निसर्गरम्य सावंतवाडीत आल्या आल्या समोर दिसणारा मोती तलाव आणि संध्याकाळच्या सुरम्य अशा वातावरणातच सावंतवाडी च खर वैभव दडलय. संध्याकाळ च्या वेळी कधी मोती तलावाच्या कट्यावर न बसलेला सावंतवाडीकर तुम्हाला शोधूनही सापडणार नाही.
तलावात पूर्वी कधी मोती सापडले होते म्हणून त्या तलावास मोती तलाव असे नाव पडले. चारही बाजूने सह्याद्रीच्या पर्वत रांगानी वेढलेले सावंतवाडी शहर आणि शहराच्या मध्यभागी मोती तलाव. सध्या तलावात बोटिंगची सुविधा उपलब्ध आहे. तलावात कारंजे सुध्दा बसविण्यात आलेले आहेत. तसेच संपूर्ण तलावाच्या कडेला विद्युत रोषणाई करण्यात आलेली आहे.
सावंतवाडी राजवाडा सिंधुदुर्गातील एक महत्वाचे पर्यटन स्थळ ओळखले जाते. राजवाड्याची बांधणी खेम सावंत भोसले संस्थानांनी १७५५-१८०३ या काळात केली. सावंतवाडी शहरातील हे सुंदर पर्यटन स्थळ असून मुंबई,पुणे, तसेच कोल्हापूर येथून महामार्गाने येथे पोहोचता येते
मोती तलाव ही सावंतवाडी शहराची ओळख म्हणता येईल. शहर पर्यटनाच्या दृष्टीने विकसित होत आहे. येथे शिल्पग्राम, जगन्नाथराव भोसले उद्यान आदी पर्यटन प्रकल्प सुरू झाले आहेत. मोती तलावातही जलक्रीडा केंद्र कार्यान्वित आहे. बोटींग, गति बोटींग, स्कूटर बोटींग सुविधा उपलब्ध आहेत.
The Royal Palace of Sawantwadi (also known as the Sawantwadi Palace) is one of the major tourist attractions of the town. Built by Khem Sawant Bhonsle, the ruler of this region during 1755-1803. Entry gate (Lester gate) was built in 1895.The bricked brown walls of the palace have a very ethnic touch to it. Wonderfully carved rooms, war weapons and verdant environs inspire you to flip through your history books once again. Another specialty of the palace is the wonderful arts and crafts that are developed here. The walls of the palace are neatly plastered with old photographs, which make your sauntering around a very knowledgeable experience. The Queen of the royal Sawant Bhonsle family still lives in the palace and humbly shares interesting anecdotes with visitors on selected days.
The palace still beholds one with its grandeur and demands a visit especially to overwhelm you with its amazing collection of traditional lacquer ware goods. These include breathtaking dexterity exuded by the set of furniture, chess and board games, little dolls etc. The Chitkaris, who were skilled artistes proficient in artful painting, wooden and clay artifacts and jewelry were patronized and groomed by the Sawantwadi Royal family and the effects of these grateful artisans is visible on very part of the Palace. These paintings with convoluted archetype portray the majestic lifestyle and god fearing nature of the generations belonging to the 6th-7th century.
This old Rajwada is now place for exhibition of handicrafts items, photographs and old antique items. Moti Talav is located opposite to Rajwada with a panoramic background of Narendra Hills and can take ride on peddle boat for leisure. Market for wooden toys is with walking distance from lake and Rajwada.

Sawantwadi is a taluka in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, India. Sawantwadi was formerly the capital of the Sawantwadi State ruled by the Sawant Bhonsle royal clan of the Marathas. The name Sawantwadi came into usage because of the surname of the state's ruling family of Khem-Sawants. Sawant-Bhonsale family were the rulers of Sawantwadi. They also participated in 1857 National Revolt.
Built in 1755-1803, the Sawantwadi palace the pride of the village. Situated atop Narendra Hills the palace belongs to the then state rulers, Khem Sawant, after whom the village was named as well. This old palace was constructed by Khemsavant on the ground near the hills. The palace is currently the residence of the royal family of the present Queen mother H. H. Satwashiladevi. The Queen has taken the initiative to popularize the local art of Ganjifa. The palace is known for organizing workshops to the train the new generations about the art of woodwork, painting and later work. It is a major attraction for both locals and foreign tourists.

Tasty Safar team along with Chef Archana Arte visits the famous Moti Talav in Sawantwadi.
If Sawantwadi is beauty then Moti Talav can be called its majestic beauty spot. The province had decided to create two palaces for the emperor and thus started the work of excavation which resulted in creation of this beautiful lake. The workers were paid or presented with Moti (Pearl) for the wonderful job done by them. So that's how the lake came to be known as Moti Talav.
