Sringeri Sharada Peetham is one of the four Advaita Vedanta monastery (matha) established by Adi Shankara around 800 AD in Sringeri (Karnataka), the others being Dwaraka (Gujarat), Govardhana (Odisha) and Jyotirmath (Uttarakhand).The Sringeri matha is on the banks of the Tunga River in Chikkamagalur district located in the Western Ghats, India.
The Sringeri Peetham is one of the major Hindu monastic institutions that has historically coordinated Smarta tradition and monastic activities through satellite institutions in South India, preserved Sanskrit literature and pursued Advaita studies. The Sringeri Peetham has been a library and a source of historic Sanskrit manuscripts. Along with other Hindu monasteries such as the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, the contemporary Sringeri matha has been active in preserving the Vedas, sponsoring students and recitals, Sanskrit scholarship, and celebrating annual Adishankaracharya jayanti.

Sri Sharadamba Temple (ಶೃಂಗೇರಿ ಶಾರದಾಂಬೆ) is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Saraswati in the holy town of Shringeri in Chickkamagaluru District, Karnataka, India.
The Sharadamba Temple at Shringeri (Shringa giri in Sanskrit) is an 8th-century temple, founded by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. It housed a sandalwood statue of Shardamba in a standing posture, which was installed by Adi Shankarachaya until the Vijayanagara rulers and Sri Vidyaranya (12th Jagadguru) installed a seated gold statue of Sri Shardamba in the 14th century.
Tradition has it that after the Acharya had dispersed all the non-Vedic creeds prevailing in the country, He was on the look-out for a convenient and holy place where he could establish an institution to spread the truths of Advaita Vedanta. When the Acharya came to Sringeri, he saw an unusual sight on the banks of the Tunga. A cobra was seen spreading out its hood over a frog in labour pains, to give it shadow from the scorching mid-day sun. Struck with the sanctity of the place, which could infuse love between natural adversaries, the Acharya chose this very location to establish His first Math.

The 800 years old ancient Mallikarjuna temple, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, is in Basaralu, a small town in the Mandya district, Karnataka state, India. Basaralu is close to Nagamangala and about 65 km from the culturally important city of Mysore. Basaralu temple was built by Harihara Dhannayaka around 1234 A.D. during the rule of the Hoysala Empire King Vira Narasimha II. Basaralu temple is protected as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India. The stone carved temple has intricate designs on the base and on the celings. The temple has typical star shaped platform a signature style of Hoysalas.

These are few of the lesser known places in Mandya. The temple is highly ornate example of Hoysala architecture.
Melukote is part of Mandya District which is famous for mandya tourism for its waterfalls , stone carved temples built by Hoysalas , Somanthapura, brindavan gardens near KRS Dam (reservoir ), tonnur kere, Shravanappa betta (Kanakagiri hills), arethipur, basadihalli etc. Mysore tourism along with mandya tourism is incomplete without exploring the places that Mandya has to offer. This is a historic place known for its great history. The Stone temple , mandapa are one of its kind with fine carvings.

Sringeri Sharadamba Temple & Vidyashankara Temple - Visit Adi Shankaracharya heritage in Karnataka

Sringeri, as we see it today, owes its history, heritage, and lineage to Adi Shankaracharya. The town today revolves around the Shardamba Temple and Sringeri Sharada Peetham set up by him in 8th CE, with Tunga River flowing between them.

Archaeologically, Vidyashankara is the most beautiful temple in Sringeri. A unique all stone temple built centuries ago. The inside of the temple has 12 pillars representing 12 zodiac signs. Exteriors have several beautifully carved stone sculptures of Hindu Gods & Goddesses.

Sharada Peetham Elephants, Tunga River, Feeding the fish in the river, the living heritage, are all the attractions of Sringeri.

Sringeri gets its name from Rishi Shringya, son of Rishi Vibhandaka. In fact, the full name is RishiShringra Giri, Giri meaning mountain. The etymology and the name tracing back to the days of the Rishis tells us that Sringeri has been inhabited since a very long time.

Sharada Devi is the principal presiding deity of Sringeri. It is believed that Adi Shankara brought Sharada Devi here from Kashmir, where he spent some time. The original Sharada Peeth of Kashmir is now in Pak occupied territory.

Inside the temple, Sharada Devi is seated on a Chakra or a wheel and holds a mala in her hand. The original idol of Sharada Devi was made in Sandalwood. Why Not! Sandalwood is found in abundance in the region. The current image in gold was installed in 14th CE by the Saint Vidyaranya. Vidyaranya was the 12th Shankaracharya of Sringeri Mutt who also played a role in establishing the Vijayanagara empire. The idol is adorned with so many clothes, jewels, and flowers that it is not easy to make out the finer details.

Archaeologically, Vidyashankara is the most beautiful temple in Sringeri. The moment we entered the Sharadamba Temple complex, it is Vidyashankara temple that caught our eye. The sculpted stone structure standing on a high platform in a unique semi-circular form is stunning, to say the least. We naturally gravitated towards this temple and stood in front of it admiring its unique shape.

We entered the temple and the first thing I did was counting the pillars inside the Mandapa. Yes, they were 12 in number though they were not all equal. The four pillars in the corners were larger than the rest. I had read about these 12 pillars representing 12 zodiac signs. As the sun moves from the zodiac to Zodiac, the first rays of the Sun fall on the pillar of the same zodiac. I could spot zodiac signs on some of the pillars but could not locate them on all the four pillars in the corners. The kind priest helped us find all of them despite huge crowds that he had to handle. You meet the Aries and Taurus Pillars as you enter the temple. Scorpio and Libra are closest to the deity.

Amruteshwara Temple Tarikere

Amruteshwara temple is in Amruthapura, Tarikere taluk, Chikkamagalur district, Karnataka, India. The temple was built in 1196 C.E. by Amruteshwara Dandanayaka, under Hoysala king Veera Ballala ||. Sringeri is a temple town situated in the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. It is a world-famous tourist destination that houses the Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, one of the four primary temples of Advaita Vedanta philosophy. The Sarada Peetham was established by Adi Shankaracharya and is considered one of the Shakti Sthalams of India.
The Vidyashankara temple was built in commemoration of the pontiff Vidyashankara, around 1357-58 C.E.. It was built by Vidyaranya, patron-saint of Harihara and Bukka, the brothers who founded the Vijayanagara empire.

According to legend, AdiShankaracharya is said to have selected the site as the place to stay and teach his disciples, because when he was walking by the Tungariver, he saw a cobra with a raised hood, providing shelter from the hot sun, to a frog about to spawn. Impressed with the place where natural enemies had gone beyond their instincts, he stayed here for twelve years. AdiShankaracharya also established mathas in the northern (at Jyotirmath, near Badrinath), eastern (at Puri) and western (at Dwaraka) quarters of India.
