Did You Know: Guns & Gangs
As a Police Service, we arrest thousands of individuals each year. Some more frequently than others and some, for more violent offences than others. Under the Guns & Gangs portfolio, there are two programs that allow us to monitor these individuals in an effort to prevent them from re-offending - The Serious Habitual Offender Comprehensive Action Program and the Violent Offender Interdiction Detail, otherwise known as SHOCAP and VOID.

Shooting a Saskatoon Potato Gun
Watch as I learn about shooting a Saskatoon Potato Gun, with Al Tastad near Saskatoon SK. He actually made these himself. This was an awesome experience and I highly recommend it. Al & his wife Pattie hosted a house concert that I played at, and this was absolutely 100% necessary pre-concert activity to get things going on the right note.

Check out Saskatoon Gun Club, awesome place.
Get yourself an PAL (possession and acquisition licenses), a shotgun (or somebody with a shotgun) before going there.
Lots of fun there. And as you can see I still got lots to learn and practice :-).
The people there are great.
Thanks a lot to Kristian for providing the ride, shotgun, and showing in the back how to better shoot, that is much less unnecessary movement.

The Sergeant Sees It Through
Produced in 1954 by Omega Productions and sponsored by Canadian Industries Ltd., this documentary film features vintage footage of Saskatoon Police officers on the job, working with the citizens of Saskatoon over 60 years ago.
Summary:
A wave of street shootings by Saskatoon youths started Sergeant Hilmer Nordstrum of the Saskatoon Police on a campaign to find a place where boys could legitimately indulge in target-shooting. This documentary shows how, helped by public-spirited citizens, the Sergeant organized the Boy's Rifle Club. There, besides enjoying organized shooting practice, the boys learned leadership through club activities. After a rough start, the boys became filled with enthusiasm and found that the club's waiting list was kept filled with names of would-be members.
The Boys' Rifle Club existed until the 1980s and historical photos are now displayed in the Saskatoon Police Service front lobby.

Hells Angels and support clubs target of police in Saskatoon
NEWS — The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club’s chapter in Saskatoon, the largest city in Canada’s western province of Saskatchewan, is highlighted in a public information campaign produced by the Saskatoon Police Service. It focuses on the HAMC and its support clubs. The video includes references to the Heretics MC, the Fallen Saints, the Saints, Manica Crew, the Motor Demons MC and others. It features an interview with an unnamed member of the police force’s Saskatoon Integrated Intelligence Unit. The production is part of the Saskatoon police’s “Did You Know” series. “Although they often fly under the radar of the public eye, OMGs (outlaw motorcycle gangs) do exist and operate in Saskatoon. We took a drive with a member of the Saskatoon Integrated Intelligence Unit to learn about our local OMG scene and what’s being done to combat the crime they cause,” police said of the video.
