Sarah's Vineyard - Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
Nestled in the Cuyahoga National Park, Sarah's Vineyards makes for a nice stop while traveling over the river and through the woods to grandma's house. The winery is roughly three years old, producing some 100% pure Ohio grape varietal wines, along with some California blends. Some good tasting wines made from the Niagara grapes grown in Ohio near Lake Erie are on the menu. The wines complement the natural scenery and history of the Cuyahoga Valley. As luck would have it, the winery is also home to various art mediums both indoors and out, with many for sale. The outdoor garden should also not be missed, and there is ample outdoor seating in front by the garden or off the back patio deck where better views of the vines and the surrounding forest can be taken in with your wine tasting. Stop by Wednesday or Thursday nights and enjoy fire roasted pizzas on either patio or inside the spacious interior of the lovely barn-style winery.

Wine Country
With 103 wineries throughout the state of Ohio, many of the best grape-growing spots exist right along Lake Erie. In fact, Northeast Ohio boasts more wineries per square mile than in any other region in Ohio. The great lake’s shores are home to the Grand River Valley, a recognized American Viticultural Area (AVA), a designated wine grape-growing region that sets the perfect stage for producing cool climate varietals—Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cab Franc, in addition to some ice wines.
Just an hour drive east of Cleveland, Northeast Ohio’s vineyards attract visitors from near and far. From The Lodge at Geneva and Ferrante Winery & Ristorante in Ashtabula County, to Debonne Vineyards and Laurentia Vineyard in Lake County, our wineries offer an opportunity to experience unique, locally-produced wine up close and personal. The shores of Lake Erie present an endless wine trail of lodging, live music and unique events heralding the region—all poised for you to enjoy a glass of your favorite grape variety.

Testing Cold Hardiness
Each winter, Cornell Extension staff from the Finger Lakes, Lake Erie and Hudson Valley regions collect samples of grape buds to test their ability to withstand cold temperatures. Grape growers use this information to make decisions about their pruning strategy during the dormant season in order to retain enough fruitful buds to ensure an adequate crop the following growing season.
The bud hardiness monitoring project is a joint effort of the Lake Erie, Finger Lakes, Eastern NY Commercial Horticulture, and statewide viticulture extension programs. Funding is provided by the Lake Erie Regional Grape Program, Inc., the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, and the NYS Agricultural Experiment Station Director’s Endowment.

Cuyahoga River at flood stage. Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio . Dam behind Sheraton. DAMS ARE BENEFICIAL
This is the third flood in 10 days. The river is up a good five feet above normal. The dam here is one the Ohio EPA is planning on eliminating along with one about 500 yards up stream and the large Edison Dan about a mile down stream. My question is What's going to happen during floods to the people, businesses and property below these dams if they are removed? I guess my question is why doesn't the EPA value humans and property over an ideology? And then there are kayak and crooked clubs who VERY SELFISHLY think that we need to put every thing back into the pre white man era BUT they selfishly disregard the needs and security of Man Kind. HIPPIES, trust me .... there is NO ONE who loves the river MORE THAN ME!!! I have spent my ENTIRE LIFE around it!!! I use it 12 months a year and use it sometimes 7 days a week. If you spend much time on the river between Hiram and Edison Dam then you've seen me in my orange canoe with my dog up front. Proof that the velocity is changed by removing dams is the FACT that after the Kent Dam was modified and the Monroe Falls Dam was removed we had TWO MAJOR HUNDRED YEAR FLOODS... coincidence??? I figured out the BENEFIT of DAMS when I was four playing in my gravel driveway with a hose!!! Your telling me the EPA can't figure it out!!!! Do I have a dog in the fight??? PARTIALLY, I use the part of the river dammed above the boardwalk in Cuyahoga Falls for fishing and so do HUNDREDS of people every year!! The BIGGEST EPA LIE is that stagnant water CRAP!! Be hind the Kent dam and the Monroe Falls dam the water was as clean as ANY LAKE in the middle of summer!!!! Why were there still TONS OF FISH???? MORE THEN THAN THERE ARE NOW??? You should be fighting the ODNR, they are the ones stocking non-native fish that have decimated the natural fish in other Lake Erie rivers (steelhead). If you're gonna give he thumbs down then PLEASE COMMENT. I purposely allow ANY and ALL comments and ratings. I LOVE DEBATE!!!

Riding the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad through Peninsula, Ohio
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is a Class III railroad [1] operating diesel-electric and steam-powered[2] excursion trips through Peninsula, Ohio in the Cuyahoga Valley, primarily through the scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park.[3]

CVSR Brecksville Station, set against the scenic Route 82 bridge over the Cuyahoga River Valley, is one of several stations modeled after historic train stations within Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Based on a track bed and rails originally laid down around 1880, right-of-way ownership transitioned over the years from Valley Railway to Cleveland Terminal & Valley Railroad (CT&V), to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, to the Chessie System. Currently, the National Park Service own the rails and right-of-way within Cuyahoga Valley National Park. CVSR co-operates with Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway (WLE) on operation of the railroad track south of CUVA to Canton. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad operates their excursion trains in co-operation with both the NPS & WLE.[4][5]
The history of trains in the Cuyahoga Valley stretches back more than 100 years. In 1880, the Valley Railway began operations, transporting coal to Cleveland, Akron, and Canton from the Tuscarawas River Valley and providing passenger service along the way. After a decade of operation, the Valley Railway became part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In the 20th century, competition from automobiles, trucks, and buses caused the decline of both freight and passenger service. Interest in the line was renewed in 1972 as a scenic excursion route and the Cuyahoga Valley Preservation and Scenic Railway Association was born.
