SAVITRI TAMPLE PUSHKAR | सावित्री माता मंदिर | RAJESH FILMS PUSHKAR
The Savitri temple in Pushkar is located on the Ratnagiri hill which is a popular pilgrimage site for the Hindus. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Savitri. It is a very strenuous work to climb on the hilltop but it is believed that the harder you work the more 'Tapas' are gained. In this temple you will find the idols of both the wives of Lord Brahma named Savitri and Gayatri. But as per tradition Goddess Savitri is always worshipped first and then prayers to Goddess Gayatri are offered. The visitors can either trek to the temple gates or take a ride in the cable cars which take passengers to the temple. The ropeway ride is really full of fun from where you can have an awesome view of the Pushkar city. However, many devotees prefer to climb 200 stairs leading to the shrine which they consider an important part of their pilgrimage to the place.
History of the Attraction
There is an interesting story behind the rise of this temple which has a mythological connection. Once, Lord Brahma was performing a Yagna on the bank of the Pushkar Lake where the presence of Goddess Savitri was required. But as she was late in arriving and the holy moment was passing by, Brahma married another girl to complete this ritual. When the Goddess arrived she was upset to see someone else in her place and in her anger she cursed everyone present there. Later on, she went to the Ratnagiri hills to sacrifice for her deeds and changed into river. After this incident the temple was constructed in her dedication and still you will notice a small stream flowing beside the temple.
Getting There
If you are travelling by train then the Ajmer Railway Station is nearest to the temple and is connected to all the major cities of the country. You can also take a flight to the Jaipur airport and then hire a taxi or a bus to reach the Savitri Temple.
Things to Do in and around
On a visit to the Savitri temple do indulge to have an amazing view of both sunrise and sunset from the hilltop. The surrounding of the temple is so attractive that you can spend hours sitting here admiring the beauty of nature.

Savitri Mata Mandir Pushkar
Pushkar is surrounded on three sides by hills. One of the hill is known as Ratnagiri, the highest on the southwest which houses the Goddess Savitri, the estranged wife of Brahma. The savitri hill is around 750 feet elevated by near by surrounding. Pilgrimage to savitri hill is 1.5 Km. It is strenuous and hard.
When Brahma performed yajna at Pushkar, due to some reasons Savitri could not reach the site of yajna at right time. Then Brahma performed yajna accompanied by a local girl, Gayatri – who become second wife of Brahma. This annoyed the first wife Savitri and she went to the hilltop. Then the agreement was made Savitri will always be worshiped first and then Gayatri. Tradition still continues – first aarti is performed at Savitri temple and then at Gayatri temple. The idols of both Savitri and Gayatri are now installed at the savitri temple.

India-2010: Pushkar View from Savitri Mata Temple
Welcome to Life of Pang!
*These are some old videos but I wanted to share them via YouTube. I hope you will like watching them again.
From Jaipur, we took a local bus to Pushkar. The ride was about 4 hours. Pushkar is considered the “Holy City”; it’s the place every Hindu pilgrimage must go to in order to complete their pilgrimage. They do not eat meat or anything meat related along with any alcoholic beverages. I was hurting; being a ‘meat and potato’ type of gal. I survived but couldn’t wait to dig into a chicken or lamb dish.
This was THE place for shopping (someone who doesn’t want brand names or real jewelry stuff)! Our highlight was trekking up the mountain to Savitri mata temple for a beautiful sunrise. That was worth getting up at 5AM and trekking at 6AM. We were both exhausted after that climb. But what an Amazing View!
*************** TRIP SUMMARY *****************
All and in, it was a wonderful introduction to India. Our tour hit the major tourist locations. Next time, I definitely want to go to more remote locations; away from the busy city life.
If you really want to experience the local people and their life style, definitely go where most tourist would not. You will see a whole different side of the country and its people.

This morning I made the bed and wondered if my time in India might account for the lightness and contentment I feel lately. The question came with a strong sense of being onto something.
Rationally, it makes no sense. Fifteen days in a small corner of a vast and complex land, lacking language or historical perspective - how could this change anyone?
We plunked ourselves down in hotels, trains, tuk tuks, taxies, metro cars, markets, temples, eateries and monuments. We were stared at, touted to, smiled at, talked to, photographed, swept along and humored by the people. India let us in. A country where hustle is survival and survival is gas in the tank or tea in a glass allowed us for a couple of weeks to let go and simply be.
Be a drop in the ocean. Be a speck in the storm. Be a clueless westerner, humbled by ancient, inscrutably beautiful forms. Be welcomed. Be borne.
Here we hike to one of those welcoming places.
I shot the scenes with an iPhone, edited in Final Cut Pro X, created the soundtrack in GarageBand.
