MANDORE GARDENS (GOVT MUSEUM) OF JODHPUR, RAJASTHAN AS ON (12-02-2017)
MANDORE GARDENS (GOVT MUSEUM) OF JODHPUR, RAJASTHAN AS ON (12-02-2017),VIDEOGRAPHY AND EDITING BY Mr. JAYANTA KUMAR MANDAL(জয়ন্ত কুমার মন্ডল).
COORDINATES: 26.3535°N 73.0331°E
HISTORY
MANDORE IS AN ANCIENT TOWN, AND WAS THE SEAT OF THE PRATIHARAS OF MANDAVYAPURA, WHO RULED THE REGION IN THE 6TH CENTURY CE. THE RULERS OF THIS DYNASTY PROBABLY BECAME VASSALS OF THE IMPERIAL GURJARA-PRATIHARAS. AFTER THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE GURJARA-PRATIHARA EMPIRE, ONE BRANCH OF PRATIHARAS CONTINUED TO RULE AT MANDORE. IN 1395 CE, A PRINCESS OF THIS BRANCH MARRIED RAO CHUNDA OF RATHORE CLAN. RAO CHUNDA RECEIVED THE JUNAGARH FORT IN MANDORE IN DOWRY, AND MOVED HIS CAPITAL TO THE SITE. THE TOWN REMAINED THE RATHORE CAPITAL UNTIL 1459 CE, WHEN RAO JODHA SHIFTED HIS CAPITAL TO THE NEWLY FOUNDED CITY OF JODHPUR.
MANDORE WAS THE CAPITAL OF THE ERSTWHILE PRINCELY STATE OF MARWAR (JODHPUR STATE), BEFORE MOVING TO MEHRANGARH FORT IN JODHPUR.
MONUMENTS
THE HISTORIC TOWN BOASTS SEVERAL MONUMENTS. THE NOW RUINED MANDORE FORT, WITH ITS THICK WALLS AND SUBSTANTIAL SIZE, WAS BUILT IN SEVERAL STAGES AND WAS ONCE A FINE PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE. A HUGE, NOW RUINED TEMPLE IS A HIGHLIGHT OF THE FORT. THE OUTER WALL OF THE TEMPLE DEPICTS FINELY CARVED BOTANICAL DESIGNS, BIRDS, ANIMALS AND PLANETS.
THE 'MANDORE GARDENS', WITH ITS CHARMING COLLECTION OF TEMPLES AND MEMORIALS, AND ITS HIGH ROCK TERRACES, IS ANOTHER MAJOR ATTRACTION. THE GARDENS HOUSE THE CHHATRIS (CENOTAPHS) OF MANY RULERS OF JODHPUR STATE. PROMINENT AMONG THEM IS THE CHHATRI OF MAHARAJA AJIT SINGH, BUILT IN 1793.
RAVAN TEMPLE IS ANOTHER ATTRACTION AT MANDORE. IT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE NATIVE PLACE OF RAVAN'S WIFE MANDODARI. RAVAN IS TREATED AS SON IN LAW AMONG SOME LOCAL BRAHMINS. THE MANDORE GARDENS ALSO HOUSE A GOVERNMENT MUSEUM, A 'HALL OF HEROES' AND A HINDU TEMPLE TO 33 CRORE GODS.VARIOUS ARTEFACTS AND STATUES FOUND IN THE AREA ARE HOUSED AT THE MUSEUM. THE 'HALL OF HEROES' COMMEMORATES POPULAR FOLK HEROES OF THE REGION. IT CONTAINS 16 FIGURES CARVED OUT OF A SINGLE ROCK. NEXT DOOR IS A LARGER HALL CALLED THE TEMPLE OF 33 CRORE GODS WHICH HOUSES IMAGES OF VARIOUS HINDU DEITIES.

