A Falklands Meadow: Wildflowers on West Falkland
The Falkland Islands may have no native tree species, but there is still an abundance of local plants to be found, if only you know where to look.
FITV joined Frin Ross, of Falklands Conservation, as she explored a coastal wildflower meadow that had been left ungrazed for many years, discovering the beautiful and sometimes rare species that can exist and thrive here.
If you would like to know more about native Falklands plants then head over to - If you're based in the Falklands and would like some help growing native species in your garden or farm, then get in touch with Frin at Falklands Conservation.

Saunders Island, Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)
Saunders Island has a beautiful sandy beach, where seabirds and penguins play. Insects crawl all over the sand. Kelp lies about. And the surf is high. Listen to the wind. This view is from the bow of Quark Expeditions' icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov.

Albatross on West Point Island - Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands hold 70 % (500,00 pairs) of the world population of Black-browed Albatross. Black-browed albatross are migratory, arriving in the Falkland Islands to breed in September and leaving their colonies by the end of April. They may be seen offshore throughout the year in Falkland waters.
They have a pure white head with a black line over and through the eye - ‘the black-brow’. The heavy hooked bill is yellow and pink. The huge wingspan is 210-250cm (7-8ft) with black upperwings and a broad black leading edge to the underwings. The legs and large webbed feet are a flesh-grey colour. These beautiful birds were filmed on West Point Island, which is situated off the north-west tip of West Falkland.
