 €/$ 30).
By motorbike
We met many travellers who either bought a motorbike in Ha Noi or in Ho Chi Minh. It is for sure very beautiful and a unique experience but we considered it as too dangerous. One amazing part of Vietnam is impossible to visit if you don’t have a motorbike: the route between Hội An and Huế (called the Hải Vân Pass). An other option is to travel with Easy Riders: you have your own motorbike rider. There is even enough space to transport your backpack and they organize launch as accommodation.
By train
Travel around by train is very nice. But take care – never buy tickets online. Just go to the train station and buy the ticket at the counter. The website seat61.com gives some helpful advice how to buy train tickets and how to read a Vietnamese train ticket.
In Vietnam there are many people who try to sell you tickets for a much higher price.

Indochina's highest peak - Fansipan Legend Cable Car - Sapa, Vietnam
With 2 Guinness World Records - the world's longest three-rope cable car and the biggest height gap between its departure and arrival points, the Fansipan Legend located in Sapa Vietnam offers a convenient no sweat access to the highest peak of Indochina in 15 minutes.
In the past, it takes climbers 2 days to climb up and reach the Roof of Indochina. Now, with a combination of rides - funicular trams and cable car, it's easy for everyone to get to the peak.
But is it really expensive?
You can buy the ticket at Sapa Station, Sun Plaza (Ga Cáp treo Fansipan Legend) Location:
Cost: 820,000 VND (about $35) can be bought as combination (one) ticket, which includes :
1. Funicular tram from Sapa Station at Sun Plaza.
2. Cable car ride.
3. Funicular tram ride to the peak. (with couple of stairs walk up to the peak, wooden platform).
4. Walk down the 600 steep stairs back to the cable car station - or buy another 70,000 VND separate funicular ticket, we opted to walk down, easier than going up.
5. Cable car ride back to the funicular station.
6. Funicular train back to Sun Plaza Sapa Station.
I think it's worth it considering we came all the way from Hanoi, and the convenience of reaching the top which affords a nice view of the Muong Hoa valley with its majestic rice terraces from the cable car. Although, the view at the peak is obscured by the heavy fog which might have been fantastic which according to many seldom happen. Still, it's a great experience while in Sapa.
TRANPORT from Hanoi to Sapa:
There are several buses (sleeper bus) from Hanoi, Fansipan Express has the fancy cubicle-type bed, very private, with curtains and personal amenities like USB ports, lighting, shelf for your bottled water and other stuff, blanket, pillow, soft bed. Sapa Express also offer sleeper buses, open-type, 3-aisle, double-deck beds. The bus depot is about 1 kilometer away to the city center, 20,000 - 30,000 VND taxi fare.
There are also the smaller VIP vans. And lastly, the trains that travel up to Lao Cai train station, another one hour from station to Sapa by bus.
Checkout 12go.asia for schedule or book with your hotel, not much difference in cost.
ACCOMMODATION in Sapa