Umaid bhawan palace jodhpur history in hindi
Umaid Bhawan Palace, located in Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, is one of the world's largest private residences. A part of the palace is managed by Taj Hotels. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owner Gaj Singh. The palace has 347 rooms and is the principal residence of the former Jodhpur royal family. A part of the palace is a museum.
Ground for the foundations of the building was broken on 18 November 1929 by Maharaja Umaid Singh and the construction work was completed in 1943. The Palace was built to provide employment to thousands of people during the time of famine.[citation needed]
Recently, Umaid Bhawan Palace was awarded as the World's best hotel at the Traveller's Choice Award, which was organised by TripAdvisor.
History of building the Umaid Bhawan Palace is linked to a curse by a saint who had said that a period of drought will follow the good rule of the Rathore Dynasty. Thus, after the end of about 50-year reign of Pratap Singh, Jodhpur faced a severe drought and famine conditions in the 1920s for a period of three consecutive years. The farmers of the area faced with famine conditions sought the help of the then king Umaid Singh,[3] who was the 37th Rathore ruler of Marwar at Jodhpur,[4] to provide them with some employment so that they could survive the famine conditions. The king, in order to help the farmers, decided to build a lavish palace. He commissioned Henry Vaughan Lanchester as the architect to prepare the plans for the palace; Lanchester was a contemporary of Sir Edwin Lutyens who planned the buildings of the New Delhi government complex. Lanchester patterned the Umaid Palace on the lines of the New Delhi building complex by adopting the theme of domes and columns.[3] The palace was designed as a blend of western technology and Indian architectural features.[4]
The palace was built at a slow pace as its initial objective was to provide employment to the famine-stricken farmers in the area. The foundation stone was laid in 1929. About 2,000 to 3,000 people were employed in its construction.[5] Occupation of the palace by the Maharaja came after its completion in 1943, and close to the period of Indian Independence. There was some criticism for embarking on an expensive project but it had served the main purpose of helping the citizens of Jodhpur to face the famine situation.[3] The estimated cost of building the palace was Rs 11 million.[6] When it opened in 1943 it was considered as one of the largest royal residences in the world.[4]
Umaid Bhawan Palace as seen from Mehrangarh Fort
The site chosen for the palace was on a hill known as Chittar hill in the outer limits of Jodhpur, [7] after which the palace is also known,[8] where no water supply was available near by and hardly any vegetation grew as hill slopes were rocky. The building material required was not close by as sandstone quarries were at quite a distance. Since the Maharaja had the foresight to bring his project to fruition, he built a railway line to the quarry site to transport the building material. Donkeys were inducted to haul soil to the site. The sandstone transported by rail was dressed at site into large blocks with interlocking joints so that they could be laid without the use of mortar.[3]
The palace was built with dun-coloured (golden – yellow) sandstone with two wings. Makrana marble has also been used, and Burmese teak wood has been used for the interior wood work.[3][6] When completed the palace had 347 rooms, several courtyards, and a large banquet hall which could accommodate 300 people. The architectural style is considered as representing the then in vogue Beaux Arts style, also known as Indo-Deco style. However, for many years the palace did not fully function following tragic events in the royal family. Umaid Singh who stayed in the place for only four years died in 1947. Hanumant Singh who succeeded him also died at a young age; he had just won in the 1952 General Elections and was returning home after this win when his plane crashed and he died. Gaj Singh II who succeeded his father then decided in 1971 to convert a part of the palace in to a hotel.[

Also, checkout other attractions in Rajasthan.
Mehrangarh Fort
Beyond question, Mehrangarh Fort tops the list of ‘must visit’ places in Jodhpur. It is one among the largest Indian forts. This invincible fort stands magnificently 400 feet above the city. Rao Jodha constructed the fort in 1459 AD. Though the attempt to construct the fort was started in 1459, the fort had seen many centuries before it was completed. Hence, you could find that the style of architecture represents various periods. The grandeur in architecture is awe-inspiring. It offers stunning views of the city. The fort stands as a symbol of power.
Jaswant Thada
Jaswant Thada was built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, the Second in the year 1899. This is close to Mehrangarh Fort. The tranquility of the marble construction is enchanting. The carvings are intricate. Inside Jaswant Thada, you will find the portraits of the Rathore rulers. The grounds of Jaswant Thada consist of a stunning multilevel garden, intricately carved gazebos and a pond.

Balsamand Lake is an artificial lake that was constructed by Balak Rao Parihar in 1159 AD. The lush greenery around the lake has mango groves, papaya groves and groves of guava, plum and pomegranate. Balsamand Lake Palace was intended to serve as summer resort for the royal family of Jodhpur. The lawns and gardens with birds and peacocks finding their homes here, the place is exquisite. The palace reflects Rajputana style of architecture. The palace turned heritage hotel was built of red sandstone.
Kailana Lake
Kailana Lake is located on west of the city. This is yet another artificial lake, which was constructed in the year 1872 by Pratap Singh. This is one amongst the most frequented lakes in Rajasthan. It is a birdwatchers’ paradise. You could sail on a boat if you aim to add some breathtaking photographs to your collection. The view of sunset would be stunning.
Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park
The aim behind the formation of Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park in the year 2006 was to restore the rocky area near the fort. Once preliminary steps were taken to restore the land, more than 80 native plant species from the famous Thar Desert were grown. The 200 acres of park is located at the foot of the impregnable Mehrangarh Fort. The place reflects the hard work and dedication of the ecologists who spared no efforts to make the place green.
Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum
The construction of Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum was started in the year 1929 and it was completed in 1943. The palace is situated on the highest point in the city. पत्थर की चट्टान से बना है एक महाराजा का शिप हाउस...
Ship House of a King is made of rock cliff
Jodhpur Have you seen or heard the stone made of stone on the rocky rock. Surely you will not say yes. But in Jodhpur, the house was built in the shape of the ship for the residence of the Maharaja, cutting the stone cliff in the princely state. Which has been named the Ship House. According to Mahendra Singh of Mehrangarh Museum Trust, Sir Pratap Singh was probably the first person in the ruling class of the princely states. Those who had traveled abroad most of the time on both occasions of peace and war during that era. Then the foreign trips were done by ship of water and being influenced by the visits, Maharaja Sir Pratap had constructed the Ship House.
According to Guide Shakti Singh, Sir Pratap had constructed Ship House on a small hill near Nagauri Gate in 1886 AD. He had built the Ship House for his personal residence. Its map was created by JJ Overyon and the ship house was formed in the direction of the Chief Engineer Home of the state. Due to the size of the ship's water, this three-story artistic building is also called 'Ship House'. After construction, they were also living in Sir Pratap Ship House. After some time, one of his English friends advised that they should not be in it. Because the speed of wind in Jodhpur is often from west to east and this ship is in the east of the town's population. The polluted air of the entire city will come here only. Sir Pratap quit staying at the Ship House.
Jodhpur Broadcasting Station was inaugurated on 25 January 1949 at Ship House. Which lasted for some years. Here the famous sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Music Department and famous poet Ramji Itawe were in charge of the Urdu section. After independence, there were also offices of several government departments and some films were also shot.
According to the rules of the Archaeological Survey of India, the ship house falls under the category of protected monuments. The heritage building, which is more than a hundred years old, is considered a protected monument and 127 years have passed since Ship House. According to the Gazette of Government of India, according to the ancient monuments and archaeological sites and relics (Amendment and Law Validation) Act, 2010, as amended according to the ancient monuments and archaeological sites and relics Act 1958, the ancient monument and protected monument should come within a range of 100 meters For the purposes of construction, the area has been declared as' a forbidden area.

