MILW Road yard at Savanna, IL in the late 1980's Part 1
Lost (and Found) Video; we're in Savanna, IL in the late 1980's on South end the new Rt 84 bridge, probably at Portland Ave. The trestle structure over the MILW yard is being torn down and the rails are gone save for a couple tracks on the far North. Only ties remain and the work of removing those is in progress. The new bridge is a fill straight across most of the yard. I recall family trips over this location in the 60's and 70's with track upon track of cars.

SOO Line 29 Years Ago Savanna Illinois 1989 Part One (of two)
Selected scenes from a day videotaping in Savanna, Illinois. It is late winter 1989;
-On the SOO Line at the diamonds with Burlington Northern's C&I (or Aurora) Sub, we see a short EB freight (a local?) and follow it out to near Wacker, IL.
-The bridge shot includes the similar BN overpass in the distance. I did't think anything was coming along down there, but you never knew...
-Back at the diamonds, we catch an EB BN.
-to the far East end of the BN yard we're near Plum interlocking where the C&I and Barstow subs diverge. Several trains are seen here and a couple surprises.
-out to Sabula, IA (a suburb of Savanna lol) and hard on the Mississippi River, two SD60M's in the newer Candy Apple red bring a train up and over the swing bridge.
Nine minutes from a full day though I wish it had been sunny. Part Two has a few more sequences and is coming along shortly.

BNSF & KCS in the Rock River Valley: Oregon, IL to Byron, IL 8.29.2016
I was watching the Aurora Sub on ATCS when I woke up around 8:30, 9ish. There were absolutely 0 trains between Aurora (Milepost 30ish) and Savanna (Milepost 145ish). I FINALLY saw a signal for a westbound at Aurora around 11am. The only train on the line was the BNSF freight, I imagine is a BRCNTW. I went home after that, and was on my way back to Belvidere when I heard around 18:00 the CP was supposed to run a new generator across the old CGW line in Byron to the Exelon Generating Station, a rare move done less than once a year (I caught one back in 2012: Knowing this, I drove into Byron around 4 to see if by chance they had the load waiting, and they did not. As I'm driving away, I see the crossing gates drop behind me, and pull over as quick as possible to catch this beautiful KCS duo lead an oil train east on the CP Chicago Sub. Then I went home, eventually, as the move was delayed until the next afternoon.
BNSF 7239 West, Around the Curve at Woodlawn Road on 11-30-2011
A stack/intermodal train races along the BNSF Aurora sub between Lee and Steward, Illinois led by an ES44DC plus three additional engines.
I had been waiting for a few hours before catching a westbound around this curve. Letting the afternoon shadows lengthen as the sun dipped lower. I knew that the distant zoomed in view would be well lit then dramatically eclipsed by the approaching power. Worked out just about as I planned although the light was a bit weird due to the mid-level clouds moving in.

4449 Daylight Streamlined Steam Locomotive wheelspin leaving Savana IL 7-18-09.avi
I had to go train chasing July 18th 2009 to see the Daylight 4449 Steam Locomotive while it was close to home and caught up with it in Savanna Illinois.
It was a beautiful locomotive and passenger train made up of cars from several lines including GNW&B, Milwaukee Road, Arizona, St. Paul, Lake Pepin, New York Central, Southern Pacific Lines, and Missouri-Kansas-Texas.
It was converted over to an Oil Fired boiler so it didn't smoke very much until they leaned into the throttle to leave. They also gave it just a little too much throttle at the start and had a little wheel spin, but that just added to the show.
Just an awesome sight, that was well worth the trip to see.
People don't realize just how powerful these old steam locomotives were, moving that much tonage using just 2 cylinders connected directly to the drive wheels. Even with the wheel spin from steel on steel, it still didn't take long to get the train moving and up to speed.
CP Train 650 Loaded Ethanol Train at Rouses Point NY July 23, 2018
Loaded Unit Ethanol Train CP 650 bound for the Port of Albany entering the United States at Rouses Point NY on the Canadian Border about 2:13 pm on July 23, 2018. A light rain is falling.
It is passing the 1889 D&H Rouses Point Passenger Station, now a Museum, and the Amtrak Station Platform and crossing Pratt Street. The crossing protection still retains the old real mechanical bell.
The leader is the freshly rebuilt and repainted CP 8030, a AC4400CWM, rebuilt from CP 9550, a AC4400CW, the first class of the GE's purchased by CP in 1995 to replace the venerable SD40-2's.
The trailing locomotive is AC4400CW CP 8638 looking much worse for wear. The CP 8638, built in 2001, has the Canadian/American flag logo beside the cab.

Another video from the stuff I shot on VHS in the 80s. Shot at Sabula, Iowa on a windy and hot June day in 1983, I caught Extra 29 leaving Savanna and crossing the Mississippi.
WRRS Autoflag, S Main St. Galena, IL
This is one of the last lower quadrant WRRS autoflag signals still in active service. The teardrop bell no longer exists. It has been replaced by an electronic bell.
