Help Us To Protect Cambodia's Marine Life
We're Final Year Students who construct the artificial reef to create an enhanced fish habitat and increase fish population in Koh Seh Island, Cambodia. Koh Seh is a remote island and renowned for its richness of marine resources. Moreover, it has been slowly destroyed by illegal fishing activities, which affect negatively on marine ecosystems. We hope our project will provide the greater and sustainable habitat as well as increase fish population in Koh Seh Island.

Cambodia's Southern Coast: Kep
This sleepy seaside town about 4 hours southeast of Phnom Penh is perfect for relaxing weekend getaway. Check into a mountainside bungalow at Vanna Bungalows ($10-20 per night, fan/AC, 012-755-038) and breath in the fresh ocean air while swaying in a hammock on your porch. Got the munchies? Walk 1 km down to the Kep Crab Market for cheap fresh seafood and wonderful sunset views. $4-5 gets you a big plate full of fresh crab with Kampot pepper. Be sure to catch a boat over to Rabbit Island (Koh Tonsai) to wander around deserted white sand beaches, relax in crystal clear warm waters, and hike through tropical forests ($3 per person each way). For the more adventurous, spend a night on the island in one of the few bungalows on the beach. You'll likely be only one of a few and have a bit of paradise to yourself.

Located on the sleepy coast of Kep, Cambodia, you’ll find one of the greatest crab markets in the world. The blue swimmer crabs are kept in ocean baskets, and when you got to buy them, they will actually fetch a basket right out for the ocean for you, and you can rummage through the live crabs and choose whichever ones you please. This is one of the most amazing markets I’ve ever been to!
Cambodia Crab Trip - Phnom Penh → Kep, Cambodia, 146 km., 3 hours
Kep Crab Market - One of the best reasons to travel to Kep, Cambodia is to eat seafood, and they have an abundance of fresh seafood. Although I didn’t have time to stay the night in Kep, we decided to just take a day food trip to eat crab.
When you buy crab at the market, bargaining is expected, and the prices can fluctuate vastly. So keep this in mind when you’re buying your crab. On this day I paid 2 kg. crabs - $14 USD. One of the best things about buying crab here is that you can then turn around and cook your crabs right there at the market. Price to cook crabs - $1 USD. It’s an amazing experience of fresh crabs, boiled, and cooked right in the market.
They also have lots of other seafood. We bought 3 pretty decently sized fish, some rice, and a few bottles of sauce to complete our meal. 3 big fish, rice, sauce - $13 USD
You can then go to sit down at a drink vendor, and if you buy drinks, you can sit and eat your Cambodian seafood feast. Total price for drinks - 18,000 KHR ($4.34) *we had a lot of drinks, but I lost count.
If the seafood and crab at Kep crab market isn’t enough, they have an abundance of durian and fruit at the market as well (it also happened to be durian season). 2 durians, 2 kg. mangosteen - $10 USD. Kampot, located next to Kep, is famous throughout Cambodia for durian, and it was an amazing durian.
Best pepper in the world!
Next, we drove over to Sothy’s Pepper Farm, that’s famous for growing Kampot pepper, what is considered the best pepper in the world. We tasted and learned a lot about pepper and it was a lot of fun. Pepper tour is free, but you can buy pepper
Roundtrip taxi price for full day - $130 USD

English:
Koh Rong Samloem is a small tropical island featuring perfect white sand beaches fringed by palm and casaurina trees. Inland there is a rain forest supporting a diverse ecology ready to be explored and off shore the coral reefs are teeming with marine life.
The island is situated eighteen kilometres due west of Sihanoukville, the main beach resort of Cambodia, in the Gulf of Thailand and is a peaceful ‘getaway’ destination which is more tranquil and also much less developed than the larger island known as Koh Rong situated about a ten-minute boat ride to the north
Samloem attracts those searching for pristine white sand beaches with the convenience of less than an hour’s ferry journey to the mainland and high quality accommodation all set amongst stunning ecology including the amazing bio-luminescent plankton that makes the warm waters glow at night
Samloem’s clean beaches suffer substantially less of the noise and light pollution that has become a problem on both the mainland and Koh Rong island due to the extensive construction work taking place in 2019 as well as the all-night bars and party music that blasts out to attract the budget travelers dancing through the night
The highest quality accommodation is found on Sandy Bay with a number of small scale resorts typically with around fifteen bungalows and an on-site quality restaurant. These resorts have a high ratio of staff catering to their guests needs. The bay also has a number of medium-priced bungalows for those that do not need air conditioning or access to a swimming pool
The island is being actively protected by the Wonderful Wildlife of Samloem project to maintain the unspoiled natural beauty of the island, keep the pristine beaches clean and minimize the noise and light pollution that impacts the indigenous animal population
-Calm, clear water laps lazily on idyllic white sand beaches, and there’s not much else to do but kick back and enjoy the sun, sand and waves -
Please help share and promote our amazing island in order to protect our country, Our enviroment as the most beautiful beach in the world!

Diving Koh Rong Sanloem in Cambodia!
Diving Cambodia can be done off the islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem (aka Koh Rong Samloem). There is a lack of large marine mammals but the coral and smaller sea creatures keep the dives interesting. Here we dove the dive sites of Corner Bar, Backdoor, Lazy Beach and Military Base.
Scientists survey Cambodia's coral reefs for damage
Scientists are surveying Cambodia's ocean floor to assess the extent of overfishing and pollution problems threatening the marine environment.
Dragging fishing nets through coral reefs risks getting them snagged, so fishermen stay away. But while fish remain plentiful on the reefs, locals say fish numbers in adjacent areas are down.
The researchers' mission is to determine the health of the ocean, with the results of the survey due to be published in about six months.

The Problem with Plastic in Paradise | Cambodia | Will Wanders Travel Vlog
This is not a beautiful travel video. This is me showcasing the problem with plastic pollution in paradise. Ocean plastic is a really serious issue in Cambodia that I've experienced first hand. The plastic pollution in the ocean is appalling.
You will probably have heard or read about it in the news or on social media but this is a super transparent showcase of how bad the problem is. I filled a whole sack with plastic waste from the small beach I was staying at on Koh Rong. But more and more washes up every single day. What's more, Coconut beach is the best beach on Koh Rong - the others have an even bigger problem apparently.
Watch this video, just to get an idea of the scale of the problem. If a 200m stretch of sand can be as polluted as this, what is going on at all the other beaches in the world?
After filming this I met a Dive Master who was in her final year of studying marine biology. She said that the problem is even worse on the ocean floor. In many places she dives, you can't even see the sand on the seabed because it is covered in plastic.
We HAVE to change this....!

Scientists survey Cambodia's ocean floor for coral damage
The marine environment of southern Cambodia is threatened by overfishing and pollution. In an effort to assess the extent of the problems, a team of international marine scientists is surveying coral reefs in the area.