The palace was created by Maharajah Sur Singhji, as a summer pavilion. It is very finely carved with latticed windows that allow the soft, cool breeze to blow into the interiors of the palace. The embankments of the lake, in front of the palace, have domed structure that offers fabulous views of the lake encircled by hills. An artificial cascading waterfall, brings water down from the reservoir to the gardens. Mandor, is a part of Jodhpur but it enjoys the calmness by being far from the city crowd.
The rooms and suites, the entire ambience here makes one feel as if you are staying in a royal palace. One can even enjoy a walk through the trees, the rose beds, pools covered with lilies and the groves of mango, plum, banana, pomegranate and so on. One will also get to see the peacocks, blue bulls, jackals and hundreds of flying foxes (fruit bats) in the trees.

The Statue of Unity is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950) who was the first Home minister of independent India and the chief adherent of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent Indian Independence movement; highly respected for his leadership in uniting the 562 princely states of India to form the single Union of India without any armed conflict. It is located in the state of Gujarat, India. It is the world's tallest statue with a height of 182 metres (597 ft). It is located on a river island facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada in Kevadiya colony, 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast of the city of Vadodara.
HISTORY : Narendrabhai Modi first announced the project to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 7 October 2013 at a press conference to mark the beginning of his 10th year as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. At the time, the project was dubbed, Gujarat's tribute to the nation. A special purpose vehicle named the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET) was constituted by the Government of Gujarat for executing the project.
An outreach drive named the Statue of Unity Movement was started to support the construction of the statue. It helped collect the iron needed for the statue by asking farmers to donate their used farming instruments. By 2016, total 135 metric tonnes of scrap iron had been collected and about 109 tonnes of it was used to make the foundation of the statue after processing. A marathon entitled Run For Unity was held on 15 December 2013 in Surat and in Vadodara in support of the project.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel:
Vallabhbhai Patel (31 October 1875 – 15 December 1950), popularly known as Sardar Patel, was an Indian politician. He served as the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. He was an Indian barrister and statesman, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and a founding father of the Republic of India who played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation. In India and elsewhere, he was often called Sardar, meaning chief in Hindi, Urdu, and Persian. He acted as Home Minister during the political integration of India and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947.
Patel was raised in the countryside of state of Gujarat.[3] He was a successful lawyer. He subsequently organised peasants from Kheda, Borsad, and Bardoli in Gujarat in non-violent civil disobedience against the British Raj, becoming one of the most influential leaders in Gujarat. He was appointed as the 49th President of Indian National Congress, organising the party for elections in 1934 and 1937 while promoting the Quit India Movement.
As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organised relief efforts for refugees fleeing from Punjab and Delhi and worked to restore peace. He led the task of forging a united India, successfully integrating into the newly independent nation those British colonial provinces that had been allocated to India. Besides those provinces that had been under direct British rule, approximately 565 self-governing princely states had been released from British suzerainty by the Indian Independence Act of 1947. Threatening military force, Patel persuaded almost every princely state to accede to India. His commitment to national integration in the newly independent country was total and uncompromising, earning him the sobriquet Iron Man of India. He is also remembered as the patron saint of India's civil servants for having established the modern all-India services system. He is also called the Unifier of India. The Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue, was dedicated to him on 31 October 2018 which is approximately 182 metres in height.
